HULL SILVER - A Victorian silver Aesthetic Movement beaker, probably by Barney Barnett of Hull, Birmingham 1881, of tapering form, engraved with bamboo and birds, later monogram and date, weight 3 oz, height 9 cm. The makers mark of B.B (untraced) and the stamp HULL suggest that this was made in Hull and in the 1891 Hull Trades Directory Barney Barnett is listed as trading as a Jeweller and Goldsmiths at 62/64 Carr Street. Barney Barnett was a second generation immigrant, whose family originally came from Poland and settled in Hull. He is listed in the London assay office.
