A FINE GEORGIAN OFFICER'S SABRE, CIRCA 1803-5 with broad curved blade double-edged towards the point, frost etched and gilt with contrasting blue over almost its entire length on each face with scrolling foliage, neo-classical designs, the crowned Royal Arms, trophies-of-arms and the maker's name 'Osborn , Birmingham' on one face and with further designs including the crowned Royal cypher, and '& Pall Mall, London', on the other, gilt-brass stirrup hilt comprising scrolling quillons set with a chased silver flower enclosed by cut steel beads, cross-guard cast with swags in low relief, a pair of langets set with silver flowers and with bead-set borders en suite with the quillon, knuckle-guard with a spray of acanthus, back-strap with a further spray of acanthus in high relief, and steel grip enriched with low domed ovoid silver beads, in its steel scabbard etched on the outer face with trophies-of-arms, foliage and a mounted cavalryman, with large gilt-brass mounts comprising chape, middle-band and locket all cast with acanthus in high relief, the latter two enriched with a band of steel beadwork and with a foliate loop for suspension (one reattached), and the locket inscribed 'H. AN AMERICAN PRESENTATION CIVIL WAR SWORD BY W. H. HORSTMANN & SONS, PHILADELPHIA, CIRCA 1865-70 with pipe-backed blade etched with laurel foliage, a tent, the motto 'E.Pluribus Unum', an American eagle, a US shield on a trophy-of-arms and oak foliage above the maker's details on one face and similar designs including a native American warrior on the reverse, the back-edge etched 'Iron Proof' (very small chips, patches of staining and light pitting), brass hilt comprising a pair of scrolling frontal bars joining the knuckle-guard, the latter rising to a cap pommel, decorated throughout with foliage in low relief and retaining traces of gilding, vertically fluted nickel grip, in its original steel scabbard with brass mounts boldly engraved with foliage on the front, the locket and middle-band fitted with a ring for suspension, and the latter with presentation inscription (the scabbard with areas of light pitting and patinated overall) 89.5 cm; 35 1/4 in blade The presentation inscription reads: 'Presented to Col. Geo. Gray by the Officers of the Mich. 6th Cavalry'. On 12th December 1862 the Michigan Cavalry Brigade was formed in Washington D.C. with Colonel George Gray commanding the 6th Regiment. In July the following year Gray fought with Brigadier General George A. Custer at the Battle of Gettysburg. Custer recalls the ability of Colonel Gray and the men of the 6th Cavalry in his action report: 'The 6th Michigan Cavalry rendered very good service by guarding both my right and left flank: also by supporting Battery 'M' under a very hot fire from the enemy's battery. Colonel Gray, commanding the regiment, was constantly seen wherever his presence was most needed and is deserving of special mention.'

Harding Jr., Chicago Transferred to the Art Institute of Chicago, 1982, Acc. No. 1982.2855 A note in the museum archives by Stephen V. Grancsay states that this was originally a sword cane, later adapted to a musket rest and exhibited at the Columbian World Exhibition, Chicago, 1893.

AN IMPRESSIVE KNIGHTLY SWORD IN 15TH CENTURY STYLE, LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY with strongly tapering double-edged blade of flattened-diamond section, iron hilt comprising a pair of straight ribbon-like quillons, and diamond-shaped pommel, the latter with an oval recess on each face, and fabric-covered grip retained by wire mesh between 'Turk's heads', in its wooden scabbard covered with crimson fabric, formed with a pronounced moulding at the mouth, and with gold-coloured metal mounts comprising locket, middle-band and chape, the former two incorporated stylised fleur-de-lys 89.5 cm; 35 1/4 in blade The present sword was probably designed by Sir Guy Francis Laking and made in the workshops of Felix Joubert in Chelsea, circa 1910 for Seymour Hick's celebrated production of Shakespeare's Richard III. See Laking 1911, pp. 105-8. Another example from this group was sold Christie's South Kensington, 16th July 1997, lot 59. Seymour Hicks made an acclaimed tableau of Richard II at the Coliseum in 1910 where he employed no less than one hundred and eighty soldiers. He was quick to acknowledge the help he received from a number of people including Sir Guy Francis Laking and Felix Joubert, as reported in the Daily Telegraph 5th November 1910. The latter is illustrated here holding the present sword.

