OF TRAFALGAR INTEREST - A LATE 18TH CENTURY FRENCH NAVAL OFFICER'S SWORD, 77cm curved blade sharpened for use, slotted steel hilt with shaped edges, fittings for folding attack guard, now lacking, wire bound leather covered grip, contained in its brass mounted leather scabbard. Scabbard leather parted and worn in places, now taped, together with a fragment of wood applied with labels - SWORD CAPTURED 21ST OCTOBER 1805 ABOARD FRENCH MAN-O-WAR INTREPIDE. THIS BEING A FRAGMENT OF THAT VESSEL. The Intrepide was a 74-Gun vessel captained by Louis-Antoine Infernet and while initially not directly involved in the start of the action at Trafalgar they eventually joined the fray and surrendered later in the day badly damaged and having suffered heavy losses.
A 19TH CENTURY GILT HILTED SMALL-SWORD, 81cm triangular section incurved plain blade, characteristic gilt hilt with ovoid guard, postcode mark to underside, D-shaped knuckle guard, urn form pommel, the whole decorated with panels of scrolling foliage and flowerheads, guard with slight twist, contained in its gilt mounted vellum covered scabbard. Wear to vellum below throat.
AN IMPERIAL GERMAN OFFICER'S SWORD, 83cm curved blade etched with panels of scrolling foliage faded and rubbed, regulation steel stirrup hilt, copper wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its repainted steel scabbard, stamped 10.T.E.191, together with two further examples with repainted steel scabbards. The first sword grip rebuilt and wired with brass screw button. (3)
A CLEAN IMPERIAL GERMAN ARTILLERY OFFICER'S SWORD, 84cm clean blade by WKC, etched with scrolling foliage, horses' heads, crossed cannon, an officer on horseback, and artillery train and the unit title Gross. Mecklbg Feldart Rgt No.60, further etched with scrolling foliage along part of the back edge, plated steel stirrup hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its plated steel scabbard complete with knot, together with a similar plain sword by Horster. The former with speckling to the plating on the scabbard. (2)
AN IMPERIAL GERMAN INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD, 84.5cm blade by Eickhorn (?). regulation steel stirrup hilt, the front langet engraved with the initials PB, wire bound celluloid grip, contained in its black painted steel scabbard, together with a Third Reich example by Alcoso, contained in its black painted steel scabbard, both with knots. The second sword possibly a later copy. (2)
A 19TH CENTURY VENEZUELAN GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS SWORD, 78cm flattened diamond section clean blade decorated with scrolling foliage and stands of arms, characteristic gilt hilt, the foliate-pierced shell guard decorated with a coat of arms, neoclassical decorated D-shaped knuckle guard and pommel, two-piece mother-o'-pearl grips, contained in its gilt mounted leather scabbard.
A ROYAL NAVAL OFFICER'S SWORD, 79.5cm blade etched with oak leaves and ropes, crowned fouled anchor and the Royal arms, regulation brass hilt incorporating a crowned fouled anchor, folding side guard, lion's head pommel, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its engraved brass mounted leather scabbard. Hilt and mounts with gold paint.
AN INTERESTING LATE 18TH OR EARLY 19TH CENTURY CUTLASS, 55.5cm curved fullered blade, three-bar brass hilt with D-shaped knuckle guard incorporating an A emblem, cracked, contained in its brass mounted leather scabbard, generally worn, scabbard in two and patination to blade, together with a shortened 1805 pattern Naval Officer's sword, 62.5cm blade decorated with scrolling foliage and a globe and crossed swords, patinated and tip rounded, regulation copper gilt stirrup hilt, the langets decorated with fouled anchors, lion's mask pommel, ribbed ivory grip, cracked and chipped, contained in its copper gilt leather scabbard, stud replaced and leather taped. A FIRST PATTERN LUFTWAFFE OFFICER'S DAGGER TO HEINZ BAR, 30.75cm flattened diamond section blade with Waffenamt mark and SOLINGEN SMF at the forte, regulation nickle hilt with wire bound leather covered grip, contained in its nickle mounted blue leather wrapped scabbard, complete with hanging chain, together with a photo postcard and a photograph of Heinz Bar (Baer). By descent the property of Heinz Bar who was credited with in excess of 220 victories, 16 of which were in the jet powered ME262. He was the highest scoring NCO during the Battle of Britain.
A GOOD 19TH CENTURY BURMESE DHA, 40cm slightly curved blade, characteristic hilt with broad white metal collar decorated over all with filigree work interspersed with green, yellow and blue enamels, the carved ivory handle decorated with four surmounted god-like figures (Hanuman?) contained in its white metal mounted wrapped wooden scabbard decorated with filigree work, some losses to wrap.
A 19TH CENTURY BURMESE DHA, 61cm curved clean blade with dual tip, finely decorated with a panel of silvered scrolling foliage containing the figure of a huntsman chasing a mythical beast, further decorated to the back edge with a panel of geometric designs and calligraphy in silver, characteristic brass wrapped hilt, contained in its brass mounted wooden scabbard.
A MID 19TH CENTURY OTTOMAN OR TURKISH YATAGHAN, 60cm recurved fullered blade chiselled and reeded along the back edge, inlaid in silver to either side with panels "We Seek Intercession of Prophet Mohammed - This Sword Belongs to Mohamed Agha - God Willed It AH1267 (1851) - I Put My Trust in Allah" chiselled and pierced gilt reinforcing straps, characteristic hilt decorated to match, two-piece long-eared marine ivory grips, contained in its embossed brass mounted leather wrapped wooden scabbard.
A FINE AND UNUSUAL 19TH CENTURY KINDJAL, 42.75cm broad blade, 6.75cm, with offset double fullers and struck with a maker's mark to either side, the feather carved wooden crossguard with plated eagle's head terminals, tri-horn grip with white metal mounts, contained in its foliate engraved white metal mounted leather wrapped wooden scabbard.
