Lot 64

dating: last quarter of the 18th Century provenance: Sardinian Kingdom, Blade ribbed at the center, with fuller at the at the forte and marked 'PEDRO DEL MONTE / EN TOLEDO'. Brass hilt with remains of ancient silver plating. Wide butt plate with two valves and uncommon fullers arranged in a radial pattern. Quillon block, guard and pommel with typical spiral decoration, grooves and fullers. Hilt with probably ancient covering featuring copper wire binding and Moor's heads. Antique leather scabbard (signs of use and time, consumed parts) with interesting iron mounts with coeval spiral decoration on the front side and smooth on the back. Cap with one lug. length 109 cm.

dating: last quarter of the 18th Century provenance: Sardinian Kingdom, Straight, single-and half- edged blade, with fuller at the first half, blued at the forte and engraved with small gold-inlaid floral motifs and trophies. Flat butt-plate on one side and decorated in relief on the opposite side. Mounts with typical ribbed and grooved spiral decorations on center of crossguard, on the guard, on the pommel and on the button of the parry quillon. The wire binding (earlier?) made of copper and brass wire and provided with Moor's heads. Without scabbard. length 101,5 cm.

dating: 1840-60 provenance: Sardinian Kingdom, The short sword with curved blade and flat faces, brass hilt in one piece, with numbers and 'FF' mark, large iron button. Black leather scabbard with evident signs of use and time. Brass mounts, chape marked 'GF' and crowned. Leather belt frog with remains of white color, provided with its loop to which the scabbard is attached (the leather is better preserved). Socket bayonet in brown patina with a 'T'-section blade. Rare. length 53 - 60,3 cm.

dating: Early 19th Century provenance: Kingdom fo Italy (Napoleonic), Straight blade of lozenge section, hexagonal towards the blued forte, decorated with small gilded engravings, with an eagle surmounted by a crown, with sticks and lightning bolts among claws, other friezes with floral motifs or small trophies on the left side. Empire style, brass hilt. Shell guard with crowned eagle loaded with a seven-pointed crown on the chest, among claws, sticks, lightning bolts and a five-pointed star. The guard decorated with architectural motifs. The pommel with a seven-pointed crown in relief on one side, and another effigy of the imperial eagle on the opposite side. Remains of silvering. Checkered, ebony hilt. With a leather scabbard provided with smooth, brass mounts. length 97 cm.

dating: 1815 - circa 1830 provenance: Sardinian Kingdom, Curved blade with flat sides, pitting, featuring the motto 'VIVE L'ARTILLERIE' surmounted by the remains of a trophy still discreetly visible on the left side, with the Savoy crowned eagle above the motto 'VIVE LE ROI' on the right side . Brass hilt in one piece with the handle, featuring the crowned 'R' mark on the guard. Antique leather scabbard with brass mounts. length 68,5 cm.

dating: Late 18th - Early 19th Century provenance: Sardinian Kingdom, Narrow blade with fuller near the back, a small missing part at the tip and some pitting, with the motto 'VIVE LE ROY DE SARDAIGNE' (still fairly legible) on the left side, with the crowned Savoy eagle placed between floral decorations on the right side. The hilt with a lozenge-section sword-shell and a rounded guard (with repairs) featuring an additional quillon. Handle with (later?) leather coating and brass wire binding. Long outlined cap. Antique wooden scabbard with leather lining, brass chape and iron cap with heart-shaped button. See a similar cutlass, Mod. 1775 for a soldier and corporal of the Guards Regiment and the Battalion Artillery in 'Le Lame del Re, Sabri e Spade dell'Armata Sabauda dal 1560 al 1831' (by M. Lupo, publisher: Centro Studi Piemontesi , 2007, Italy), described on pages 326-335, with photo on p. 327, fig. 69, the specimen on the right with a blade of the same type. length 75 cm.

dating: Second half of the 18th Century provenance: Sardinian Kingdom, Large, curved, single-and false-edged blade with large and broad fuller, short tang, engraved at the base with cross shaped as an order, trophies and floral motifs on one side, and Savoy's eagle under crown and above 'VIVE LE ROI' on the other side. Strong pitting. Brass hilt with guard provided with a loop joined to the sword-shell, grip with ring nut and leather sleeve, long, smooth cap and with riveted tang. Leather scabbard with brass mounts with pitting, the hook is missing. length 74 cm.

dating: late 18th Century provenance: Sardinian Kingdom, Wide, curved blade with fullers on three quarter of its length (some pitting and spike at the edge) with the motto 'VIVE LE ROI DE SARDAIGNE' clearly visible on the right side, with crowned Savoy eagle among floral decorations on the left side. Brass hilt consisting of two interlocking elements. The stirrup guard without langets and protruding towards the handle. In a separate element, made of brass, with nineteen 'knurls'. Complete with scabbard made of antique leather. Interesting variant. See a very similar sabre, Mod. 1797 in 'Le Lame del Re, Sabri e Spade dell'Armata Sabauda dal 1560 al 1831' (M. Lupo, publisher: Centro Studi Piemontesi, 2007, Italy), described and photographed on pages 411-414. Produced in 300 samples. However, this one features a hilt consisting of a single block with no interlocking system like the French ones and the one presented in our auction. length 74,5 cm.

Brass hilt with butt-plate shaped as a lozenge marked 'Sa 10'. Single loop guard. Long, smooth cap. Old leather grip with the remains of wire binding. Leather scabbard (short) with unstitching and lacking parts at the tip. Brass hilt with butt-plate shaped as a lozenge, guard with additional loop guard. Probably earlier grip with leather covering and brass wire spiral. Atypical brass stud decoration. Smooth cap. Complete with leather scabbard (small opening on one side) with metal button and chape. length 74,5 cm.

Brass regiment hilt with lozenge-section butt-plate and stirrup guard with additional quillon. Probably antique hilt with leather covering and woodworm holes, complete with brass wire winding (partially loose). Smooth cap. Antique leather scabbard with brass mounts. length 75 cm.

Brass hilt with guard with a loop joined to the sword-shell, grip with ring nut and leather sleeve, a small part of the wire binding is missing, smooth cap with riveted tang. Remains of scabbard with restoration. length 76 cm.

Brass hilt with lozenge-shaped sword-shell and guard with an additional quillon. Grip probably antique, with leather covering and brass wire binding. Antique leather scabbard (open at the bottom) with remains of the loop. Rare in such a good state of preservation. length 74,5 cm.

Brass hilt with butt-plate shaped as a lozenge and guard provided with an additional loop guard. Long cap, ending in a beautiful helmet with comb and chanfrin shaped as a grotesque mask. Grip with probably earlier covering, leather with spirals of copper wire bindings. Earlier leather scabbard complete with small metal chape and with remains of the loop. length 75,5 cm.
