Comprising: A Model 1840 Musician's Sword by Ames and dated 1863. Straight blade, brass hilt and black leather scabbard with brass mounts. Excellent condition, blade retains at least 95% of original polish and has good markings, scabbard mounts and hilt retain an unpolished patina, leather on scabbard is excellent with a few minor scuffs. Also, a Model 1860 Staff and Field Officer's Sword by National Armory, straight blade with an eagle etched on one side with military motifs and scrolls, the other with "US" and military motifs. Cast brass hilt with eagle on guard and pommel, shark skin grip wrapped with brass wire, and nickel scabbard with brass cast mounts. Good condition, blade very good with a couple minor nicks and freckling, scabbard with brown patina and hilt unpolished. Masonic sword marked "HORSTMANN/PHILADELPHIA" on left side of nickel and gold washed etched blade, also marked "Patriarchs Militant" and "E.L. Thomas" with etched scenes on both sides. Unique hilt with cast gilt brass serpentine hilt and pommel with world globe and crown, nickel scabbard with relief gilt brass cast mounts. Excellent condition; showing little use or wear. Comprising a 1906 Cavalry saber by Ames and dated 1906 in very good condition, blade bright with some minor surface freckling, scabbard and steel hilt retain a grey surface with some light rust, leather wrapped grip with some minor losses. Also, a German imported Cavalry NCO sword with nickel plated Hilt with American eagle and nickel scabbard, polished blade with etched panels of scrolls, an American eagle, and on the other side, scrolls and large "U.S." and makers mark "CLAUBERG/SOLINGEN", spine acid etched "IRON PROOF". Excellent condition, blade nearly mint, yellow patina on hilt and scabbard, a few darker areas. Three cavalry blades, one an 1865 dated Mansfield and Lamb, one stamped with a beehive, and one with worn marks, all good condition with some dark spots and/or surface rust. Comprising: French Model 8122 light cavalry officer's saber. Curved single fuller blade, one side marked with French proofs and the spine inscribed with French Model 1822 markings. Brass hilt adorned with cast designs of branches. Horn grip with braided wire missing between sections. Steel scabbard. Very good condition; blade retains 90-95% original polish with some scabbard wear. Hilt retains an unpolished patina, grip is excellent and scabbard retains a grey patina. An 1878 French bayonet with scabbard in good to very good condition, a German bayonet in fair condition, with scabbard and frog, and a Nepalese Kukri in very good condition, with scabbard, but missing two small knives. Complete with brown leather wrapped scabbard and brown leather sword knot. Excellent condition; a few light storage marks. B) Pattern 1821 Victorian Officer's Sword. Slightly curved single fuller blade, spine stamped 11013, right side of blade with etched panels of wings and ornate scrolls above a prancing lion and "VERITE SANS PEUR" and initials "WBH". Left side with large crown over stylized intertwined "VR" surrounded by ornate scrolls, top marked "HENRY/WILKINSON/PALL MALL/LONDON". Shark skin wrapped grip, three branch steel guard with checkered panel ion spine. Steel scabbard with German silver throat. Very good condition; blade excellent with light grey patina, grip missing wire wrap and has a few scuffs, hilt and scabbard retain a pitted brown patina. Blade Length-Largest: 32 - 1/4"; Overall Length-Largest: 39 - 1/2";

Piped spine on slightly curved steel blade, etched with a crown over intertwined "VR" in a panel and oak leaves and acorns in another on right side, left side etched with "J. GIBBONS/Canterbury" and a large crown over "VR". Steel hilt with two branches and shark skin grip with braided brass wire, steel scabbard. Good condition; blade excellent with a few minor grey areas, scabbard and hilt with grey patina and some light to medium pitting overall, grip with some losses. B) Victorian Warwickshire Rifle Volunteers Officer's saber. Slightly curved single fuller steel blade. Pierced steel semi-basket guard engraved with oak leaves, acorns and large crown over "VR" and "WARWICKSHIRE/RIFLE/VOLUNTEERS" in a banner. Shark skin grip wrapped with three types of braided silver wire. Steel scabbard. Good condition; blade cleaned, some areas of pitting, hilt has been cleaned, pommel and guard have been cleaned, excellent markings, inside of guard rusty. Scabbard does not fit completely on sword, although it is correct, presumably, due to rust on inside of scabbard. Blade Length-36", ?; Overall Length-42 - 1/2", 40";

