Scarce Oldenburg Dragoon Regiment Nr 19 Enlisted Ranks Pickelhaube, untouched as found example of an enlisted ranks helmet for the Oldenburg Dragoon Regiment Nr19 (Oldenburgisches Dragoner-Regiment). The helmet has its original white metal dragoon pattern helmet plate with Oldenburg coat of arms to the centre, correct pattern cross base withb domed rivets and short pattern spike. Other ranks Reichs and Oldenburg state cockades with brass scaled chinstraps. Interior of the helmet retains the original leather liner system. Ink stamp is visible but not clear on the underside of the rear peak. The leather shell has crazed and slight shrinkage. All the fittings have a lovely untouched patina with the original cockades showing wear to the paint finish.
Battlefield Pick-Up Prussian Enlisted Mans Pickelhaube with an Original Numbered Field Cover, a highly interesting helmet, which could be termed as a battlefield relic being an all leather pickelhaube of upper medium size with its original field cover. The shell is slightly distorted with much crazing, all of the fittings are totally original to the helmet in brass, the back strap and circular spike base have oxidised to a green colour, the Prussian front plate still retaining some brass finish with its original chinstrap, correct national and Prussian State cockades, front peak trim good. To the interior the 9 tongued liner all intact with faint traces of the original drawstring remaining. Faint date to the inner rear peak of ‘1900’. The helmet is complete with its original enlisted ranks cover with green numbers ‘11’ to the front which have been attacked by moth. Slight damage to both sides of the cover. Remains of a maker’s mark and a stamp ‘56’ to the interior of the cover. We believe that the original brass spike was blown off due to battlefield damage, a field grey spike has been fitted inside the cloth spike cover for display purposes only. Ex Michael Baldwin Collection
Bavarian M-15 Enlisted Mans Pickelhaube, leather bodied helmet with field grey other ranks helmet plate to the centre. Grey metal front trim, rear spine, other ranks circular spike base with domed rivets and removable other ranks pattern spike. Helmet is complete with original other ranks pattern state and reichs cockades. Original other ranks leather chinstrap. Other ranks pattern leather liner to the interior with ink size stamp 55 ½ . Generally a good untouched example
Prussian Steel Ersatz Pickelhaube Regimentally Marked to Infantry Regiment Nr 13 (1.Westfalisches), this untouched example still retains much of the original field grey paint finish to the exterior of the shell. Helmet has chemically darkened other ranks Prussian helmet plate to the centre which has been interestingly attached to the helmet shell using a screw and a flat head pin fitting (one or both possibly replaced at some point in the early part of its life). Helmet has a M-15 style spike but the spike shows no signs of being moved, much of the field grey paint finish remains to the base but the spike has a layer of surface rust. Interior of the helmet is also with the field grey paint finish. Helmet retains the original leather liner, however this is well worn and has come away in places from its felt band. The liner has remains of an ink regimental stamp “I R 13”. Interestingly in Michael Baldwin’s book “Feldzug 1915” on page 21, he shows a infantry soldier in regiment Nr 13 wearing one of these steel helmets in 1915, obviously this regiment was issued these at the time. The helmet shell in this example is taller than the standard shallower type associated with these steel helmet which would indicate possibly manufacture by a different maker.
WW1 German M-1910 Other Ranks Feldmutze / Kratzchen Train Battalion, near mint condition example of standard field cap as issued to Train battalions, field grey body with blue piping to the crown and blue central band. Original other ranks Reichs and Prussian state cockades. White cloth lining to the interior. Black ink stamps to the interior “B.A.XI.” and feint remains of another stamp “J.X A.B”. This cap was part of a hoard of Train Battalion feldmutze which was discovered in Belgium some years back, all had the same style linings and ink stampings.
Rare WW1 German 4.Hannoversches (Hanoverian) Infanterie-Regiment Nr 164 Enlisted Mans Pickelhaube, fine untouched leather bodied helmet with brass other ranks Prussian eagle helmet plate having the additional “WATERLOO” battle honour scroll. Helmet with brass front trim, rear spine, circular spike base with domed rivets and other ranks pattern spike. Helmet is complete with original other ranks pattern cockades. Interior of the helmet has its original leather liner. Rear peak has ink regimental stampings for “J.R. 164” and 1899 stamp, further stampings “3.B 1915” and “IC. C II”. Original owner name label to the interior behind the helmet plate “WALLNER 10.Komp Inf. Regt.164”. Good patina to the exterior fittings of the helmet.
Imperial German Air Service Pilots M-1913 Crash Helmet, fine untouched example with field grey paint finish to the exterior. Brown leather peak, neck flap and side ear flaps. Interior retains the original leather liner system. Ink size stamp 60 and aviation ink stamp (details not clear). Some cracking and loss to the paint on the exterior and leather is dry in places. Overall a good example of a scarce helmet.
