Edward VIII period Irish Guards 1892 pattern sword, the 82 cm blade by Edward Smith, 5 Boyle Street London, with E.VIII.R. cypher, serial number 1797, with the initials D.W.S.P.R., a crowned badge of the Irish Guards with 10 WWI battle honours, the plated hilt pierced with Irish Guards badge, wirebound fishskin grip and chequered back with domed pommel and ball finial, overall length 98.5 cm, in its sam browne field scabbardQTY: (1)NOTE:D.W.S.P. Reynolds was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant with the Irish Guards in 1936. He was killed in action with the 2nd Bn, Irish Guards on 23 May 1940 and is commemorated in the Outreau Communal Cemetery, France.His father was Major Douglas Reynolds VC, who was killed in action on 23 February 1916 whilst serving with the 83rd Bde, Royal Artillery.V.C. London Gazette: 16 November 1914"At Le Cateau, on 26th Aug., he took up two teams and limbered up two guns under heavy Artillery and Infantry fire, and though the enemy was within 100 yards, he got one gun away safely. D.S.C.', wire-bound fish-skin grip, lions head pommel with bullion sword knot, overall length 96.5 cm, in its black leather scabbard with brass mounts and all weather sword bag, original newspaper cuttings, Certificate of Service as Master of a Foreign-Going Ship dated 12 June 1952, a typed record of service and two photographs of the recipient as a junior officer together with family medals comprising a WWI D.C.M. miniature dress medal group to Sergeant George Cussins, West Yorkshire Regiment (recipients father), full-size Italy Star and Africa Star QTY: (7)NOTE:D.S.C. London Gazette: 27 December 1940'For courage and continuous good services in the Channel Mobile Balloon Barrage.'George Cussins joined the Royal Naval Reserve at the age of 16, he was appointed Midshipman in 1938, and served in various ships throughout WWII and submarines from 1943-45, including his first ship HMS City of Lyons in which he sailed round the world three times and took part in the rescue of nine people from the Portuguese schooner Donna Amelia in July 1937. The crew had been adrift in the South Atlantic for many days, for this the Portuguese Consul in Liverpool made a presentation and publically thanked the ship's captain. He was in command of HMS Inglis from 1945-46, HMS Birch from 1946-47, and the minesweeper HMS Byms in 1947. Cussins was in charge of seamanship training of Upper Yardman at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth from 1951-53, followed by extensive service commanding ships, until retirement in 1965.

* Sword. A fine Victorian Warwickshire Rifle Volunteers presentation sword, the 81 cm slightly curved blade by Reeves Maker, Toledo Works Birmngham, engraved 'Presented to Capt W.B. Briggs by the Members of No Company Birmingham Rifle Volunteers Novr 27th 1860', with acorns and rose decoration additionally engraved with a young head profile of Queen Victoria and 'Warwickshire Rifle Volunteers', the opposite side identically engraved, with ornate steel VR cypher hilt pierced with crest engraved Warwickshire Rifle Volunteer, wirebound chequered horn grip and ornate pommel, overall length 97 cm, in its steel scabbard plus a folder of research including copied obituaryQTY: (1)NOTE:When the volunteer movement first began in England Major William Barwell Briggs was one of the first ardent supporters in Birmingham. He died of retrocedent gout at his residence at Edgbaston in 1877 and his funeral was well attended as he was a very popular officer.

* Japanese Sword. A WWII Japanese katana, the 72.5 cm curved steel blade signed on the tang and additionally inscribed on both sides of the blade, with bronze habaki, pierced bronze tsuba, leather bound grip and bronze mounts and catch, in its brown leather scabbard with bronze mounts including a wheel which suggests the sword was almost certainly carried by a short soldier to compensate from dragging the scabbard, overall length 100.5 cm QTY: (1)
With a 76 cm flat curved blade with spear point, indistinct engraved decoration including GR monogram, with wire bound leather grip, curved langets, stirrup guard and domed pommel. With leather scabbard with steel end. 89 cm. *CR Pitting to blade, decoration rubbed, scabbard in poor condition.
With a 119 cm barrel tapering from octagonal to round with decorative cast detail, with a simple matchlock action, decoratively engraved metal mounts and fixings and suspension ring to one side with 'S' shaped hook. 148 cm overall. With a primitive bone handled knife with 37 cm blade, in a bound two-part wooden scabbard. *CR First a nice example with some marking and scuffing to surfaces and small areas of loss, but generally a good patina and surface.