Comprising: A) Triangular tapered steel blade decorated with engraved designs typical of the period. Oval iron guard with chiseled pie-crust border and diamond sectioned steel pommel. Grip wrapped with thin copper and strands of braided copper wire. Good condition; dark patina overall with some scattered marks from use. B) Knight's Templar Masonic presentation sword. Etched and gold washed blade presented to "C.O. Sahler" and made by "McLilley/& Co./Columbus/Ohio" Nickel plated scabbard, hilt, and knight's head pommel. Black painted wood grip. Brass hilt with lion's head pommel, two branches on left side and shark skin grip wrapped with brass wire. Complete with nickel plated scabbard with relief cast brass mounts. Reverse of guard embossed "U/R". Excellent condition, some patina on brass and light freckling of surface rust on blade and scabbard. B) Model 1860 Staff and Field Officer's Sword, Tapered steel blade, one side etched with "K.C. Bradford" in a pane, the other with "F.C.Y.D. Association" in a panel and top marked "AMES MFG./Co/CHICOPEE/MASS." Brass hilt with cast arms on both sides of knuckle bow and an eagle on guard and pommel. Complete with nickel plated scabbard with brass mounts and chain hanger. Very good condition, gilt excellent on hilt, blade shows some wear and light freckling, scabbard shows some light surface patina. C) Mameluke-hilted U.S. Marine Corps Officer's Sword. Curved single fuller steel blade, nickel plated with etched panels, one side "UNITED STATES MARINES" in a panel surrounded by scrolls with 5-pointed star maker's mark at top marked "PROVED" in gilt center. The other side with etched panels reading "UNITED STATES MARINES" and "Philip E. Lacy" in panels surrounded by American flag and Marine insignia. Spine etched with florals and marked "USMC App. Serial #322." Two piece tan plastic grips, gilt brass hilt with acorn finials and languettes. Nickel plated scabbard with brass mounts. Excellent condition with a few light storage marks. Blade Length-(A)35 - 1/2", (B)30", (C)32 - 1/2"; Overall Length-(A)42", (B)35 - 1/2" (C)38 - 3/4";

Straight steel blade with pierced and filed decoration at the top with two overlaid silver bands with scroll engraving. Sectioned silver grip with wire decoration and Large carved ivory pommel. Two piece wood scabbard with braided wicker wraps. Excellent condition, blade with a few nicks and marks from use, grip and pommel excellent, scabbard very good with scattered marks, separated at seams. C) Persian parade ax with brass elephant. Polished straight tapered double edged diamond section with deep single fuller on each side. Marked at top on right side "U.S." and small stamp below. Other side stamped "L.F. / (large flaming bomb Ordnance proof) / & C. / 1918". Top of blade fitted with large brown leather washer. Parkerized standard Patton-style guard with three embossed lines. Grip with parkerized and checkered thumbprint panel on top and two piece black hard rubber grips. Complete with original canvas scabbard with green painted steel mounts. Excellent condition; blade is nearly perfect with all of its original polish, showing no use, only a few light marks at tip from scabbard. Hilt retains about 95-98% parkerized finish with a few scuffs on front of guard from storage. Grip and pommel are excellent with a few light marks. Grip screws have almost all of original finish. Scabbard excellent with some scattered staining and dark area directly below top mount. Mounts very good with some discoloration and small areas of paint loss. Blade Length-35"; Overall Length-43 - 1/2";

Comprising: A) Model 11 German Cavalry saber. Wide curved steel blade with large single fuller, heavy steel reverse-P hilt and languettes, front of guard stamped with regimental markings "E12LWR" and left side, above languette stamped "J.M.X.1.42." Leather-wrapped wood grip. Steel Scabbard with two heavy ring mounts. Good condition; grey pitted patina overall. Grip very good with some scuffs on leather. B) Elizabeth II Royal Air Force Officer's eagle pommel sword. Straight tapered single fuller steel blade is un-sharpened and decorated with etched panels of banners, RAF eagle and crown, English Coat of arms and vacant banners. Right side marked at top "BY APPOINTMENT/TO H.M. QUEEN/ELIZABETH II/SWORD/CUTLERS/WILKINSON/SWORD/LTD/MADE IN/ENGLAND". Gilt Brass hilt with large relief Royal Air Force crown over eagle on pierced guard and chiseled crown over "E/II/R" on knuckle bow. Eagle head pommel and shark skin grip with brass wire wrap. Black leather scabbard with brass mounts. Excellent overall with a few minor marks from use. Blade Length-32"; Overall Length-39 - 1/2", 38 - 1/2";

