19th Century Officers Sabre: Presented From Capts Outlaws Reg Madras L Cavalry to His Friend with scabbard together with Remains of similar Item with Dedication Cawder Khan Bahauder to his Friend Lieutenant Colonel T.H.S Conway CB. Both Swords in poor condition with second item missing lower section. (2)
A 19th century French bayonet within metal scabbard; dated 1872 and with ribbed brass handle, together with one other similar (both for restoration)The first 'thinner' bayonet/scabbard (with the lot number attached) exhibits rust and oxidisation throughout although no major dents or problems are noted on that scabbard. The number on the scabbard matches the number on the hilt of the bayonet. The Auctioneer can see a press stud on the bottom of the handle which is brass mounted with a spring and is functioning although it is a little corroded. The blades or scabbards do not appear bent of out of shape - the first scabbard appears straight but is oxidised, the blade is slightly kinked at the very end (pointed end). The second bayonet - the scabbard is very oxidised and rusty, there is some original black paint towards the top of it, there has been a small push dent around 5cm from the bottom and also there is a full-width dent about 3cm from the top. The serial numbers on the blades and scabbards are not evident but they do appear to match/be the original fit. The press stud function on the 2nd scabbard looks to be bent out of shape at the bottom of the handle. The blade appears straight but is quite oxidised as is the hilt etc.

All brass mounting is heavily dented, some of the sections loose to the scabbard. There are further bad chips and damage as well as splits and hairlines. The blade has probably been ground down as stated, it is scratched and pitted. In general heavy wear and tear throughout. This item will need attention and restoration.

Japanese WWII period katana, mounted for civilian use possibly a home defence sword, the tang signed 'Kato Jumyo'Kato Zennosuke (Yoshinosuke) Jumyo (b.10th July 1893 d. 29th August 1956) worked at Seki in Gifu (Noshu / Mino province) and exhibited at sword forging contest in March 1941 qualified as 'second seat'. cutting edge length 67.5cmCondition report: Blade is straight and there are no serious damages or chips. There is some corrosion as illustrated online, the most serious patch illustrated in the sixth image along does eat into the cutting edge. The grip is slightly loose due to the retaining peg being a replacement. The grip shows signs of wear. Cracking to the lacquer along the joins of the scabbard, the black finish has some bubbling and flaking which has probably been repaired with paint at some point.
