A Highland officer’s dirk of The Black Watch, scallop backed blade 11”, brass studded strapwork hilt, the pommel set with glass citrine (chipped), in its leather scabbard with brass mounts en suite with hilt, the locket bearing St Andrew in wreath and owner’s name “J G Rennie” scratched on the back, the other mounts bearing thistle spray, companion knife and fork with glass citrine pommels; and a matching skean dhu, scalloped blade 4”, strapwork hilt, with St Andrew cross and citrine pommel, in its brown leather sheath with brass mounts. A painted miniature c 1850, of John Searle, RN (1788 - 1852), head and shoulders, wearing Naval General Service medal with clasp, black lacquered frame, 6¾” x 5½” with gilt inner, GC; together wtih his 1805 pattern sword, straight fullered blade 28”, with traces of etching, regulation brass stirrup hilt, the langets engraved with fouled anchor, plain pommel and grooved backstrap, wirerbound fishskin grip, in its brass mounted leather scabbard, QGC; with vendor’s note showing family descent of picture and sword. Note: This item requires further research; it is sold with a family tree. A John Searle commanded HMS Victory from 28th January 1808 to 22nd March 1808 and 20th November 1808 to 3rd February 1809
A Third Reich naval officer’s sword, pipe back blade 31¾” by Eickhorn, brass hilt with lion’s head pommel and folding shell guard, wire bound ivory coloured celluloid covered grip, in its brass mounted leather scabbard, the hilt numbered N748, the scabbard numbered N322. Basically GC (slightly worn overall)
A Third Reich Police dress bayonet, 5½” only of the blade present, by Alcoso, Solingen, the WM hilt with eagle head pommel, oak leaf crosspiece, and staghorn grips with police badge, in its scabbard, the crosspiece and scabbard both marked “SM III.1161”, GC (scabbard leather worn); also a Fire Department dummy dress bayonet, blade 9¾”, with plated hilt and chequered black plastic grips. GC (some wear and rust to plating). (2)
An interesting Vic RN officer’s sword with claymore blade, c 1870 , blade 29½”, by G G Rout High St, Portsmouth, etched with crowned fouled anchor and crowned R. Arms with supporters, in elaborately scrolled panels, regulation brass hilt with crowned fouled anchor, turn down inner portion which locks to scabbard, lion’s head pommel and backstrap, wirebound sharkskin grip, in its brass mounted brown leather scabbard (seam unstitched). GC (minor wear). Plate 10
A Geo naval officer’s service sword c 1810, plain curved, pipe backed blade 29½”, copper gilt stirrup hilt, the embossed shield shaped langets with crowned fouled anchor in border, flattened lion’s head pommel and facetted backstrap, chequered darkwood grip, in its leather scabbard with copper gilt locket, middle band and chape, 2 rings. Basically GC for age, retaining approx 20% gilt overall, (small heavy pitting patches to blade edges, scabbard leather repaired) Plate 10
A Geo V officer’s sword of the Indian Navy, very slightly curved blade 31½” by E Thurkle, Maker, London, etched with crowned star over fouled anchor with scrolled fenestrated panels, regulation copper gilt hilt incorporating crowned fouled anchor on star with turn down inner portion which locks to scabbard, lion’s head pommel and backstrap, wirebound sharkskin grip, in its black leather scabbard with engraved gilt mounts. Near VGC, the blade, hilt and mounts retaining much original finish. Plate 10

A good French gladius type sidearm, hollow ground, shallow diamond section swollen blade 19”, with “Talabot FS 1832 Paris” on one side at forte and clear ordnance stamps on the other, regulation solid brass hilt with ribbed grip, in its brass mounted leather scabbard. In unusually good condition for this type of sidearm. Plate 11

A Geo V Indian Army 1897 pattern infantry officer’s sword, straight fullered blade 32½”, by Wilkinson, no 53078 (for 1917) on backstrap, etched with crowned R Arms, GRI cypher and wreath on each side within scrolled, floral panels, regulation plated hilt incorporating crowned GRI, wirebound fishskin grip (worn patch at pommel), in its leather FS scabbard. GC retaining much original blade polish and hilt plating (a few minor rust patches, scabbard frog strap missing)
An 1821 pattern light cavalry officer’s sword, slightly curved, fullered blade 33”, by Wilkinson, no 25456 (for 1883) on backstrap, etched with crowned VR cypher within scrolled fenestrated panels, regulation steel hilt with sideloop, knucklebow and 2 sidebars, stepped pommel, chequered backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in an associated steel scabbard marked 1/38 MX/RV (dented) with a post 1902 RN officer’s leather waistbelt and slings. GC (light pitting to hilt and scabbard).
