1864 (Oct 21) Entire letter to New York franked 8a carmine pair each cancelled octagonal "B/172", red London Paid (Nov 26) and "5 / N. YORK BR. PKT" (Dec 15) datestamps with red "1/11", reverse with cachet of Boustead & Co. Two light vertical file folds (one through left stamp), still an attractive cover to the USA.
1869 2c Manuscript surcharge on 1½c on ½a, used with Penang duplex, tiny pinhole at top, pulled perf at left, rounded corner perf at lower right, still a good example of this rare stamp, accompanied by a Philatelic Society London Certificate no. 61, dated August 1894, signed by E.D Bacon, M.P Castle and Edward B. Evans stating "the M.S Surcharge is probably genuine, but that it is quite impossible to guarantee a surcharge of this nature". The earliest Philatelic Society Certificate we have seen (and possibly the earliest surviving certificate?) from the first year of the expert committee, signed by three of the most eminent of all philatelists, nevertheless showing some caution in wording their certificate for what is clearly a genuine example of this rare stamp. S.G. 10, £6,500. Photo on Page 144.
1867-72 2c Yellow brown, 8c orange-yellow and 12c ultramarine blocks of four, and 6c dull lilac block of six, all mint, 6c with creasing to upper row of three, 8c with thin to upper left stamp and tone mark to lower left stamp, 12c with a few upper perfs split and strengthened with a hinge and light crease to upper left stamp, good appearance and uncommon multiples. S.G. 11a, 13, 14, 15a, £3,560. (18).
1892 1c on 4c Brown, mint marginal pair with current number "8", the left stamp with variety broken oval, minor ink marks at upper edge probably from the surcharging ink, otherwise fine; and 1c on 6c watermark inverted, unused no gum, two surprisingly uncommon varieties on this surcharge issue. S.G. 89b, 90w, £600. (2).
Manchester. 1905 (Dec. 18) Cover posted from Manchester to Leeds with QV 2d postcard cut-out tied by Manchester c.d.s, arrival backstamp, the stamp then tied by a superb strike of the violet oval "MANCHESTER / ADVANCE POSTED / CHRISTMAS 1905", presumably cancelled to order, nevertheless a scarce cancel and very unusual. Photo on Page 18.
1906-07 4c on 16c Surcharge on Labuan, variety "Straits Settlements" overprints in both red and black, mint and used, the mint stamps with paper adhering to reverse, used stamp with a few short perfs at left and thin at right, nevertheless a scarce pair, just 150 stamps possible with this variety. S.G. 145a, £1,650. (2). Photo on Page 160.
1906-07 4c on 18c Surcharge on Labuan, mint upper right corner block of fifteen, central stamp on the upper row with variety no stop after "Cents", minor toning and paper adhering to reverse of the three right stamps, the variety fine. With a photocopy of an R.P.S Certificate (1988). S.G. 146a, £425+.
1907 (May 22) Cover from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur bearing 4c surcharge on Labuan 18c, the overprint 13½mm high (the usual overprint setting being 21mm), the stamp ringed and disallowed with the Singapore c.d.s and triangular framed "T" to the left, charged 6c postage due, arrival backstamp. A rare stamp and cover, this narrow setting surcharge (possibly a postally used essay?) not recorded by Gibbons, the cover sent by F.A.S McCulland (then Resident in Brunei, who acquired the Brunei 1c black overprint error sheet, using many on covers to himself), central fold and piece torn from upper edge but very unusual. Another example of this narrow surcharge, used on a 1907 cover from Labuan, is recorded in an accompanying 1920 article by Major R. Lockhart. Ex Dr. F.E. Wood. Photo on Page 150.
1935 Silver Jubilee, 12c Lithographic publicity proof in black on glazed card, 50x32mm. The Crown Agents had forty copies of this 12c lithographically printed by Waterlow & Sons (the original die proofs being recess printed) for sending to newspapers and magazines in order to illustrate the stamp and publicise the issue; these were accompanied by a request to return the proof after use, but a few were evidently never returned. Fine and rare. Photo included on Back Cover.

Also a third photographic essay for an alternative "ERI VIII" corner ornament also dated "2.7.36" on reverse. A unique group, from De La Rue archives. (3). Photo on Pages 164 & 220.

Two rare unrecorded booklets, incomplete, otherwise very reasonable condition. (2). Photo on Page 166.
Seaview Hotel. 1915 Piece franked 1c with a fine Seaview Hotel c.d.s; and 1916 picture postcard from Saigon to Singapore, redirected with an overstruck but quite reasonable strike of the Seaview Hotel c.d.s, also a cancel on a single 6c stamp. One of the rarest of all Singapore cancellations. (3). Photo on Page 220.