Lot 461

The ornate hammered brass sheath of this sword has a presentation plaque to "Brigadier General Joseph Cappucci, Director OSI USAF with highest esteem and regards from Brigadier General Fabian C. Ver Commanding General PSC". General Ver was the Philippines highest military of commander found guilty of the premeditated killing of senator Venigno Aquino at the Manila Airport on August 21st, 1983. General Cappucci was the OSI director during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1972. Cappucci was a veteran of World War II, member of the eighth Air Force, injured on D-Day. Worked with the OSI beginning in 1957. Both the sword handle and scabbard are a decorated, hand hammered brass. The steel blade measures 28" with an overall length of 37". Sword comes in a specially made walnut presentation case with red lining. Walnut case has a large plaque in lid that reads "Presidential Security Command - Malacanang". Very interesting and ornate memento of the Vietnam War in the special OSI services. Blade Length-28"; Overall Length-37";

Comprising: A) Model 1840 Non-Commissioned Officer's sword. Left side of straight tapered single fuller blade marked "EMERSON/&/SILVER/TRENTON/N.J" and other side stamped "US/McG/1865". Standard brass cast brass hilt, steel scabbard with brass mounts. Good condition; blade retains a spotted grey patina, hilt and brass mounts retain a dark patina, scabbard retains dark brown patina. B) British Pattern 1856 Pioneer's Short saw-back sword with straight saw-back blade marked on left side "WILKINSON/LONDON" and dated "7/95" for 1895, British proofs on both sides. Cast brass hit, black leather scabbard with brass mounts. Very good condition; blade with grey spotted patina and good markings, brass retains a mellow patina with scattered dents and marks, scabbard very good with some cracking, losses to finish, and one area of stitching missing, drag has a few dents. C) Belgian brass-hilted short sword with leather scabbard, curved blade without fullers, right side stamped with crown and "2105." Cast one-piece brass hilt and black leather scabbard with brass throat mount, drag is missing. Very good condition; blade very good with light grey patina, brass retains a mellow patina, scabbard very good with some crazing and minor losses to finish. Blade Length-39 - 1/2", 28 - 1/4", 29"; Overall Length-31 - 1/2", 22 - 1/2", 23 - 1/2";

Maker marked on hilt, spear point, large blood groove, animal hoof and shell hand guard, grips are adorned with two acorns on each side with lion head pommel. In excellent condition with the original leather scabbard with nickel accents and acorn hanger. Small dress sword is in excellent condition and appears to be pre World War II as this style is not found in the WWII catalogs. Blade is not etched. This dress sword comes with an Eickhorn catalog in a binder. Very scarce variation of a Forestry dress sword. Blade Length-16"; Overall Length-21-3/4";

Etched 31-1/4" blade has traces of luster. Perfect shark skin twisted, wire wrapped grip. Brass mounted leather scabbard with an inscription on the top mount, "Sergeant Samuel Cry B Company April 8, 1865". Samuel Cry MO November 24, 1865 as First Sergeant. Lot 468

Knife (A) is a Marbles of Gladstone, Michigan, No. 41 Ideal drop point with 5-1/4" blade, standard layered wood handle, aluminum pommel and an unmarked leather sheath. Blade is sharp with strong markings. Does not appear to have been sharpened. Knife (B) is a Joseph Rodgers & Son, Sheffield, England with a 5" blade, custom wood handle, three bolsters. Excellent blade with perfect tip not sharpened. Generic leather scabbard. Knife (C) is a Marbles patent 1916 with 4-1/4" blade, layered wood handle, and aluminum pommel. Blade does not appear to have been sharpened. Unmarked leather sheath. All three excellent condition early hunting knives. Straight blade marked near top on one side "214" and on the other side stamped "Luckhaus / & / Gunther / R----heid". Engraved cast lion head pommel with pierced mouth, thick serpentine guard with relief cast spacer above and leather wrapped grip with roped brass wire. Brown leather scabbard with nickel plated brass drag and brown leather frog stamped with "Luckhaus & Gunther / Remscheid" in logo with a cow. Good condition; blade has been sharpened complete on both sides and now retains a mottled heavy brown spotted patina. Sword and scabbard have possibly been shortened. Hilt retains a mostly dark patina with some areas polished from handling wear. Grip excellent with a few minor scuffs. Scabbard is very good with one arm of strap on frog missing and some cracks and creases.

