Victorian Crimean War Period Officer’s 1822/ 45 Pattern Sword.A good example, the slightly curved blade with etched decoration of a Crowned VR cypher and with the original owners initials of “ECG”. The hilt with brass open folding guard with Crowned VR cypher. Housed in original brass scabbard.The vendor has possibly attributed this sword to Major Edward Charles Griffiths who served with the 60th Rifles 1826-1859. This is not confirmed by Bosleys.
Napoleonic War Period Bavarian Officer’s Five Ball Spadroon This example with a 33 inch single edged blade. Quarter length blue and gilt decoration (traces only), depicting a crowned cypher and floral decoration. The hilt with a five ball decorated cross guard and knuckle guard. To the former is a gilt lion holding a shield. The wood chequered grip mounted with a gilt panel with engraved crowned cypher. Overall GC. Scabbard absent.
British Army 1847 Infantry Pattern Victorian Officer’s sword.A good example retailed through Landon & Morland of London. Single edged 32 inch fullered, slightly curved blade decorated with a VR entwined cypher surmounted by crown and with initials “RNC”. Gilt metal hilt with crowned VR cypher, shagreen grip and copper twist wire binding. Housed in restored leather and gilt metal scabbard fitted with two loose rings and frog button. Blade clean, etching remains clear. Gilt worn to base metal. GC.

Housed in original leather and gilt mounted scabbard. The mounts again with floral decoration. GC minor age wear small rust sections to the blade.

WW2 British Army Issue Brass Pommel Smatchet Fighting Knife.A good and scarce example, with single edged leaf shape blade. The hilt with large steel oval crossguard, heavy brass pommel stamped with broad arrow over “13”. The wooden slab grips secured by four steel rivets. Contained in its webbing covered fibre scabbard with rear belt loop and securing strap. Scabbard with maker “ME Co 1942”. Minor rust staining to steel.

Housed in an early pattern brown leather scabbard with nickel rounded chape. Tailored with elasticated retaining strap and complete with four tangs. The overall condition is good clean bright, with minor age wear. Blade length 16.5cm

Nepalese type kukri in leather scabbard with wooden handle and one small additional knife, together with a miniature kukri in leather scabbard, Spanish style miniature sword and a pair of Burmese carving knife and fork with wooden handle and scabbards. (3)(B.P. 21% + VAT) Kukris have damage and losses to scabbards in places, general wear and tear with age, taped repairs to one. Indian sword good overall condition, fair wear and tear excepted.

A group of three sacrificed iron weapons comprising: a spearhead with long leaf-shaped blade and tubular socket, blade end bent round parallel to the upper; a sword with flat-section two-edged blade and rounded tip, sloped shoulder and long tang, omega-shaped guard, the blade double-bent into an S-shape; a sword in its iron scabbard with scooped mouth, bent into a double-S shape and the scabbard delaminated. Cf. Stead, I., British Iron Age Swords and Scabbards, London, 2006, item 185, for type. 2.2 kg total, 26.5-47cm (10 1/2 - 18 1/2"). From an old Yorkshire, UK, collection; acquired on the UK art market before 2000. [3, No Reserve] Fair condition.

An iron sword-blade fragment, lentoid in section with slight fuller, the tip housed in a bronze chape of its scabbard; the chape tongue-shaped with openwork ornament to both faces comprising an upper bear-head motif on guilloche bands above a mesh with facing lion-mask to the centre. Cf. Paulsen, P., Schwertortbänder der Wikingerzeit, Stuttgart, 1953, item 61 (Burg Holme, Latvia); Arbman, H., Birka I: Die Gräber, Uppsala, 1940, pl.5, for type. 146 grams, 22cm (8 3/4"). A bronze bifacial scabbard chape with heater-shaped body, knop finial, extended lateral arms and cross between, incised Jellinge style ornament; remains of the wooden lathes and iron blade-tip within.
