An historically interesting Japanese Samurai Katana Sword, the tsuba with gilt highlighting having raised flower head decoration, the 10 1/8'' long tsuka retained to the 7 1/8'' long nakago having a five character mark by a single mekugi and having ray/shark skin bound with woven braid and featuring a pair of triple floral bloom decorated menuki. 35 1/2'' long overall, the blade 25'' long protected by a leather-bound metal scabbard. This sword was surrendered on 12th September 1945 to the late Louis Hurley who attended the surrender as S.O., R.E. Allied Forces South East Asia at the Municipal Building, Singapore also included is an Album of Photographs taken by the officer, including the arrival of Earl Mountbatten, the signing of the surrender with Japanese generals, a Fly-past of Sunderland Flying boats, etc. plus various newspaper cuttings.

A NAVY OFFICE ARCHITECT’S SHEER PROFILE DRAUGHT FOR THE CONVERSION OF H.M.S. CEYLON TO A TROOPSHIP, C.1811, ink on paper with re-fit outlined in red, annotated on the reverse Ceylon of 38 guns as fitted for a Troop Ship -- 20 x 50in. (51 x 127cm.) framed and glazed; together with a Georgian land-pattern sword in scabbard (poor condition), (2), Built by Pitcher of Northfleet for the East India Company and launched as Bombay 27th April, 1803, she was re-named Ceylon in 1808. Captured by the French frigates Bellone, Minerve and Victor in July 1810 and taken to Mauritius and used as a prison ship, she was re-captured when the British took Mauritius in December 1810 and sold to the Royal Navy in 1811, which refitted her for use as a troop transport, in which capacity she was employed between 1813 and 1815. She was laid up between 1816 and 1832 when she was hulked at Malta and used as a receiving ship until sold from the service in 1857.
An 1825 pattern British military officer`s sword with scabbard, the blade is in very good condition marked Surrey 1st Rifles with Victorian crown and foliage, made by Ediniston, 19 Crale Church Street, London. The shagreen covered wire bound hilt in good condition, both the scabbard and guard, dark age patina and rust.

An Islamic bone, gilt metal and steel sword, 19th century, the steel blade engraved with stylised foliage, the gilt metal guard similarly decorated, the handle surmounted by carved bone and gilt metal finial, 86cm wide; with a further Islamic gilt metal and horn handled cutlas, in gilt metal mounted scabbard, 80cm wide, (2).

Sold on behalf of the executors of Dr John Birch deceased.
