A Kriegsmarine Navel Officer's Dagger by Carl Eickhorn SOLINGEN, dagger constructed of a 25cm. nickel-plated steel blade, decorated with foliate and anchor, both sides feature two blood groves, missing felt spacer, brass upper cross-guard which bears decorative anchors, In the upper cross-guard sits a fully-functioning blade release button, with the catch set flush into the blade allowing the dagger to remain securely in the scabbard when not in use. The grip is ivory-coloured celluloid with seven rows of tightly-wrapped woven brass wire in the creases of the grip. The pommel is constructed of a brass Reichsadler (National Eagle), with the eagle gripping a wreathed swastika, brass scabbard with twin hangers.
Second World War variant Fairbairn Sykes 2nd pattern fighting knife 6 1/8in. (16.6cm.) steel blade, broad oval wooden shaped handle, brown leather scabbard. * There are various theories regarding this type of knife, made for use in tropical climates or for pilots/Airborne troops to save weight, but the most likely explanation is that they were made up when one or more cutlers ran out of handles and were using up blades and crossguards, a nice wartime knife, (re: Ron Flook, The Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting knife and other Commando Knives, plate 155)
