dating: 1844 provenance: Sardinian Kingdom, Beautiful, mod. 1833, Albertina sword by Emanuele Pes di Villamarina. Straight, double-edged blade with central fuller, engraved with motto 'CHARLES ALBERT ROI DE SARDAIGNE' on the right side, and on the left side 'DIEU ET LE ROJ', both mottoes between engraved trophies and floral motifs. Gilded silver hilt (marks on the quillon and on the rain-guard) of typical shape. The finely engraved rain-guard with dedication 'To Emanuele Pes Marquis of Villamarina / The Officers of the Royal Corps of the / Staff / With Gratitude DD 1844'. Silver-plated grip similar to a wire binding and with gilded and engraved ring nuts. Leather scabbard with two suspension rings. Emanuele Pes di Villamarina (1777-1852), son of the Sardinian nobleman Salvatore Pes and the Piedmontese noblewoman Vittoria Teresa Maffei di Boglio, had a brilliant military and diplomatic career. He served the Savoy monarchy faithfully in various prestigious roles, reaching the rank of General of Army Corps and holding important government posts until his retirement in 1851. length 105.5 cm.