Lot 841

Late 19th century or early 20th century. Reeded wood grip with brass pillow pommel and guard. The side of the brass guard facing the handle is inscribed to the owner "James Baxter/Buford, North Carolina". Bowie knife style clip-point blade, complete with leather sheath. Good condition, blade has some marks from use and sharpening marks, grip excellent, scabbard with some minor scuffs and marks. Measures 10 inches long

A) Extremely rare example of a circa 1650 belt knife with fixture to make it into a bayonet. The socket attached to the complete one would allow the soldier to use this as a bayonet. Early iron blade and guard with original scabbard. Wood handle with a crack from age. Iron fixture at bottom that can be fixed onto the barrel of a musket with a screw. Measures 15 inches long. B) Same example as first knife but in relic condition lacking the combination tool, handle is mostly eaten away. Measures 11.5 inches. C) C. 1650 forged iron spontoon head. Measures 12 3/8 inches long.

Unmarked, slightly curved, double fuller steel 27 inch blade. Gilt brass hilt, four slot guard, gilt brass lion’s head pommel, copper wire wrapped copper grip. Complete with brown leather scabbard with two brass mounts, the top featuring a Palmetto tree, indicating that it was probably made in South Carolina during the Revolutionary War period. Good condition, blade retains a dark, pitted patina with some heavy pitting and losses to edge. Hilt retains generous traces of gilt, otherwise dark unpolished brass patina. Scabbard is missing drag, other mounts have dark patina, leather nearly broken in two and with some areas with minor losses, crazing, and marks form use. Guard slightly bent. Hand forged straight steel blade. Simple iron guard with integral knucklebow. Turned wood grip with iron ferrule at front, possibly replaced. With leather scabbard, crudely made with four pieces of leather. Fair condition, all steel surfaces heavily pitted and retaining dark patina, blade has some losses and blade is soldered together in one area, which was broken. Grip has large age cracks and some worm holes. Leather scabbard has some flaking, scuffs, and crazing. Blade Length-NA; Overall Length-NA;

Lot 883

Solid silver Eagle pommel by younger Forbes. Pommel made from same two piece mold as other examples but is decorated more extensively. The back strap is decorated with relief leaves and feathers, is attached to the pommel, and runs down into the bottom ferrule. The thick knuckle bow is a modified reverse "P" with relief leaves and three berries descending in size in high relief in the back. Bow terminates in a large scroll at the counter guard with a reinforcement. Languettes feature a cavalry soldier on a horse. "IW FORBES" in Roman capitals between the languettes and blade. Due to the placement of the hallmark, apparently the languettes were soldered on after the hilt was made. Guard terminates in an eagle head quillion. The ivory grips are bulbus and concord to fit the hand. The blade has a shallow center fuller and is nicely decorated with gilt military motifs and a Patriotic splayed eagle, with fire blued panels on each side. Leather scabbard has very large pierced silver mounts with the top mount being 5-1/4" long and having a throat and roped silver wire ring. The ring stud is soldered on the mount. The center mount is 4-7/8" while the bottom mount is huge being 11-1/2" with a drag. Hilt: (including languettes) 6-1/8”. Total: 41”. Copy of this book featuring this sword on Page 522 Figure 473 will be included. Excellent condition, blade 80-90% original blue and gilt on blade. Some light speckling on polished portion. Silver excellent, with scattered areas of dark patina, detail is excellent on cast components. Grip has some minor chipping along edge below pommel. Blade Length-30"; Overall Length-39 - 1/4";

Lot 885

Rare double-swagged broad Philadelphia blade marked on the square spine “ROWLAND PHILA” in individual capital letters. Solid silver hilt with mounted on a dynamic, unrecorded variation of a huge knights-head pommel that is extremely well adorned. The massive, thick silver knuckle bow consists of two rows of foliage that widen to surround an oval medallion, which has the initials “WR” in script, then flowing into a rather plain counter guard that has an outer branch matching the knuckle bow and terminates in a finely constructed eagle-head quillon. The grips are of ivory, carved with angular, small, close-together lines on both sides. Leather washer between the hilt and the blade. The black leather scabbard is plain with heavy shaped silver mounts. Top mount has a mouth, pressed-line decoration and an extension on the front with the initials “WR.” The second mount is nicely sculptured with the same pressed lines and like the top mount has a heavy stud with a small carrying ring. The Philadelphia style lower mount is very large and is sculptured with the same line decorations, only heavier than the top two, with the drag having a decorated extension of floral design. Excellent condition, blade retains most of original polished surface with some areas of darker grey, markings are excellent. Scabbard is excellent, leather shows scattered scratches, cracking, and one small hole around top edge between second mount and drag. Drag has a few minor dents. Hilt excellent with minimal wear to detail and a few scattered marks on oval plaque, one small loss on visor of helmet and a few small dents. Ivory grip excellent with some discoloration and minor chip below helmet on left side. This sword is marked on scabbard mount and hilt presentation plaque with "WR" for William Rowland, Philadelphia blade maker. The unique wide blade is also marked, making it probable that he made this fine sword for himself. This is one of the finest American silver hilted swords in existence. Lot 886