A RARE VENETIAN SILVER-MOUNTED DAGGER, DATED 1786 with slender reinforced blade decorated with ornamental piercings within a pair of narrow fullers and a notched central ridge, silver hilt comprising a pair of drooping quillons, outer ring-guard set with a filigree 'doge's' crown set with coloured pastes, spirally fluted pommel, and retaining its original grip of plaited silver wire between Turk's Heads', in its original silver scabbard chased over its full surface with flowers and foliage incorporating the owner's initials and the dates '1786 and '1734' on the outer face, a galleon on the reverse, and fitted with a slender loop for suspension 35.0 cm; 13 3/4 in blade On 12th May 1797 the Venetian Great Council voted itself out of existence and thus ended the Republic. Napoleon's army entered the city shortly after.

˜A FINE CAUCASIAN SILVER-MOUNTED DAGGER (KINDJAL), GEORGIA, TIBLISI ASSAY MARKS, DATED 1870 with broad double-edged blade formed with a central wootz panel including two long slender fullers and, over the forte with an incised frame enclosing the cutler's mark on each face, iron hilt decorated around its border with gold koftgari scrolls, fitted with a large silver ferrule at the base, encircled with a band of filigree and decorated at the front with a panel of neillo scrollwork and, on the back, with a niello bird, fitted with a pair of grip-scales of dark horn and contrasting marine ivory, retained by three iron rivets, fitted at the front with three washers decorated with gold koftgari foliage, in its leather-covered wooden scabbard encased in silver over the entire outer face and the majority of the inner, the former decorated with a symmetrical arrangement of flowers and foliage within a leafy framework enclosing a pair of central birds, the latter with a pair of serpents on the chape and with a brief inscription on the locket, fitted with a pocket for an additional knife and a loop for suspension, the hilt and scabbard both struck with assay marks and the maker's mark 40.0 cm; 15 3/4 in blade The assay master's mark is that of Jegor Blumberg, active 1841-1886. The inscription is in Georgian and includes the phrase 'For home and family'.

