British 1897 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword Belonging to Major William Thomas Calderwood who was awarded the OBE for WW2 Home Front Service and Military Cross with Bar for Service During the First World War with the Royal Engineers, standard George V 1897 pattern sword, complete with the original field service scabbard and frog hanging strap. Blade etched with Royal Engineers to one side and crowned cipher to the other. Engraved towards the base of the blade “W J Calderwood RE”. Blade measures 83 ½ cm in length. Some surface staining to the blade and wear to the exterior. William Thomas Calderwood OBE MC & Bar, was born in 1893 in Plumstead, South East London. Educated at the West Ham Technical Institute and gaining a degree in Engineering at the University of London in 1913. He gained a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 105th Field Company Royal Engineers and served on the Western Front from 4th March 1915. He was awarded the Military Cross in 1917, “For conspicuous gallantry in action. With four men he traced under rifle and shell fire, a length of 300 yards of front line, joining two advanced posts which had been captured the previous day”. His bar to the Military Cross appeared in the London Gazette on 30th July 1919, “T/Lt (A/Capt) William Thomas Calderwood MC 63rd Fd Coy RE. He commanded the field company which constructed the bridges over the Lys at Cuerne on the night of October 17th/18th, 1918, to enable an infantry brigade to be relieved. With great coolness and energy he kept up the work under heavy fire and led his transport through the village, which was being heavily shelled, keeping at the same time such a grasp on the situation that he saved his company a large number of casualties and enabled the bridge to be constructed an infantry relieved.” After the war he became chief Engineer to Messrs Hadley and Company, in 1923 he was made Managing Director of the firm. He took a keen interest in local politics, now in the North East of England. He became a City Councillor for Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1938. November 1940 he was made Deputy Lord Mayor. He was a member of the Newcastle Upon Tyne ARP Emergency committee and was appointed commandant of the Newcastle Auxiliary Fire Service which he was largely responsible for its formation and organisation, it was for this that he was awarded the O.B.E in the New Years Honour list of 1941. He died in 1942.

Housed in its brown leather field service scabbard with sam browne hanging strap. Blade etched with crowned monogram and panel which is engraved in gothic script “2nd Lieut Harold Creswick Dangworth 3rd East Yorks Regt”. Blade has Hawksworth Sheffield retailers mark to the base of the blade. Some wear to the blade but generally still in good condition.

Victorian British Royal Navy 1827 Pattern Officers Sword, standard pattern Naval officers sword with lion head top, large dish guard with crowned fouled anchor to the centre, fish skin grip with wire binding. Fold down guard to the reverse, engraved “G J Mills Esq R.N”. Complete with its original brass mounted leather scabbard. Retailers trade mark insignia to the reverse of the top scabbard mount. Blade etched with foliage and crowned fouled anchor. Seagrove Portsea retailers mark to the base of the blade. Blade 76 cm in length. Some staining to the blade and edge nicks, some stitching faults to the reverse of the scabbard.

Double edged blade with By Appointment to HM Queen Elizabeth II Sword Cutlers and Wilkinson Sword makers panel. Blade measures 17 ½ cm in length. Housed in its original brown leather scabbard with nickel silver lower chape and elasticated strap to the top of the leg attachment. Scabbard would fit a 1st pattern commando knife.

Housed in brass mounted leather scabbard. Piped back blade which measures 61cm in length. Some surface staining to the blade. Small section of the blade exposed when sat in the scabbard due to leather shrinkage.

Imperial German Mauser 98/05 Sawback Bayonet, very good example of an Imperial German “Butcher” bayonet complete with the original brown wooden grips. Metal scabbard retains some of the original finish. Waffenfabrik Mauser makers mark to the top of the scabbard. Sawback blade with “Waffenfabrik Mauser A.G Oberndorf a.i” to the base. Spine of the bayonet is stamped with crowned W 17 and acceptance stamp. Blade measures 36 ½ cm in length. Good example overall.

