1937 Progressive Die Proof in black on glazed card, with uncleared corner and central value tablets and surround, slightly larger than stamp size, affixed to thick card endorsed and dated "G/Trengganu 271" and "15.III.37", further endorsed "Die Proof Duty Blank" and "appd subject to outline of stamp being connected and verification of vernacular, 17/3", 89x89mm. 1937-41 Covers (12), picture postcards (2) and a front all bearing 1937-40 issue stamps, with covers from Kota Bharu to Singapore franked 5c, or to G.B franked at the 8c surface rate (7) or 55c air rate (2), air mail O.A.S covers franked 25c to India or A.I.F Forces Abroad (faults), two postcards from Tumpat to G.B franked 4c, and a front from Kuala Pergau bearing eight 4c stamps, various stamp combinations, ten censored, a few faults. (15).
1923-28 Picture postcards with stamps cancelled at Porto Amelia, one card to Austria franked 1c, 1½c, 20c on the picture side and 2c, 7½c on the reverse, the other cards with a single stamp or two stamps placed on the picture side, including a real Photo card of Zebras bearing the 1E Zebra stamp, these four card all addressed to Europe but probably cancelled to order. (5).
1841-43 Cover and entires (2) with 1d reds tied by black Maltese Crosses, 1841 items from Plympton to Place House, Fowey with 1d plate 9 (four margins) or St. Agnes to Hoyle with "No. 1" and blue Truro datestamp bearing 1d plate 11 (four large to enormous margins, a superb stamp), also 1843 entire from Penzance to Hayle. S.G. £725+. (3).
1922 Malaya-Borneo Exhibition, second setting, 21c, 25c and 50c set of three mint, 21c and 50c used, 25c small "Y" variety mint and used, mint 21c corner pair, 25c and 50c corner blocks of four all containing the small "Y" variety, the used 25c and 50c stamps with faults, the mint corner multiples toned with one 50c stamp thinned. S.G. 49/51, £1,300. (17).
Novelty Shaped Postcards. 1910-22 Cards containing fold-out views, with a stamp applied directly to the card, most sent at the ½d book-post rate, including cards in the shape of a train, car, teddy bear, golliwog, fish, shell, charabanc, horse drawn coach, bathing hut, sailing boat, bathing tent, swan, aeroplane, seaside scenes, lifeboat man, young lady, soldier, clock, post box, donkey, Welsh maid, etc. (31).
1860 Front to London via Marseille franked 1857-59 imperf 4d dull rose (cut to shape) + 5d (three margins) paying the 9d rate, well tied by barred cancels, red London Paid arrival c.d.s (Feb. 28), file folds well away from the stamps. An attractive item, the 4d exceptionally rare used on cover, very few fronts or entires recorded. (S.G. 4, £4,500 as a stamp). Photo on Page 92.
Postal Stationery. 1889-1927 Postcards (6) and envelopes (9), including used 1880 issue 1½d postcards (3), 1901 issue 2½d envelopes (3, both sizes, one with a stamp removed) and 1926 1d KGV envelope, some philatelic. Also 1887 France 1c postcard to the Virgin Islands Postmaster with Tortola arrival c.d.s. (16).
1919 (Apr-Oct.) Covers (2), pieces (10) and a stamp, with July 30 commercial cover from Alor Star to London bearing straits 1c + Kedah 3c, Sep. 19 cover from Alor Star to Penang bearing Straits 1c block of four, pieces with Straits + Kedah stamps (8, three with oval Post Office Padang Serai datestamp), etc. (13).
1886-1903 Specimen overprint stamps affixed with part own gum to two pages from the Royal Swedish General Post Office U.P.U Specimen collection, comprising 1886-87 2½d, 4d and 1/- on a printed stamp album page and 1903 KEVII ½d - 5/- set of ten affixed to a plain page with manuscript country name and date. Two unique archival pages. S.G. 27/40s, £475 as stamps. (13).
1861-81 Chalon Head issues, mint and used collection on pages with no watermark 1d mint and used (4), 6d used, various later watermarks, perfs and shades, 1864 1d with unusual violet "SPECIMEN" handstamp (16 x 2½mm san serif lettering with stop), 1863 6d rose unused, 1879 Small Star perf 15 1d pale green unused, 1875 1/- with "SPECIMEN" overprint type GR1 across two stamps (left stamp with preprinting fold), 1881 Large Star 2½d with "PENCF" or no stop varieties used, 1881 2½d Broad Star used (2), 4d mint, also 1881 ½d mint marginal block of four with marginal watermark inverted, imperf plate proof without value in black, etc. (75). Postcards/Air Letters. 1951-68 Postcards including 1951 4c postcard (dot in "Y" variety) and reply card unused; 4c postcard and reply card with added 2c stamp unused and postcard used from Arau; 2c + red 2c postage paid postcard unused and used; Federation of Malaya cards used in Perlis (3); and air letters (4, two with 25c stamp and red 5c postage paid, all used). 1911-22 Covers, postcards and ephemera, including 1911 Aerial Post card with triangular "SCOTCH / 6" handstamp (faults), 1912 signed picture postcard of C. Grahame White, 1919 "Stamp Collecting" Aerial Souvenir Mulready type card flown from Paris to London, 1918 postcard of the U.S Navy Seaplane NC1 being picked up by U.S.S "Tarbell" after its first Atlantic flight, 1919 postcard signed by the first civilian to fly to Paris, WW1 propaganda leaflet "By Balloon", 1920 covers flown from Paris or Danzig to London, 1922 Paris to London flight ticket, 1919 souvenir log book for a flight on a Farman biplane signed by the pilot Gaubert, etc. (16).
Nova Scotia. c.1865 Piece bearing 1860-65 2c pair (right stamp crossed by heavy vertical fold) and a diagonally bisected 2c to pay a 5c rate, cancelled by two strikes of "A92" Cunard mailboat numeral. The Robson Lowe North America Encyclopaedia (page 383) illustrates a virtually identical 2c bisect (+ pair) piece with "A92" mailboat cancels, very rare. Photo on Page 86.
1873 (Dec.) Mourning cover to Charles Hadfield in London bearing 1868 1/- (single frame line) just tied by "A13" cancel, red London Paid arrival c.d.s alongside, backstamped at Tortola. Two small tears to upper edge and flap torn, otherwise fine and a very scarce stamp on cover, ex McCann. Photo on Page 250.
1915 (Jan. 4) Cover bearing G.R.I 8d on 80pf, second setting (G.R.I 5mm from value) cancelled violet oval "RABAUL / NEW BRITAIN" datestamp (first day of use of this cancel), addressed to "Pvte Harry Lynch, Rabaul" and redirected to "KAEW, A COY". The envelope toned at left, not affecting the stamp or cancel, an uncommon stamp on cover. S.G. 26, £600 as a stamp. Photo on Page 202.
