AN RA OFFICERS SWORD etc. A Royal Artillery officers three bar hilt sword, complete with brown leather field scabbard and outer carrycase. The blade and hilt have at some time been re-plated, the guard with brown leather swordknot affixed. A second extremely rusty officers 1897 pattern GV period sword, complete with brown leather scabbard. (2)
A KREIGSMARINE OFFICERS DAGGER. A German naval officers dagger, complete with swordknot and hangers. Marked E & F Horster Solingen, in an oval form with fouled anchor decoration to the blade. Some pitting evident to the 9.7/8" blade, possibly caused by salt water. The scabbard of brass with lightning bolt decoration, the hangers of blue material with lions head fittings, the clips of a plated finish. See Illustration
A W W 11 PERIOD KATANA . A smith made Shin Gunto period Katana, signed USHU YAMAGATA NO JU FUJITA AKIYOSHI KORE (WU) TSUKURU. A smith of this name was working in Usu in the Dewa Province in Japan. In Shin Gunto mounts with brown and blue (field) swordknot, complete with its bare steel saya. The 26" blade is retained by a locking button, in the scabbard.
AN AXE & NATIVE KNIVES. An axe on a thin shaft from the Yemen region of Sanaa, 21.3/4" in length. A Ceylonese made knife with carved horn hilt and wooden scabbard. An interesting Jambiya dagger with a horn hilt and 6.3/4" blade, in a brown leather wrapped scabbard. A N African style dagger with X shaped carved hilt and spearpoint 8" blade in a brown leather scabbard. (4)
TWO NATIVE SHORTSWORDS. Both made from captured or shortened European style sword blades of the 19thC. The first in the middle eastern style with 17.3/4" blade in a steel wrapped scabbard . The second in an open back scabbard, again in the middle-eastern style with a double-fullered 16.3/"4" blade. The wooden scabbard open to one side with blade retaining strips, a wooden pommel with metal disc decoration.
A WILKINSON SWORDSTICK WITH SILVER MOUNTS. A Swordstick marked Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, with silver hallmarked collar and pommel. Both W & Co makers mark and each are dated 1904. An attractive 26" blade with various designs and in very good order. Contained in a smooth cane hilt and scabbard, with brass ferrule.
A PRESENTATION CAVALRY SWORD C1825. A George 1V presentation cavalry sword, to Sjt Major John Alexander RHA, by Prosser. Pipeback blade of 35" in very clean and crisp condition, with GR 1V cypher and a mounted Cavalryman decoration. The officers who are named in the lettering of presentation script and John Alexander, were all present at the Battle of Waterloo. Complete with steel five bar hilt and steel scabbard. Profser Manufacturer to the King at the forte. This Sword was presented to Serjeant Major John Alexander Royal Horse Artillery, by the officers of his troop. Lt Col Sir John May KCB-KCH- Mjr Dyneley-Lieutenants W C Anderson & Burke Cuppage. For his indefatigable exertions in the execution of his duty.
AN 1805 FLANK OFFICERS SWORD. An 1805 pattern Flank Officers sword with the scabbard throat, bearing Prosser of Charing Cross London markings. The 30" curved blade has light decoration at the forte of foiliage and trophies etc. The hilt with Lions Head pommel and GR cypher in the knuckle guard, also a grenade. A pipe-back partially gilt decorated blade, with crests and AR cypher of 33" length. The hilt of gilt over three bar, one with crest inset and lions head pommel. See Illustration
AN IMPERIAL SAXON INFANTRY OFFICERS GUARD SWORD. A Saxon Infantry Guard officers sword, complete with its steel scabbard. Pipe-back spearpoint blade of 32.3/4" length, gilt crest decoration with Eisenhauer inset. Saxon crest and FR cypher with crown over R mark on the gilt stirrup hilt guard. Lions head pommel and gold bullion swordknot present. See Illustration
A XV11 LANCERS OFFICERS SWORD. A well made mid 19thC sword with maker or cutlers mark as J Irvine Master Tailor 17th Lancers. Steel three-bar hilt with clean 35" blade, decorated with Battle Honours Alma-Inkerman- Balaklava and Sevastopol. Skull and crossbones with Or Glory below, crown over VR cypher and XV11 Lancers below amid foiliage panels. Brown leather scabbard with sword frog present, the steel guard has light rust evident inside. See Illustration
A SCOTTISH YEOMANRY MAMELUKE. A William 1V Stirlingshire. Yeomanry Cavalry officers sword by Prosser of Charing Crofs,London. Sword Maker to the King. A 1796 pattern variant blade of 30" length in crisp condition, highly decorated with thistles and William 1V under a crown. Steel quillion and ivory grips, with Mameluke pattern steel scabbard with two ring mounts fitted. By verbal provenance originally carried by an Officer in the Stirlingshire Yeomanry Cavalry during the Radical Disturbances of April 1820. Commanded by Sir Thomas Bradford whose sword sold in the last May Sale, here in Lawrences. See Illustration
A HORSEHEAD POMMEL IRREGULAR CAVALRY SWORD. Possibly Indian Cavalry and made for an officer in perhaps Skinners or Hodgsons Horse, etc. The brass pommel is complimented in the running horses engraved on the quillions/langets. The scabbard has lions and other beasts amid the decoration, the hilt of chequered finish ebony. The blade of Tulwar form has a single cutting edge and a length of 25". An attractive sword embellished by the mounts and its blackened steel scabbard. See Illustration
