Tachi (sword)Japanese, Meiji periodin a sectional ivory scabbard 3cm long carved with Samurai, having brass mounts with Mons, 93cm longEarly 20th Century (Late Meiji period). Not a replica. Old glue residue to the inside of the handle, which is loose from the blade. Overall wear, scratches and marks. Rust spots to the blade. Natural hairlines and flaws. Dents to the blade in places. Dents to some of the brass mounts which are also discoloured, due to age and use. Discolouration and fade to the string. Splits to the scabbards and some old repairs.

A Shibayama inlaid wood Tanto, Japan Meiji period (1868-1912) The Saya (scabbard) and Tsuka (handle) inlaid with insects and creatures, including a cricket, spider, butterflies, snail, beetles, made with a mother-of-pearl, tortoiseshell, horn, and va rious woods (various losses), single edged blade, 24cm to the handle, steel of blade 2cm deep near brass sectionCondition report: blade corroded in part, the ebonised band with Greek key pattern is detached from the scabbard end, but it’s partner piece is attached to handle, scabbard wood had a few scuffs and scars, parts of the insect inlay in various materials is missing, the handle wood has a split along top edge, runs over half way, also missing bits of inlay to insects, we haven’t had the handle off, it is not a conventional peg, and we don’t want to damage it. Judging by the quality it may be signed on the tang.
