An early 19th century East European cavalry officer’s sword, curved fullered blade 30½”, etched on both sides with star, man in the moon, 2 stars, trophy of arms, 2 stars and turbanned head and shoulders at forte, brass pronounced stirrup hilt with langets (device missing from outer side), knucklebow, plain forward sloping pommel and backstrap with langets, wirebound leather grip (some wear), in ifs steel scabbard with shaped shoe, 2 brass bands with rings, and brass throat mount; old label attached: “Russian Lt Cavalry Officer’s sword and scabd. c 1800”. GC Plate 8
A 19th century Turkish officer’s mameluke style sword, fully curved, fullered blade 28½”, probably German, etched on both sides with trophies of arms and flags with foliage, in scrolled panels, the ornate sheet brass covered hilt, retaining a little original gilt, embossed with foliate scrolls, and set with red and turqouise “stones” on the outer side, in its dark green velvet covered scabbard, the locket (loose), middle band and chape en suite with hilt and set with stones on the outer. GC, the blade retaining approx 40% original polish (light surface rust patches, scabbard velvet some wear). Plate 7
A high quality hilted early 19th century Indian sword tulwar, curved fullered blade 32½”, from a 1796 pattern light cavalry officers sword, etched with crowned GR cypher, mythical beasts, trophies and flourishes, steel hilt of traditional form with long langets, domed crossguard finials, knucklebow with ornamental finial, disc pommel and pierced top mount, finely bordered overall with gold damascene panels of stylized flowers and foliage, in its leather covered scabbard with blackened steel chape and 2 bands, with belt loop, all bordered with stylized gold damascene foliate patterns. A Scottish courtsword, slender blade 31”, etched on both sides with thistle spray within scrolled foliate panels, gilt hilt, the foliate scrolled turn down shellguard bearing a thistle spray, grape finialled crossguard, ornamental panel to knuckelbow, fluted ball pommel with prominent stud, simulated swollen copper wirebound grip, in its black patent leather (kinked) scabbard with gilt locket and chape bearing maker’s shield “Jas. Holbrook & Co 21 Princes St Hanover Sq”. Very Good Condition (few pitting stains to blade). Plate 21

A French gladius style sidearm, slightly swollen DE blade 19” (tip AF) with stamps at forte including d. 1832, solid brass cruciform hilt, GC (cleaned bright); and a Chassepot bayonet, brass grip, in its steel scabbard (non matching nos), backstrap markings mostly removed, otherwise GC, a clean example. An 1890 pattern cavalry trooper’s sword, slightly curved fullered blade 34½”, numerous stamps at forte, including date “4/97”, steel guard with reinforced edges and pierced Maltese cross device, plain pommel, chequered leather grips, with leather knot, in its steel scabbard with opposing rings, the top engraved “Pte C Cooke, Khartoum, 2nd Sept 1898”, back of guard stamped “21L/462”, together with a photostat list of “B” Squadron, 21st Lancers, including the entry “Cooke, C....wounded”. A George VI officer’s 1897 pattern sword of The Royal Engineers, straight fullered blade 33”, by “J R Gaunt & Son Limited Late Edward Thurkle London & Birmingham”, etched with crowned GVIR cypher and wreath on one side and winged lightning with “Royal” and “Engineers” on the other, in scrolled panels, regulation pierced plated hilt incorporating crowned GVIR cypher, plain pommel and chequered backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its steel scabbard (some light pitting) with 2 rings. Good Condition Plate 22
A Prussian infantry sidearm, broad SE blade 18½”, slightly swollen towards hatchet point, solid brass hilt with prominent S shaped crossguard, ribbed grip rounded pommel with prominent stud, plain backstrap, in its leather scabbard with brass locket and chape, numbered en suite with hilt 103.R.2.149”. GC Plate 7
A World War I Welsh machine gunner’s sidearm, made in one piece, polished leaf shaped flat blade 17”, with central fuller, marked “Dros Urddas Cymru” (For the Honour of Wales) at forte, stepped disc guard, which folds flat, cord bound grip, ovoid pommel with “skull cracker” point, in its khaki fabric wound scabbard with brown leather chape and belt loop; together with a Royal Welsh Fusiliers cap badge. Very Good Condition. Plate 22
A mid 19th century continental infantry officers sword, curved fullered blade 29½”, with narrow back fuller to centre section, brass hilt, the slender ovoid guard with reinforced edges, floral embossed quillon, (bent upwards), single sideloop with ornamental ends, slightly forward sloping cap shaped pommel and foliate panelled backstrap, ribbed leather grip, in its leather scabbard with brass chape and locket with frog stud. GC (some wear and pitting)
A good WWII Japanese NCO’s sword, fullered blade 30½”, numbered 91862 at forte, darkened steel curved section guard into plain pommel and backstrap with ears, chequered en suite with wooden inner section of grip, leather knot (one strap broken), clip to darkened steel scabbard with single ring and loop to throat mount. Near VGC retaining much original finish overall.