Georgian sword with a very recognizable two-ring turning on the top of the silver ovoid-shaped ball pommel. It is hallmarked on the obverse knuckle bow buildup “BG” in a rectangle. The quillon is turned to the right for balance, with a square ricasso base on the top of the small shell counterguard. The small pas d’ane rings dip in the center of the shells. Matching ferrules hold the center swelled grip. Straight tapered Colichemarde blade. It has a silver belt hook, top mount and long tip, while the wooden slab scabbard is covered with white pigskin. Hilt; 6-1/8”. Total: 35-1/8”. Copy of "American Silver-Hilted Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords by Daniel Hartzler", featuring this sword will be included. Excellent condition; blade retains a grey patina with scattered areas of heavy brown patina, engraving worn almost completely off blade with some light scattered marks. Hilt is excellent with grip being slightly loose, some light marks from use. Scabbard excellent with a few minor scuffs and top mount separated due to wood expanding. Lot 889

Probably New Orleans. Silver stirrup hilt with engraved rocker panel borders, also on pommel and around the crescent curves and ovoid languetes. The guard has vase and ring turnings. Tapered octagonal horn grip with green hues. The broad curved blade has a large single fuller with a motif of Lady Liberty for the American market on the obverse and a splayed eagle on the shield on the reverse with other gilt decorated motifs. The three large scabbard mounts with fine studs and rings that are joined at the bottom. These are also adorned with shallow fencing and rocker panel engraving. The black leather scabbard is nicely furnished on the back and contains pressed in flowers and diamonds between the first and second mount and broad lines with dental patterns along the bottom edge. Good condition; blade retains a mostly dark, heavy patina with some scattered areas of pitting and two chips at the tip, blade has been sharpened removing some of the engraved gilt designs. Hilt is very good and unpolished, showing some wear to engraved borders and scattered areas of old yellow varnish. Grip has some hairline cracks from age, a small chip at pommel on both sides and a few scattered marks on left side. Scabbard is excellent, retaining nearly all of original crazed black finish, mounted excellent. The drag needs reattached and has a few minor dents. Blade Length-31 - 3/4"; Overall Length-36 - 3/4";

Lot 895

Unmarked but distinctively a product of Isaac Hutton. Silver hilt and pommel with unique knuckle bow origin. The knuckle bow is rasped and there is a tall ferrule at the bottom of the grip. The detailed engraving on the face of the guard is done in very small lines with a deeply engraved shell at the top and bottom. It has stars on the crossguard, which separate the two different areas of the four-slot counter guard. Ivory grip is nicely spiraled with deep spiraling flutes in the center portions. The highly blued and gilt-decorated straight tapered blade is single-edged, except for the last 8" which is double edged. Decorated with patriotic eagle, military motifs and large acanthus leaves at top on each side. The leather scabbard is complete, but in three pieces, and has a shaped silver top mount with a ring and stud and a silver drag. Excellent condition; blade retains 90-95% of its original polish, gilt decoration and bluing with some light rust at top of blade and a few dark areas in polished section. Hilt is polished with excellent engraving, pommel with a few small dents. Grip excellent with some age cracks and a very small chip on bottom, mostly covered by pommel. Scabbard very good but broken into three sections, some losses to black crazed leather. Mounts unpolished. Blade Length-32 - 1/2"; Overall Length-37 - 3/4";