A MADRAS HORSE ARTILLERY PRESENTATION SWORD. A Prosser of London marked Madras Horse Artillery Officers 1821 pattern sword, with the owners initials on the blade. Steel three bar hilt with fishskin grip and wire present. The pipe-back blade of 31.1/4" with the East India Company crest and three cannons on a shield below. Madras Horse Artillery below with Prosser Maker London and the initials ATC in floral script. Complete with its steel scabbard, the fighting blade in very clean condition. A PRESENTATION 1822 PATTERN HEAVY CAVALRY SWORD. A Victorian Heavy Cavalry Officers sword, with very clean 36.3/4" blade complete with its steel scabbard. VR under a crown above oak leaves, with scrolls on both sides of the blade. On the A side, Presented to John Hill Bombay Engineers by his friend John Forres Bombay Cavalry 24th November 1848. On the B side Mundee Ava Decbr 21st 1848. O God the Lord The Strength of my Salvation. Thou Hast covered my head in the Day of Battle. Psalm CXL 7th Verse. John Hill became an Ensign on the 11th June 1834. Lieutenant 16th August 1843. Captain 13th June 1849. Major 2nd August 1854. Lt Colonel 4th December 1857. Colonel 6th March 1858. He took part in the actions at Mandi Awa (Mundee Ava) which was commanded by Major General Whish and also operations against the enemy at Sidi-lal-ki-bed on the 27th December 1848. He was a Field Engineer with the Multan Field Force, during the Second Sikh War 1848-49. Mandi Awa was a fortified mound, which British Forces captured with the surrounding suburbs. During the storming an artillery shell exploded showering a nine pounder with shrapnel. Lt Younghusband was killed and Lt Hill (Field Engineer) wounded Lt John Forbes then a Captain served in Sind & Afghanistan 1841-42. (Ghuznee & Kabul Medal) Later in the Persian Campaign, where he was severely wounded at the Battle of Kooshab. He led the famous Charge of the 3rd Light Cavalry against the Persian Infantry, who had formed a square. (Medal & Clasp CB) Again during the Indian Mutiny Campaign with the Central Field Force. (Medal & Clasp) He retired as a General in 1886. See Illustration
A GERMAN FIRE SERVICE DAGGER & SCABBARD etc. A very clean German Fire Service Dagger with forward and reverse quillions, black chequered grips. Bearing the mark Original, Eickhorn Solingen, together with the squirrel holding a sword mark. Exceptionally 9.7/8" blade with three-quarter fullers. Complete with a black metal scabbard and leather frog, having a red and silver bullion swordknot attached.
A GT WAR GERMAN ERSATZ BAYONET etc A Gt War period German Ersatz bayonet numbered 710, complete with matching numbers steel scabbard. Of all steel construction with plain grips having a cleaning hole and button fixing. 12. 1/4" blade with three-quarter fullers, with faint makers or acceptance mark evident. Also a French 1874 pattern bayonet, in poor condition and lacking a scabbard. (2)
A ROYAL ENGINEERS OFFICERS SWORD & SCABBARD. A Victorian officers Royal Engineers sword and steel scabbard, numbered 32601 by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London. VR cypher in the plated steel hilt, with initials R G E on the 32" blade. Also the Royal Engineers device and Arms, with a slight loss at the point of the blade. C1894. Two possibilities are in the Army List around that period, a Balloon Section and an Indian Engineers Major.
A late 19th/early 20th century folding Bowie knife by Joseph Rogers & Sons, Sheffield:, the 7 3/4 inch single edged blade with clipped back point stamped as per title and also marked 'Cutlers to Their Majesties', over a double barthil and two piece chequered ebony grips with silver plated release button, together in original brown leather scabbard with frog.
A WWI German S84/98 bayonet by Gottlieb Hammesfahr:, the single edge fullered blade stamped as per title to one side of ricasso with horse motif and Bayard proof marks to the other, crown and '17' stamped to spine of blade, two piece wooden grips, together in a steel scabbard with brown leather frog.
A Dutch klewang by Hembrug:, the slightly curved single edge blade with clipped back point over a black painted steel open guard stamped 1004 and with small rectangular brass plaque stamped 'PAT 869', ribbed ebonised grip and steel backstrap, in a brass mounted brown leather scabbard stamped 'CW N 16 39', blade length 60cm long.
A William IV ivory handled mameluke by Andrews of London presented to Lord Charles Innes-Kerr:, the curved blade with single edge and clipped back pin, decorated with crown and 'WRIV' cypher over crossed sword and cannon within a laurel wreath, signed as per title to ricasso with Pall Mall address, regulation cast brass hilt with quillons, two piece ivory grip with Tudor Rose securing pins and laurel wreath mounted bullion loop, in a polished brass scabbard with double suspension rings, blade length 76.5cm long.*Provenance Formerly the property of Lord Charles Innes-Kerr, originally owned by his maternal grandfather James Charles Dalbiac then purchased by W H Potter as a memento of Lord Charles from the auction of the contents of Iron Cross House, Byfield, Northamptonshire. Iron Cross House was owned by Mr Potter and had been leased to Lord and Lady Innes-Kerr until 1916 as a hunting 'box'

A late 19th /early 20th century Indian Cavalry sword by Wilkinson, London:, signed as per tittle to ricasso, the curved fullered blade over a rounded steel guard and shaped chequered walnut grip, in a leather bound wooden scabbard with oversize chape and remains of leather frog, blade length 91cm.
