A Third Reich Army officer’s sword, plated blade 33¾”, by Alcoso, Solingen, the hilt of steel retaining faint traces of gilt, with eagle and swastika crosspiece, oak leaf knucklebow and backstrap, and lion’s head pommel with red glass eyes, with wire bound black plastic covered grip. GC (no scabbard, slight wear and staining).
An early 19th century Irish Militia officer’s presentation sword of the Creggan Infantry, curved, shallow fullered blade 30” marked “Osborns” and “Warranted” in scrolls on one side with trophy of arms, ornate crowned GR cypher, and figure of Justice, and on the other side with 1801-16 R Arms and mottoes, presentation inscription in scrolls “This sword was presented by the Non Commissioned Officers and Privates of the Creggan Infantry to their Commanding Officer, Christopher Crawley, Esqre as a small but genuine Testimony of their Esteem”, and trophy of arms, all in foliate panels, gilt brass stirrup hilt, the recessed crossguard, quillon and langets embossed with stylized foliage, plain engraved knucklebow (replaced) lion’s head pommel and backstrap, wirebound ivory grip (few small cracks and chips), in its tooled leather scabbard with panelled locket (frog stud missing), middle band and chape, with 2 rings. GC, the hilt and scabbard mounts retaining approx 15% original gilt (minor wear to blade) Plate 6 Note: The Creggan Volunteer Militia was formed in County Cork in 1796 with Capt. Christopher Crawley as its Commanding Officer
A Geo V officer’s sword of The Royal Artillery, straight fullered blade 32”, etched with crown, R Arms without supporters GVR cypher and wreath on one side and winged lightning with “Royal Artillery” and cannon on the other, all in scrolled, fenestrated panels, regulation plated (dull) triple bar hilt, plain pommel, chequered backstrap, with leather knot, in its leather (worn and torn) FS scabbard, with Sam Browne belt, frog, revolver holster and lanyard, cartridge pouch and shoulder strap. A Household Cavalry officer’s levee dress sword, c 1840, straight, fullered blade 33” (tip slightly shortened) with maker’s name “Andrews 9 Pall Mall London” in etched panel on one side at forte, gilt semi boat shell hilt (the inner portion of the guard officially removed), reinforced edge, upswept quillon, the guard screwed into ball pommel, silver wirebound grip, in a non matching brass mounted leather scabbard. GC, the blade retaining much original polish.

A Vic 1897 pattern Indian Army infantry officer’s sword, very slightly curved, fullered blade 33”, by E Thurkle, Maker, Soho, London, etched on both sides with flat topped crowned VR cypher in scrolled fenestrated panels, with owner’s initials A.S.H.T. in scroll at forte, pierced plated (some wear) hilt, the guard incorporating crowned VR & I cypher, stepped pommel, chequered backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its steel scabbard (kinked, some pitting) with 2 rings. GC, the blade retaining much original finish.
A late Vic officer’s sword of a Rifle Regiment, straight fullered blade 32½”, by Wilkinson, no 36264 on backstrap (for 1899), etched on both sides with crowned R Arms without supporters, reversed and interlaced VR cypher, and wreath, in foliate panels, with owner’s crest of a demi lion and motto “Nobilis Ira” on one side, regulation plated steel hilt incorporating crowned strung bugle, plain pommel, chequered backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its plated scabbard. GC, the blade retaining virtually all original finish (hilt and scabbard plating rust bubbled). Plate 7
A good Volunteer officer’s sword, c 1798, of Lieut Col Kearsley, curved, shallow fullered blade 30½”, blued and gilt all round at forte, with “Lieut. Col. Kearsley” on backstrap, “Dawes Birmingham” on floral panel on one side, and “Warranted” in similar panel on the other, plainly etched for remainder of blade with trophy of arms, pre 1801 R Arms and supporters, and figure of Justice on one side, and wreath, crowned ornate GR cypher and Britannia standing, on the other, gilt stirrup hilt with crossguard and quillon, sideloop enclosing a grenade (small fracture), facetted knucklebow into lion’s head pommel and facetted backstrap, wirebound ivory grip (2 tiny chips at top), in its tooled and panelled leather scabbard with gilt locket and frog stud, middle band and chape, with 2 rings. A Third Reich Army officer’s sword, plated blade 33” with Eickhorn mark, the brass hilt engraved with eagle and swastika on the langet and oak leaves and acorns on the knucklebow, backstrap and pommel, the replacement grip of wire bound black painted wood, in its steel scabbard with portepee. Generally GC (worn, the hilt refitted). Possibly a composite piece.
