BRUNN. Retains virtually all of its original gilding externally, the blade with reasonable blue and gilt though with areas of losses and rusting.
A RARE EAST INDIA COMPANY 1803 PATTERN INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD, 76cm sharply curved double fullered blued and gilt blade decorated with foliate sprays, stands of arms, Royal Arms, crowned GR cypher and WARRANTED, regulation gilt brass hilt of characteristic 1803 form though with the HEIC crest as opposed to a crowned GR cypher, lion's head pommel, wire bound ribbed ivory grip, contained in its copper gilt mounted leather scabbard, complete with buff leather, silk and bullion knot. Grip with chip and leather restored.
AN UNUSUAL 1821 PATTERN LIGHT CAVALRY OFFICER'S SWORD TO THE 16TH LIGHT DRAGOONS, 88.75cm sharply curved fullered blade from an earlier 1788 Pattern sword, engraved with stands of arms and 16th Lihgt Dragoons, (misspelt) to one side and The 16th Or Q's Lt D on the other, regulation three-bar steel hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its engraved steel mounted leather wrapped wooden scabbard, the former stamped with the letters S.A to the middle mount and the latter leather work embossed with scrolls.

Scabbard leather restored. Joseph John Wakehurst Peyton (1819-1844) 2nd Life Guards: Coronet and Sub-Lieutenant (by purchase) 28th April 1836, Lieutenant by Purchase 8th June 1838, most likely left the regiment after his marriage to Marianne Gilberta on the 2nd of March 1839.
A 1796 PATTERN INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD, 80cm curved blade etched with scrolling foliage, crowned GR cypher, Royal Arms, classical figures, an eye and a large stand of arms containing the legend IN HOC SIGN VIN.... or Under this sign you shall conquer, generally rubbed, regulation steel stirrup hilt, ribbed horn grip, contained in a brass mounted black leather scabbard. There appear to be traces of a family crest lower down the blade but this is very rubbed, what can be discerned appears to be brick work, possibly the base of a tower. Combining this information with the motto it points to either the family of Stanhope or Turney.