With an 84cm tapering, pointed single edged blade with partial fuller, unmarked except for 'Proved'. With a broad guard with George V crest above scrolls and foliage, with wire bound leather grip and domed pommel, in leather service scabbard. 103 cm overall. *CR Some marking and scuffing to grip and scabbard, blade good, light surface marking to guard.
A 1907 pattern bayonet with a 43 cm, single edged pointed blade with fuller, marked to the ricasso 'Sanderson' and various inspection marks, with a two part wooden grip. In a leather and steel scabbard, and a webbing frog and belt hanger, 58 cm overall. With a similar bayonet in relic condition with forward facing quillon and similar grip. 58 cm. *CR First in nice condition with good blade and nice patina of age. Second in poor condition.
With a 79cm slender pointed blade with pointed tip, scrolling etched decoration, marked to the ricasso 'Robt Mole & Sons Birm Makers to the War and India Offices'. with a wire bound grip and gilt shell form guard, slender knuckle bow and plumed helmet pommel. In leather and brass scabbard. With bullion wire sword knot. 94cm overall. *CR Scabbard with two splits, surfaces generally very nice with only light marking.
A 1917 pattern bayonet with a 43cm sharpened pointed blade with single fuller, marked '1917 Remington' With two part wooden grip, in a green finished leather scabbard with brown leather frog. 60 cm overall. *CR Usual scuffig and marks, strap at top of belt hanger broken. Generally a nice example.
With a 85 cm pointed single edged blade with double fuller, with unusual special order hilt. The folding guard with Prussian eagle, matt gilt with polished highlights, the eagle on both sides of the guard, with wire bound black bakelite grip with attached FWR monogram. The pommel and knuckle bow with high relief leaf decoration. In black painted scabbard with single ring suspension. 102 cm overall. *CR A fine example with good original finish and detail.
Two No4. MKII spike bayonets with 20 cm blades and scabbards, both marked and with functioning springs. 26 cm. Two American fighting knives with various markings including 'US M3 1943' to one blade, and 'Camillus U.S.A.' to one scabbard. 38 and 33 cm overall. And a French Lebel bayonet with tapering four edged blade (lacking scabbard). 63.5 cm. 5 items. *CR First two with some wear to surfaces, second two recent examples. Last lacking scabbard.
With a 90 cm curved, sharpened pipe backed blade wit spear point. Attractively engraved to both sides with VR monogram beneath a crown and above oak leaves. Marked to the ricasso for 'Prosser to the Royal Family 9 Charring Cross London. With three bar hilt, forward facing quillon, wire bound shagreen grip and rounded pommel. In a steel scabbard with twin ring hangers. 115cm overall. It is tempting to think of this sword in use as it is of the type often carried by officers in the Charge of the Light Brigade. *CR A very fine example with good quality blade with well executed engraving. Two small chips to the top of the grip.
A Malayan Kris with a 24.5 cm single edged blade, on a short carved hardwood handle of stylised bird form, in a tapering white metal ad wire mounted scabbard with conforming carving. 39 cm overall, And a reproduction of an early axe on wooden shaft with leather bindings. *CR First with loose wire to scabbard and light marking and slight chips.
A 1943 Pattern Indian bayonet with a 30 cm pointed single edged blade marked G.R.I. Mk II, 43. RFI, with a two part wooden handle, lacking scabbard, 42 cm overall. And a spike bayonet with 20 cm spike blade and scabbard with belt hanger. (2). *CR First lacking scabbard, some rubbing to blade, second with surface wear throughout.
With a 48 cm blade with a sharpened edge and saw blade to the other side with a partial fuller between. Marked 'Waffenfabrik Neuhausen' to the ricasso, numbered 795261 to the cross piece, the grip with two part wooden handle. In black finished scabbard with leather belt hanger stamped 29 'Sattler jos Christen Wolfenschiessen'. 64 cm overall. *CR Some discolouring to the leather, generally a very nice example.
With an 81 cm gently curved and sharpened blade, with a broad fuller and shaped tip, marked to the back of the blade 'J. J. Prunviel Solingen'. With diamond shaped cross guard engraved with a crest and heraldic device of a standing cockerel, the two part ivory grip with twin bolt with floral fixings. In a steel scabbard with decorative squared end, twin suspension rings. 97 cm overall. A Cites licences has been acquired for this item. Ivory Submission Reference AVZ4W3MQ CITES permit is included. Exporting outside the EU will require an additional export permit. *CR Areas of loss to grip, rubbing and light rust to all surfaces, damage to cutting edge in places. Generally good fresh to the market condition.
