An Indian Dhal of circular convex form with four repousse brass lions mask bosses, the back with two arm loops, a Nepalese Ram Da'o Sacrificial Sword, Blade Length 22", an Indonesian Kris with garuda hilt, Blade Length 14", Two Native Knives with bone and horn hilts, Blade Length 11", and a Sword with bone hilt, Blade Length 21", in leather covered wooden scabbard. One of Nelson's Swords, sold together with a signed Affidavit stating the the sword had once been in the possession of the Latham family (sword makers since the early 19th century). The sword has carried a label on which was written 'Horation Nelson, HMS Foudroyant' and by tradition was refered to as "Nelson's Sword". It had been sent by Lord Nelson for repair and was never collected. The framed affidavit is dated 1937 and signed by a Mr APR Willis who had acquired the sword from John W. Latham; great grandson of the sword cutler concerned. The sword itself is a fine Georgian Naval Officers Sword Circa 1790. The straight blade engraved with foliage and crowned G.R. on each side, the gilt hilt with cushion pommel having a three barred knuckle guard in the shape of a lantern. The reeded ivory grip having engraved central band with fouled anchor design. A similar sword is portrayed on a wax effigy by Catherine Andras in Westminster Abbey (circa 1805). The leather scabbard with gilt metal mounts (one loose).

A 19th Century Sudanese Kaskara, 85cm blade, characteristic hilt with flattened spherical pommel and leather covered crossguard, wood grip, contained in its tooled leather scabbard, bearing label “Touareg Sword 1885...”, together with a native dagger with 18.5cm shaped blade, carved wood hilt contained in its leather scabbard bearing label on hilt “Bissao 1885”. A Bissao sidearm, 59cm slightly curved and shaped blade with clipped back point, carved wood hilt bearing label “Bissao 1885”, contained in its fur covered wood scabbard, together with a Panga, contained in its hide scabbard and complete with belt, and one further African or Eastern sword with no scabbard. A Fijian Ula, 40cm over all, segmented head (some splits), plain wood haft incised with geometric designs at the grip, together with a Kris with 26cm wavy watered blade, carved wood hilt in the form of a God, contained in its wood scabbard carved with grotesque masks, and a halberd with 30cm flattened diamond section terminal and 30cm blade pierced with holes and a heart. A Russian presentation Shasqua, hallmarked 1910-1917, 80cm double fullered curved blade, traditional shasqua form hilt decorated with scrolling foliage and filigree in an embossed silver niello finish, the pommel applied with the Royal Cypher of Tsar Alexander II, contained in its pig skin covered wood scabbard with four silver niello mounts decorated ensuite. Some wear to the pigskin. Presented to Captain George Napier Tomlin HMS Liverpool Commanding Allied Squadron in support of the White Army during the Russian Civil War. Known to have been in Touapse and Novorossisk during November 1918, and sold with a carved wood presentation plaque commemorating 1914-1918 war from the people of Touapse 27 November 1918 (see lot 5).
