A late 18th/early 19th century short curved sword, with original blue and gilt shaped blade, engraved with floral sprays, shield and spears, with the insignia 'GR' beneath a crown, with pierced shaped guard, checkered ivory grip and lion head pommel, complete with leather and brass bound scabbard, length of blade approx 40cm. A small section of ivory has been replaced to the grip. There are stress cracks to the ivory commensurate with age. General tarnishing to the metalwork throughout. The chain is a replacement. Pitting to the blade which can clearly be seen in the images. General surface wear to the scabbard.

A 1796 pattern light cavalry sabre, with ribbed grip, brass knuckle guard and curved blade, stamped 'Osborn' to the blade back, within all metal brass mounted scabbard, length of blade 76cm. CONDITION REPORT: Grip: some paint worn off, minor pitting, minor wear to the guard. No movement. Historic repair to the scabbard tip. Surface wear to the grip and brass work as you would expect, pitting throughout the blade, heavier in some sections, a few dents to the scabbard and pins holding the end section are missing. Lot 551

A 1796 pattern heavy cavalry sword, with spear point, with wooden grip, pierced guard and blade stamped 'Osborn' to the blade back, with metal scabbard, length of blade 85cm. CONDITION REPORT: PLEASE NOTE: we are unable to post this lot using our own in-house packing and postal service. Please arrange your own packing/courier service. There has been a spliced section of wood where it meets the pommel repaired some time ago. The remaining wood is also cracked and shows signs of age. Heavily pitted steel to the guard and hilt, pitted blade including many nicks along the blade edge. The scabbard is stamped 'Osborn & Co Birmingham' and has some pitting, otherwise appears good with no further obvious faults, damage or restoration.

A 1796 pattern infantry officer's sword, with wirework grip, floral embossed pommel and hinged guard stamped 'B.K.1278R.L.3' and with tapering blade stamped 'GEBR.Weyersberg, Solingen', with metal scabbard, length of blade 80.5cm. General surface wear to the metal work as you would expect. The hinge is slightly loose on the side guard and will not quite stay in the upright position. Surface scratches here also. The edge of the shagreen where it meets the frame is worn in parts, also some tarnishing and sticky residue to the metal mounts. Some light pitting to the blade, light pitting to the scabbard with two holes to the upper section. The scabbard is also inscribed 'F. Holme First L.R.V.'. Replaced section on the end of the scabbard where it meets the sword. This sword is neither painted or plated.

Crude glue repair to the shagreen where areas have been repaired and still some losses, the wirework appears to be replaced. Surface wear to the metalwork and also a split through the metal frame itself, also rather crude fitting where it meets the blade indicating a possible alteration. Heavy pitting to the blade and with a third of the scabbard missing.

Retaining a wrapped ribbon but lacking knot, tarnishing and pitting to the metalwork, the shagreen grip appears ok with only minor surface wear, the hinged sidearm works well, light pitting to the blade. The scabbard has had several crude repairs which are clearly home-made repairs.

A late 18th century naval officer's short sword with shagreen grip, embossed pommel decorated with a lion standing four square, embossed knuckle guard and shell, the hilt embossed with dogs pulling down a stag, the tapering blade with engraved foliate detail, length of blade 55.5cm, with partial leather scabbard. The shagreen grip has a split to the side where is has been applied to the frame, general surface wear as expected. The brass work has some light surface wear but overall in good condition. Light pitting to the blade with some heavy pitting to the end section. The engraved detail is slightly obscured and rubbed but still readable and the scabbard has a painted finish with a few small dents.

The edge of the shagreen is worn in parts, noticeably where it meets the pommel, tarnishing to the metalwork throughout, pitting to the blade and light pitting to the scabbard.

Some minor rubbing and losses to the shagreen at the edges, a rough section to the upper portion of shagreen where it meets the pommel. Some rusting and general surface wear to the metalwork, pitted blade with some rusting throughout. The scabbard has a lacquered or painted finish and has an associated leather belt loop attachment.

Tarnishing to the metalwork, surface wear throughout. Wirework loose to the shagreen grip and missing in parts. Some wear to the raised parts of the shagreen grip, A couple of small edge dents to the knuckle guard, some light pitting to the blade, slightly obscuring with rust at the lower section. The scabbard is significantly pitted and rusted.

Heavy wear to the metalwork including some surface pitting and rust. Discolouration to the shagreen noticeably to the raised parts and this is very worn in areas. Heavy pitting noticeably to the side of the blade that is inscribed 'Royal Artillery' obscuring the decoration. Further pitting throughout. An associated frog is present to the scabbard which itself has significant surface wear and the end of the scabbard is a modern home-made repair.

Lot 635

A 1908 pattern military issued cavalry sword, with checkered leather grip with recessed thumb mould, bowl guard and tapering blade, stamped with military broad swords and 'FED', also '75' beneath a crown and stamped 'P08' to the blade back, and with metal scabbard, length of blade 88cm. CONDITION REPORT: Patina but no pitting, replacement washer, no movement, crack at base of hand guard, scabbard quite bent, blade reasonably straight. Lot 636

A late 19th century dress sword, with scrolling pommel, wirework grip and slightly tapering blade housed in an ornate embossed and leather scabbard, unnamed, length of blade 72cm. General pitting to the blade commensurate with age, some tarnishing to the metalwork, the scabbard has come loose at some stage and been reglued, it feels very dry and shows signs of heavy use. A late 18th/early 19th century dress sword, with all brass grip and guard and engraved steel tapering blade with partial leather brass mounted scabbard, length of blade 77cm. Some tarnishing to the brass work commensurate with age, the guard is slightly misshaped. General pitting to the blade with slight traces of original blueing and gilt. The scabbard is missing the end section and is in poor condition.

Lot 650

A 19th century naval sidearm, with wirework shagreen grip, simple D-guard, tapering blade and metal scabbard, length of blade 43cm. Some pitting and surface wear to the guard. One side of the shagreen is badly rubbed leaving small sections missing to the raised parts and slightly misshaping to the wirework, pitting to the blade, heavy pitting to the scabbard.

Lot 651

A Victorian British naval cutlass, with deep checkered grip, figure of eight guard and slightly tapering blade, stamped 'V.R. Mole', with associated leather scabbard, length of blade 74cm. Light surface ware and pitting to the grip and guard, light pitting to the blade which has not been sharpened, the scabbard is a replacement.

Lot 652

An early 20th century clip point cutlass, with walnut grip, pierced guard and curved blade, stamped 'Hembrug', with leather scabbard, the guard bearing plaque stamped 'P.A.O.754', length of blade 61cm. CONDITION REPORT: PLEASE NOTE: we are unable to post this lot using our own in-house packing and postal service. Please arrange your own packing/courier service. Heavy tarnishing and discolouration to the crude guard, general surface scratches to the wooden grip. Some pitting to the blade and the tip of the blade is very slightly misshapen. Leather scabbard intact with frog, although the end section where it meets the guard is replaced, quote heavy wear to the leather throughout.

A late 19th/early 20th century naval sabre, with wirework shagreen grip, lion head pommel and hinged side guard with slightly curved blade, in leather scabbard, length of blade 74cm. Minor surface wear to the brass and some surface pitting. Some pitting to the blade. The leather work on the scabbard has been crudely stitched and could probably be modern but with the original mounts. Scabbard is inscribed 'Salter, Sword Cutler to H.R.H. The Duke of Sussex, London'.