A naval officer’s dirk c 1795, shallow diamond section blade 13½”, with pronounced central fuller, copper gilt hilt with flattened S shaped crossguard with bud terminals, border engraved lower band, middle band and turret pommel to rectangular section lined ivory grip with flattened corners, in its leather scabbard with gilt locket, middle band and chape, 2 suspension rings. Near VGC for age, the mounts retaining approx 85% original gilt. Plate 5
A Brazilian cavalry trooper’s sword, c 1935, slightly curved, shallow fullered blade 32½”, with maker’s “Marca Registrada” AEC in triangle at forte, solid semi basket steel guard incorporating, in a circle, the arms of the republic with “Estados Unides do Brasil 15 de Nov de 1889” (the date of its foundation), plain pommel, dark chequered composition grips, in its scabbard with loop and single ring. VGC, and evidently unissued, retaining much original blackened finish and store’s grease.
A Vic General officer’s mameluke hilted sword, curved flat blade 30½”, by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, etched with crowned VR cypher, wreaths and crossed baton and sword on one side, and crowned VR cypher, blank scrolled panel and rosettes on the other, all in foliate panels, ornamental gilt crossguard and langets incorporating crossed baton and sword, ivory grips with gilt rosettes and backstrap, swordknot (replaced), no scabbard. GC, retaining approx 90% hilt gilt (blade cleaned over light pitting) Plate 6
A 1796 pattern Light Cavalry troopers sword, curved, shallow fullered blade 32½”, marked I Gill on backstrap and with clear crown/5 inspector’s stamp at forte, steel stirrup hilt with langets, plain knucklebow and backstrap with ears to ribbed grip, in its steel scabbard with 2 rings. GC, the blade retaining traces of original finish (tiny edge nicks towards point, dark rust patina to scabbard). Plate 6
A Vic 1845 pattern infantry officer’s sword, very slightly curved, fullered blade32½”, by Wilkinson, no 7429 (for 1855) on backstrap, etched with crowned VR cypher in tightly scrolled panels on both sides, and owner’s name “Lieutenant Henry St Maur Wynch” in scrolls near forte, regulation brass hilt incorporating crowned VR cypher, stepped pommel, plain backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in associated brass scabbard (sword does not fully enter) with 2 rings. Basically GC (worn overall, scabbard dented)
A late 18th century RN officer’s 5 ball hilted sword, curved, shallow fullered blade 24½”, with back fuller, evidently shortened during its working life, brass stirrup hilt with crossguard, quillon and 5 ball side loop enclosing pierced fouled anchor, 5 ball knucklebow, stepped flattened urn pommel, fluted ivory grip with central band and oval engraved with crowned fouled anchor, in leather scabbard with brass locket, middle band 2 rings and frog stud (lower part and chape missing). GC for age with traces of gilt.
An Imperial German infantry officer’s sword, plated pipe backed blade 30”, with knight’s head mark on one side at forte and W. Clauberg, Solingen on the other, pierced plated semi basket scrolled guard, forward sloping stepped pommel, plain backstrap with thumb piece, wirebound fishskin grip, in its plated (lightly bubbled and worn) scabbard with 2 rings. A French cuirassier broadsword, double fullered blade 37½”, marked “Mfture Imple du Klingenthal Octobre 18”(? last two unclear) on backstrap, ordnance stamps at forte, brass hilt, the guard without reinforced edge, knucklebow and 3 sidebars, with stamps, plain cap shaped pommel, leather grips, in its steel scabbard (AF). Basically GC (worn overall)