A Japanese infantry officer’s sword, slender slightly curved blade 29” with back fuller, brass hilt, the inner edge of the guard turned over, the outer edge pierced and panelled with flowers and foliage, forward sloping cap shaped pommel and backstrap with ears, finely chequered and with flower panels, wirebound darkwood grip. Basically GC (some wear, no scabbard).
An early 20th century Chilean cavalry trooper’s sword, slightly curved, sharply fullered blade 35”, with arms of Chile stamped on one side at forte, and French “Manufacture d’armes de Chatellerault” with inspector’s initials JH on backstrap, steel semi basket guard, slotted overall, steeply forward sloping cap shaped pommel, ribbed composition semi pistol grip, in its blackened steel scabbard with single ring. Good Condition with a dark patina to blade and hilt. Plate 22
A pre WW1 German infantry officer’s sword, curved, fullered blade 31”, etched with trophies of flags and weapons in scrolled foliate panels, plain steel hilt with traces of plating, langets to crossguard, pronounced knucklebow, pommel and backstrap with ears, wirebound fishskin grip, in its steel scabbard with single ring. GC Plate 8
A rare Third Reich TeNo (Technische Nothilfe) Leader’s dagger, the blade etched with the TeNo eagle and original Eickhorn logo, and numbered 0970, the hilt with oxidised silver finish, orange grip and silver bullion portepee, in its scabbard, the iron throat also numbered 0970 (slightly indistinct owing to pitting of the throat), with its original dress pattern hanging straps, with distinctive cogwheel buckles. Good Condition. Bowman describes this as “probably one of the rarest of the Third Reich production daggers”, as the numbers produced were relatively small. Plate 20
A Vic 1845 pattern officer’s sword of The 85th (The King’s L. Infantry) Regt, slightly curved, fullered blade 32½”, faintly etched with crowned VR cypher on both sides with strung bugle and “85” on one side and “85 Regt” on the other, in scrolled panels, with maker’s name “Tatham 37 Charing Cross” and “Warranted Proved” in scrolls at forte, regulation brass hilt with turn down inner portion, stepped pommel, ornamental backstrap, wirebound grip, in steel scabbard with 2 rings. Basically GC (blade worn and cleaned, much of the etching unclear).
An Italian infantry officers sword, slender, straight fullered blade 32”, with double fullers at hatchet point, plated steel hilt with reinforced edge to guard with thumb stop, 2 sidebars, plain pommel with prominent stud, in its plated scabbard with 2 rings. Basically GC (some rust and bubbling to plating overall).
A good WWII 2nd pattern FS military knife, blade 7”, with logo of “Wilkinson Sword Co Ltd London” on one side at forte and “The FS Fighting Knife” on the other, steel crossguard, finely chequered grip, in its black leather scabbard with darkened chape (elastic strap broken). Near VGC Plate 7
A Spanish General officer’s sword, slender straight plated blade 30”, with gilt on black foliate panels for half its length on both sides, with crowned crossed sword and baton in panel on one side, and “Fabrica de Toledo, Spain” at forte, elaborate mameluke style hilt, the crossguard with Spanish R Arms on one side and crossed sword and baton on the other, ornamental all round backstrap to white composition grip, in its plated scabbard with ornamental mount and single ring. VGC not old.
A German hunting hanger, c 1900, single edged fullered blade 16”, etched on both sides with stag, deer, wild boar etc, in foliate, scrolled panels, brass hilt, with small turn down shell guard on the other side, S shaped crossguard (bent) with hoof terminals, staghorn grip with 3 ovoid studs, cup shaped pommel, in its leather scabbard with brass chape and locket with frog stud. Good Condition Plate 20
An interesting mid 19th century sidearm, plated straight SE blade 24½”, DE at point, etched “William Hatley Bacon” in scroll and foliate panel on one side, brass stirrup hilt with pronounced quillon (bent), langets, plain pommel and backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its leather scabbard with brass chape and locket with frog stud. Basically GC (some pitting to blade edges and wear to plating) Plate 8
A Nicaraguan diplomat’s sword, slender hollow triangular section blade 30½”, with maker’s name (unclear) at forte, etched with foliate panels for one third length, brass hilt, the pierced turn down shell guard incorporating arms within circle “Republica Nicaragua” on trophy of flags, with foliage, foliate crossguard, ornamental domed pommel, swollen MOP panelled grip, in its brass mounted steel scabbard with single ring. Good Condition. Plate 21
An early 19th century Highland broadsword, double edged blade 33½”, triple fullered for two thirds length, steel basket hilt of traditional form, the 3 slender panels pierced with hearts in a shallow diamond pattern, the 2 larger panels with hearts in a circular pattern, fluted pommel with large stud, wirebound fishskin covered grip, in a leather covered scabbard with iron locket and chape. Good Condition, the hilt with a dark patina. Plate 22
