An interesting example of the 1897 pattern British Infantry officer's sword by D Jones, Deansgate Manchester the blade entwined with Edward VII folding scrollage and Royal coat of arms complete in its leather scabbard and portepee knot. This sword was the property of Colonel Sir Thomas Blatherwick MC, DSO, KCB, JP (1888-1950) Colonel of the East Lancs Regiment and one of the youngest colonels in the British Army. In World War II he was ADC to King George VI and was knighted in 1949. He was born and lived in Knutsford all his life. A photograph of the eminent Colonel wearing this sword is included with this lot together with an interesting letter of provenance from the present family member.
