HAGGARD OF WEST BRADENHAM HALL IN THE COUNTY OF NORFOLK ESQR BY HIS FELLOW PARISHIONERS AS A MARK OF ESTEEM AND AFFECTION ON THE OCCASION OF HIS JOINING THE EAST NORFOLK REGT OF MILITIA WHEN EMBODIED DECR. 27TH 1854 IN CONSEQUENCE OF THE WAR WITH RUSSIA FOR PERMAMENT AND ACTIVE SERVICE, characteristic gilt brass Gothic hilt incorporating a crowned VR cypher and profusely chased over all with oak leaves and scrolling foliage, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel scabbard. Sold with a folio of research and photographs. It is interesting to note that one element of the inscription mentions the sword was presented in consequence of the war with Russia, given that Haggard was born in St Petersburg in Russia.

Complete with a copy of the Wilkinson Sword register entry, confirming the sword was made for A. G. C. Bruce of the 4th Hussars 26th February 1895. Bruce left the 4th Hussars after a very short period and later was the subject of a libel writ issued by Winston Churchill.

A CLEAN SILVER HILTED SCOTTISH FIELD OFFICER'S SWORD BY WILKINSON, 82cm bright blade with matt ground etched with maker's panel and scrolling thistles, pierced silver hilt decorated with thistles, stamped with London silver hallmarks for 2000, further decorated with the crest of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Centenary Year 2000, wire bound fishskin grip, red faced leather liner, contained in its plated steel scabbard.
AN INTERESTING AND EMOTIVE 1897 PATTERN INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD TO LIEUTENANT ADRIAN ASHBY-SMITH RAOC, 82cm clean blade by Wilkinson, serial no.102544, etched with scrolling foliage, crowned Royal Arms and EIIR cyphers and owner's initials A.J.A-S. 1973, regulation pierced and plated hilt incorporating a crowned EIIR cypher, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its field service scabbard. Sold with a small folder of research detailing the exploration activities of Lieutenant Ashby-Smith which include the discovery and naming of a new species of fish Ctenopoma Ashbysmithi on the 1974-1975 Zaire River Expedition. Other expeditions saw his inexhaustible enthusiasm and resourcefulness earn him the DGOS Medallion for Achievement. This award was given posthumously after he was killed by an exploding volcano while on expedition in Ecuador at the age of 23.
AN 1897 PATTERN INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD TO THE ROYAL FUSILIERS AND THE MIDDLESEX REGIMENT, 83cm blade etched with scrolling foliage and crowned GVR cyphers, and maker's mark for KITCHIN, regulation pierced plated hilt incorporating the Royal cypher and engraved with the owner's name JAS. NORQUOY 1914, wire bound leather covered grip, contained in its field service scabbard, complete with knot. Norquoy joined the Royal Fusiliers in 1914 and was appointed a Lieutenant of Signals in the Middlesex Regiment. In November 1915 he was promoted to Captain and was killed in action on 2nd April 1917 at Souchez River shortly after the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

A GEORGIAN NAVAL DIRK, 41cm flattened diamond section fullered blade etched EDWARD EDWARDS OWEN 1794-1838, characteristic copper gilt hilt with cushion pommel, the reeded ivory grip with engraved central copper band with traces of a rampant lion, contained in its copper gilt mounted leather scabbard. Scabbard leather replaced. There is an Edward Edwards Owen listed as a Lieutenant in 1827 in the Navy List.
