A Russian 1855 model naval officer’s sword, pipe backed blade 31 1/2in. and double edged for the last 9in., etched decoration to the back and sides incorporating warships and fouled anchors, gilt brass hilt, guard formed of a knuckle bow with two oval section side bars, scrolled back quillon, lozenge shaped langets, the inner one having engraved initials, back strap and pommel of one piece, wire bound grip, gilt brass mounted leather scabbard.
An R.A.F. College Cranwell ‘Sword of Honour’, being that which was won by future Air Commodore J.N.M. Pike KCB DSO DFC (see lot 7), slender 1895 type blade with etched decoration incorporating the dedication ‘Sword of Honour/ Flight Cadet Under-Officer J.N.M. Pike/ Royal Air Force College Cranwell 30th July 1937’, regulation hilt with R.A.F. badge to the guard and eagle pommel, wire bound fishskin grip, gilt brass mounted leather scabbard, complete with sword belt. A basket hilted back sword, single edged blade 32in., double edged for the last six in., three narrow fullers to each side - the back two extending from the hilt to the end of the single edged part of the blade, the forwardmost extending almost to the tip af the blade but stopping short of the hilt and being overlapped by a further short fuller covering the forte only; basket formed of flattened oval-section bars and incorporating two discs, heavy pommel, the hilt with relief decoration allover, lacks grip and scabbard, possibly 17th Century.
An unusual bowie knife, clip backed bronze blade 5 3/4in., various marks including a broad arrow, brass cross piece and staghorn grip, leather scabbard, possibly intended for use in magazines or mining; together with a large bowie knife, clip backed blade 12in., horseshoe maker’s mark, staghorn grip, lacks scabbard.
