A Japanese Namiki Yukari Royal Vermilion Urushi fountain pen, in vermilion with gold fittings, the tapering cap engraved R114 to the top, having ball-end clip engraved with pentagonal logo and 'NAMIKI', and narrow gold band, the nib engraved with outline of Mount Fuji, logo, and 'Namiki 18K-750 ', further hallmarked Ste PP-F and with date stamp a606 to either edge, length 14.9cm (capped), weight 45.5g, with velvet lined wooden box, certificate of authenticity, paperwork and outer card boxAppears never to have been inked or used.No apparent cracks, splits or scratches.The black marks in the image are from the camera lens - not on the pen.Nib is good.Threads are sharp.
A PAIR OF AUSTRIAN EBONISED HALL CHAIRS, JACOB & JOSEF KOHN LATE 19TH OR EARLY 20TH CENTURY Branded and applied paper labels to the underside and rails 91cm high Jacob Kohn (1791-1866) together with his son Josef Kohn (1814-1884) founded the enterprise in 1849. Kohn would later rise to become one of the leading furniture makers in Austria-Hungary, becoming one of the leading competitors of Gebrüder Thonet. Kohn worked together with artists of the Wiener Werkstätte and Josef Hoffmann in the design of many pieces. Condition Report: There are scratches, marks, knocks, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use. There are losses, observations and restorations including: one of the 'branded stamps' appears to be an ink stamp; overall the ebonised finish is cracked, rubbed and aged, with various areas including the crest, edges and feet that reveal the underlying pale brown beech wood, the back of one of the chairs in particular has a horizontal line of rubbing; some splits to the seats, probably sectional construction joints; the front legs with some metal right angle braces that could be of a later date; there is small evidence of worm; shadows to the underside of the feet from previous metal bosses; the brackets to the front legs possibly later fixed, suggested by the different screw heads.
