Break in scabbard and covering just above the chape, slight movement to pommel.

A VERY RARE CARLIST WAR PERIOD 2ND REGIMENT OF THE QUEEN'S OWN IRISH LANCERS OFFICER'S SWORD BY PROSSER, 80.5cm curved pipe backed blade with spear point, etched with crossed lances and 2, crowned IR cypher, crowned Spanish Arms, and two maker's panels for Prosser, regulation scrolling brass hilt, incised with the owner's initial AM, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel scabbard. During the Carlist War, Queen Isabella II of Spain was sent the British Auxilliary Legion to support her in 1835. The Legion eventually totalled some 10,000 men under the command of Sir George De Lacy Evans but by 1837 they numbered just 1,500 having suffered defeat at Hernani, Vitoria and heavily so at Oriamendi. There were just two regiments of Cavalry serving with the Legion the 2nd Regiment of the Queen's Irish Lancers and the 1st Reina Isabel Lancers. One Cavalry officer with the initials AM served with the 1st but the fighting was so ferocious, prisoners rarely taken by the Spanish and coupled with a lack of supplies one could surmise it was probably carried by him.