Lot 904

Matching gilt brass hilted dirk and sword of Connecticut ancestry. Very little of the gilding remains. The elliptical eagle and pommels have only slight embossing below the forehead band. The cross quillons are of the same thickness. Both ivory grips possess quality checkering. Chain guard of the dirk is in figure-eight links while the sword has individual round links. The sword retains its black leather scabbard with scalloped mounts and line decorations, drag is absent. Both hilts are 5-1/2" while the flat dirk blade is 17-1/2" and decorated with engraved gilt designs, including arms motifs and a large crown over "GR" in script on the right side. Curved single fuller sword blade is 31" long and has gilt designs, which include arms motifs. Copy of "American Silver-Hilted Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords by Daniel Hartzler", featuring this sword and dirk will be included. Sword and dirk are featured on page 203, figure 190. Good condition, dirk blade retains a dark grey patina with scattered dark areas and some light pitting, hilt is unpolished and grip retains a yellow patina with one large horizontal age crack on top of right side. Sword is good with worn blade showing some dark areas and light pitting, some scattered marks from use and nicks on edge. Hilt unpolished with dark patina and traces of gilt finish, grip excellent and retaining yellowed patina with a few minor hairline age cracks. Scabbard in fair condition with seam open, some crazing and flaking, and missing drag and lug on top mount. Blade Length-Largest: 29"; Overall Length-Largest: 34 - 1/2";

Lot 905

John McMullin’s nicely formed small-beak eagle silver-hilt sword with a doorknob capstan rivet. Forehead molding consists of two lines. The eyes are well set. The feathers are rounded with a center vein and the bottom of the pommel matches the area between the beak and the forehead. The heavy guard is well formed, with a series of round cutouts in the knuckle bow that flow into the counter guard. Counter guard has three spokes on each side and is marked “I. McMullins” on top in a rectangular cartouche in large and small letters. The ivory grip is nicely checkered, bordered with two columns on each edge. Slightly curved blade has a shallow fuller, with a cartouche on the obverse featuring an eagle and indistinguishable initials. The brown leather scabbard has a top mount with a very heavy oval frog button and is engraved “J M” on the upper obverse in script. The tooled lines can be found on both sides of the brown leather scabbard. Hilt: 5-1/4”. Total: 34-1/4”. Copy of "American Silver-Hilted Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords by Daniel Hartzler", featuring this sword will be included. Sword is featured on page 65, figure 52. Excellent condition; blade retains a dark grey patina with some edge wear from scabbard and some light pitting. Scabbard very good with replaced drag and some scuffing and creases, last 6" replaced and all stitching is gone on back. Hilt excellent and grip shows dark yellow patina with some age cracks. Blade Length-28 - 1/2"; Overall Length-33 - 3/4";

Lot 909

Broad, curved single fuller blade with fire blued panels on each side and gilt washed engraved designs including an Indian chief on one side and a patriotic eagle holding an "E Pluribus Unum" banner in its mouth, and an engraved "Warranted" banner below stars. Engraved gilt brass reverse "P" hilt with small languettes. Hilt engraved in various places, including quillion engraved on both sides with a flower, ring in front of grip, and bottom of hilt engraved with flowers and oak leaves. Engraved with an Edelweiss on pommel and oak leaves above grip. Back of guard is also engraved. Ivory grip has a checkered panel on the right side. Complete with original gilt brass scabbard with chiseled brass mounts featuring oak leaves and acorns, each with a ring. Scabbard is decorated with engraved patterns and large leaves. Drag has a rattlesnake in relief around the mount. Scabbard also features two repousse panels on the front; one with Lady Liberty posing with a canon and eagle. Scabbard has a thick ring at throat cut for languettes. Very good condition; blade retains about 70% fire blued finish with much of gilt still intact, especially in engraved lines. Blade otherwise retains much of original polish with scattered areas of dark freckling and some pitting near tip. Hilt retains a mostly unpolished patina with a few small traces of gilt in protected areas. Scabbard retains 80-90% original gilt finish with wear on raised areas, which retain a dark patina. Scabbard has a large crease surrounded by dents between the second mount and the drag with some areas cracked through completely. Some dents are also apparent on left side. Grip has a large age crack on each side. Blade Length-29"; Overall Length-35 - 1/2";

Lot 912

Identical saber from the shop of John Janvier Sr. can be seen in "American Silver-Hilted Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords by Daniel Hartzler" on page 137, figure 131. The only difference being that this piece was made with a scabbard keeper and languettes. Same .084" thick knuckle bow. The bulged ivory grips are checkered on both sides with the reverse having double lines. Imported curved gold washed and blued blade made for the American market. Blade is etched with “U S of A” and military motifs. Black leather bodied scabbard with large mounts. Hilt: 5-7/8”. Total: 37-3/4”. Copy of "American Silver-Hilted Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords by Daniel Hartzler" featuring this sword will be included. Sword is featured on page 137, figure 132.