Blade's (Wesley Snipes) final battle costume from David S. Goyer's action-horror sequel Blade: Trinity. Variations of Blade's signature costume were worn throughout the film, and he donned his red-top attire for his final confrontation with the vampire patriarch Drake (Dominic Purcell) during the film's climactic scenes.The costume comprises a full-length faux-leather coat; a padded tactical vest featuring an engraved chest buckle fastener and a metal belt buckle at the waist (labelled "Wesley"); a red long-sleeved leotard decorated with printed tribal designs; a pair of neoprene gloves with faux-silver painted stud detailing; a pair of black trousers with a metal stake adhered in the left leg pocket (labelled "Wesley"); and a pair of thick-soled lace-up boots. Handwritten text inside the coat reads "Padded fit, sprayed for water repellency". A sword scabbard is adhered to the back of the vest and there is an intentional hole at the back of the coat, which allows the sword to be inserted. The costume exhibits minor wear from production use, with light marks on the coat and glue remnants around the waist buckle. The Dragonslayer's axe and a knight's sword from Rob Cohen's fantasy adventure DragonHeart. An axe was carried by one of the dragonslayers hired for King Einon (David Thewlis) by his mother Aislinn (Julie Christie). Bowen (Dennis Quaid) later held onto the axe when he swung out on a pulley, causing Einon to fall off the parapet during the climactic battle scenes. Swords were wielded by Einon's knights when they battled Bowen's army of villagers. The axe comprises a black metal head featuring a dragon-head emblem at the centre, and a long, dark-stained wooden handle. Intentionally distressed for the production, the Saxon knight's sword consists of a steel blade, a curved crossguard, a black leather grip and an oval metal pommel. The sword is stored in a black leather scabbard, which features a brown waist strap. Signs of wear include corrosion on the sword blade, scuffing on the wooden handle, and a slightly wobbly axe-head. King Galbatorix used his sword to slash a hanging map of Alagaësia, which fell to reveal his black dragon, Shruikan.The sword comprises a blunted aluminum blade; an ornate faux-gold metal guard formed into the shape of a two-headed dragon; a dark wooden grip with incorporated gold-coloured banding; and a circular pommel decorated with a dragon emblem. The black textured leather scabbard features matching faux-gold detailing and decorative black leather thongs wrapped around the upper section. Officers wore their swords on their hips during the opening battle against the Barbarian tribes in the forests of Germania.The sword is made of aluminium, with a wooden hilt decorated with brass leaves and a face. The sheath is made predominantly of wood, with a green suede cover, brass adornments and a leather cross strap, allowing it to hang at the wearer's hip. The blade has been intentionally tarnished to look time-worn, and there is some additional wear from production use and age, including scuffing and scratches. MacLeod wielded his katana throughout his modern-day adventures, using it to decapitate the reborn Immortal Jacob Kell (Bruce Payne), before absorbing his power through The Quickening.The sword comprises a polished aluminium blade with a high-impact plastic grip, which is finished to replicate the appearance of fashioned ivory. The grip features ornate carvings depicting tableaux from rural life, and the handle tip is carved into a dragon's snarling face. Between the handle and blade is a copper-coloured metal tsuba, engraved with images of birds of prey. Completing the lot is a black metal scabbard with black thread around the top. Robin Longstride's (Russell Crowe) hero sword from Ridley Scott's historical epic Robin Hood. Robin was given his sword by the dying Sir Robert Loxley (Douglas Hodge) and promised to return it to Loxley's father, Sir Walter Loxley (Max von Sydow). Sir Walter asked Robin to impersonate his son and keep the sword, which Robin used in battle against French invaders.The sword has a metal blade and hilt, with pearlescent inlays in the handle. "Rise and Rise Again" and "Until Lambs Become Lions" are engraved on either side of the handle. The sword comes in a brown leather scabbard with a metal tip. The scabbard is attached to a leather belt with metal buckles, as is a leather pouch stuffed with paper to give it shape. There is some wear from production use, including scuffing and scratches. The Headless Horseman wore his costume throughout the film as he haunted the town of Sleepy Hollow, with this version of the costume worn during the first flashback scene, in which the Hessian was beheaded. Created by Academy Award®-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, the costume consists of a grey, damask-patterned floor-length cape; a faux-leather and black velour tunic decorated with a double-headed dragon appliqué on the chest; a pair of gauntlets featuring bullion-embroidered double-headed axe emblems (labelled "Chris Walken 13121 The Headless Horseman Sleepy Hollow"); a thick leather belt with a large patterned belt buckle and an attached scabbard (labelled "Cosprop"); a pair of riding trousers with red-and-faux-silver ribbon detailing (labelled "Chris W, Hessian #1"); a pair of leather, scale-like thigh-high boots (right boot labelled "Chris W"); and a pair of removable ornate spurs (labelled "L" and "R" in red ink). Paris (Orlando Bloom) wielded the sword while fighting against Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson), the husband of his lover Helen (Diane Kruger), outside the walls of Troy. Trojan king Priam (Peter O'Toole) handed his son Paris the Sword of Troy in an additional scene from the director's cut of the film. Made of metal finished in faux-bronze paint, the heavyweight sword comprises a round guard featuring a horse motif, a grip featuring sporadic cut-out detailing, and a fishtail pommel. Several glyph-like patterns are etched into the base of the blade, and blue paint replicating a verdigris patina is applied to the guard and handle. The sword comes with a white leather scabbard which has white thong stitching running up one side.
