Schroder (Johann) Pharmacopoeia Schrodero-Hoffmanniana illustrata et aucta, half-title, title in red and black and with large engraved printer's device, 6 engraved plates, engraved illustrations, library ink stamp to title, stained and foxed, lower margins repaired at start, contemporary calf, richly gilt spine in compartments and with red morocco label, upper joints starting, but holding firm, corners worn, rubbed, folio, Geneva, Samuel de Tournes, 1687.
Chivalric epic poetry.- Alamanni (Luigi) Gyrone Il Cortese, collation: a8 a-y8 z4, double column, italic type, title and woodcut printer's device within ornate segmented woodcut architectural border, large criblé initial, errata f. at end, armorial ink stamp to title, some small areas of marginal water-staining, small marginal repairs to s6-u1, a few small stains, contemporary limp vellum, labels removed from spine, some light staining, small 4to (203 x 147mm.), Paris, Regnault & Claude Chaudière, 1548.⁂ A very good copy of this chivalric epic, adapted from the French medieval romance of Giron le Courtois. Alamanni was favoured by François I after fleeing to France following the discovery his leadership in an anti-Medici plot. The work is dedicated to Henri II.
Oliver Cromwell.- Anonymous English artist (circa 1649) The Royall Oake of Brittayne, satire depicting Cromwell and parliamentarians over-seeing the destruction of the 'Royall Oake', with the branches of the great tree containing books representing the Magna Carta, the Bible, and the Royal Coat of Arms, originally the frontispiece to Clement Walker's 'Anarchie Anglicana, or, The History of Independency, the Second Part', etching and engraving, on laid paper without watermark, off-setting from another impression on verso, sheet 170 x 230 mm. (6 3/4 x 9 in), faint central vertical fold with some splitting and support verso, minor loss to upper left corner, some small nicks and tears, unframed, 1649.Provenance:Denstone College Library (stamp verso)Literature:BM Satires 737cf. Hypertrichosis.- Gaywood (Richard, active 1650-1680) Portrait of Barbara van Beck, three-quarter length, with one hand on an organ, engraving, on laid paper without watermark, trimmed lacking lettered title below, otherwise a good impression, sheet 190 x 150 mm. (7 1/2 x 5 7/8 in), one small nick upper left, unframed, [circa 1656].Provenance:Denstone College Library (stamp verso)⁂ Born in Augsburg, Germany, in 1629, van Beck achieved international renown for her hair growth, and travelled Europe appearing in shows. She travelled to London in 1655, and in 1660 she travelled to appear in a show at Beauvais, where Gaywood's 1658 variant engraved portrait was used as the advertisement to the exhibition. The Wellcome collection hold another copy of the present early engraved portrait (no. 1926i), and the British Museum hold a copy of the later state from 1658 (see acc. no. 1851,0308.45).

A Victorian Aesthetic ebonised framed armchair after a design by E W Godwin by Gillow & Co. circa 1875, the upholstered scroll back over a Japanese lattice work style panel and swept arms, the seat with serpentine front rail, raised on five slender turned and ringed supports united by turned and ringed stretchers, the two rear legs stamped "Gillow & Co.", 56 cm wide x 72 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Upholstery, in all likelihood, not original, though in sound condition. Ebonising throughout with wear to the extremities, particularly i.e. edges, especially to the arms. Of the five legs, two have serious breaking and repairs, one with a metal straight bracket with three screws - see image. Another mended with dowel. Both split right through. Gillow & Co stamp to one leg. Wear to the feet - again see images. Several dents, knocks and scratches throughout conducive with age and use
18TH CENTURY ITALIAN SCHOOL "The Holy Family with attendants, a figure in the background holding a sprig of lilies, a further sprig spilt upon the floor", oil on copper, unsigned, bears later stamp and inscription verso "BY697 - Lot 108 18 6 82", 27 cm x 21 cm, housed in an early carved giltwood and gesso frame with dragon scale and guilloche carved decoration CONDITION REPORTS Has areas of flaking throughout especially evident on the top edge and to Mary's arm and sleeve. There is dirt and paint marks all over, areas of surface scratching. There is an area of flaking which is black but doesn't appear to show any touching up under UV in line with Jesus' foot underneath the blue of Mary's skirt. Crackalure and crazing throughout. Wear and tear conducive with age and use. The frame has heavy worm, flaking to the gilding, cracks showing throughout, especially in the joins - see images for more details
A cast iron industrial time-recording timepiece Blick Time Recorders Limited, London, early 20th century The single train going barrel movement with platform lever escapement driving secondary mechanism incorporating four carousels with reverse raised letters for the month, date of the month, hours and minutes positioned against an aperture lined with an inked ribbon to the hinged case top panel, the front with 3.25 inch circular silvered Arabic numeral dial inscribed BLICK, TIME RECORDERS, LIMITED, 174, GRAY S INN ROAD, LONDON, W.C. 1 to centre, with blued steel hands and behind fixed bevel-glazed bezel, the rectangular case with armature fitted with plunger for the printing stamp and brass paper positioning slider to the hinged top panel, the front inscribed BLICK UNIVERSAL beneath the dial, on canted skirt base, 17.5cm (11.75ins) high; with a black japanned thermograph, Negretti and Zambra, London, early 20th century, with inked pointer recording onto a rotating clockwork driven paper-scale lined drum to interior and armature enclosing coiled bimetallic element to the exterior of the rctangulast glazed front case surmounted by a chrome plated carrying handle and with trade plate inscribed NEGRETTI & ZAMBRA…, LONDON, 26cm (10.25ins) wide.
