An Islamic Ottoman Yemenite Jambiya dagger / Khanjar with a metal mounted horn handle in a leather covered wooden scabbard. Overall length dagger: 32cm. The blade: 21cm of good quality, double edge with central rib. The grip is probably rhino horn decorated with steel nails and brass coins, mounted with silver collar. Late 19th-early 20th century AD. A narrow single-edged blade with curved tip, engraved ram's head to one face and to the other a ram's head attacked by a lion cub; hollow-formed repoussé silver hilt with scrolled guard and curved beast-head pommel with a fish in the mouth, scales to the neck, panel with advancing beast to one face, lion pouncing on an ibex to the other; scabbard with scene of a fight between two felines to one face, feline pouncing on a fleeing ram and hare to the other face. 196 grams, 29cm (11 1/4"). Private collection, London, UK; formerly with Persepolis Gallery, Mayfair, London, UK in the 1980s. Fine condition.
20th century AD. A mandau sword used by the Orang Ulu of East Borneo comprising a thick D-section single-edged blade with brass inlaid patterns to one face, copper-bound bone grip with notch detailing, plumes of hair; wooden scabbard with coloured cord and hide binding; with the accompanying langei puai knife, a short iron blade set in a long wooden grip, with hide scabbard, bead dangles and hair plumes. 1.1 kg, 54-78cm excluding plumes (21 1/4 - 30 3/4"). Ex Buddle collection; acquired 1990s. [No Reserve, 2] Fine condition.
A SCOTTISH DIRK with a carved wood handle, white metal mounts and leather scabbard, by Andrew Orrock, apprentice cutler in the incorporation of Hammermen in the conglomerate of Edinburgh in 1722, admitted a Freeman in 1733. The blade impressed 'Orrock', mid 18th century, 18", and one other matching Dirk, probably a late 19th century copy of the earlier example.