Royal Dublin Fusiliers Regimentally Marked 1907 Bayonet, standard type example with stamping to the top pommel “5.D F 318”. Wooden grips remain in good condition. Housed in the original leather and steel mounted scabbard. Blade stamped with acceptance stamps and crowned GR with 1907 date below and Sanderson makers mark. Blade measures 42 ½ cm in length. Accompanied by another 1907 pattern bayonet complete with the original scabbard made by Wilkinson. Both bayonets show some wear and pitting to the exterior fittings but both blades are in good condition. (2 items)

Gurkha Kukri, housed in felt cloth covered scabbard with well worked silver relief decoration of birds, flowers, crossed Kukri’s, animals etc. Handle with brass mounts. Curved single sided blade with engraved decoration. One skinning knife to the back of the scabbard. Blade measures 26cm in length, 38cm total length. Vendor states that this Kukri was presented by Sgt Dane Narayani 10th Gurkha Rifles to Chief Petty Officer Brian Love Royal Navy HMS Albion in Borneo.

Regulation brass hilt with badge in relief, lion head pommel, fish skin grip, bullion dress knot (incomplete), in its leather scabbard with regulation brass mounts, embossed maker’s badge on locket. Good condition.

French Chassepot Bayonet with Leather Scabbard, interesting standard model with St Etienne arsenal mark and date 1872 to the spine. Housed in a German made leather scabbard with brass mounts. Numbers on the bayonet cross guard do not match the numbers on the top scabbard mount. Blade remains in good overall condition, 57cm in length. The German manufacture, Alexander Coppel did manufacture these bayonets for export after the Franco Prussian war. The French examples normally come with steel scabbards.

RAD Leaders Dress Dagger with Original Hanging Straps, excellent example of a RAD labour front officers dress dagger, near perfect ivorine grips to both sides, stylised eagle head top with cross guard having organisation insignia to the centre. Housed in its original scabbard which is also in very good condition with no major dents or plating lifting. Near mint condition blade with much of the original finish and motto “Arbeit adelt”. Base of the blade with Alcoso Solingen makers trade mark. Correct pattern brown leather hanging straps with felt backing, original metal clips and buckle fittings. Bottom clips marked with DRGM to the reverse. Overall a fine condition set.

Afghan Army Officers Sword Shamshir, curved single edge blade etched with Islamic inscription dated AH1314 (=1904 AD) amidst extensive foliage, brass crosspiece with British union flowers in relief, hardwood grips, in its brass scabbard with mounts cast in relief with the union flowers, twin suspension rings, blade 31.25”. Good condition (tops of grips possibly restored).

Some minor scuffing to the leather covering and minor marks to the exterior fittings but overall a good example.

Housed in the original scabbard with small leather single hanging strap attached to the top ring. Blade with motto “Meine Ehre Heist Treue” and trade mark to the base of the reverse Boker Solingen. Some surface staining to the blade and wear to the scabbard finish but otherwise a good example made by a scarcer maker.

Dish pattern cross guard decorated with hunting scene relief. Black leather covered scabbard with gilt metal fittings. Single sided blade with etched hunting scene panels to both sides. Makers trade mark to the base being a Z within crowned shield. Some light staining to the blade but otherwise good condition.

Black knotted leather sword knot attached. Housed in a black painted steel scabbard. Single edged blade etched with foliage, VR crowned monogram and strung bugle with Rifle Volunteers. Robert Mole & Sons retailers mark to the base of the blade. Some surface staining and edge nicks to the blade. The blade measures 82cm in length.

Housed in its original brown leather scabbard with metal clip fitting to the reverse and securing strap to the top. Double edged blade which remains in near mint condition. Underneath the cross guard is stamped “LE COMMANDO MARQUE & MODELE DEPOSES SUPER-NOGENT”. Very good example.

PUMA Solingen makers mark to the base of the blade, obscured by the cross guard. Overall a very good example of a German Army officers dress dagger.

Guard retains the original press button. Attached to the handle is Kriegsmarine issue gold portepee. Standard pattern scabbard with two hanging rings. Blade remains in mint condition with etched sailing ship decoration. Base of the blade has PUMA Solingen makers mark. Puma made very few Kriegsmarine daggers so as a result these are highly sort after. Very good example.
