A Japanese tanto with lacquer scabbard, Meiji eraIndistinctly signed, the tsuka with partial bindings remaining over fishskin panels, the kashira and fuchi cast with rolling waves, the bronze tsuba edged with rolling waves between plain seppa, the dark brown lacquer scabbard decorated with gilt birds in flight.8in (20cm) blade, total length 36cmPoor condition throughout. Lacking elements to scabbard. Lacking bindings. Most of the metal fittings are loose. A few small nibbles to the blade tip.

Ca. 100 AD.An iron pugio, or squat triangular dagger with prominent midrib and narrow, flat guard and an integral handle with a lobed pommel. A bulge in the handle would allow for greater grip. The handle still has some of the origibal wood preserved inside! This dagger comes with its beautiful scabbard complete with tassel-like ornaments, and a round chape. The pugio was a sidearm used by Roman soldiers as well as by civilians such as senators or other prominent citizens for self-defense. The weapon is best suited for short, stabbing motions, which would have deadly effects. Ca. 900-1000 AD.A hand-forged Viking iron sword with Brazil nut pommel and decorated guard; the blade is wide at the upper end, gently tapering with fuller to both faces, rounded tip, fragments of an original scabbard in two sections, the first section with stylised motifs and a solid silver sleeve. Pommel of Petersen's Type S with traces of vertical inlaid wire. See: Peirce, I. Swords of the Viking Age, Woodbridge, 2002, p.106-7 for type. The item comes with an academic report written by Russel Scott; famous lecturer, reenactor and expert of Viking and medieval artefacts.
