Retains riveted leather scabbard, retaining grip snaps and maker stamped J. W. TRATHEN & CO. PTY. LTD. SYDNEY and dated 1943.

A very fine condition piece, touted as an ‘export’ model for use by US & Commonwealth Special Forces, however many of these were issued to British S.F. including L.R.D.G. & S.A.S.

The 18cm long Parkerised steel blade, features a large blood groove ‘cut out’ to both sides, sharpened blade edge and ‘false edge’ blade tip. Maker marked with the manufacturer details of J. Nowill & Sons of Sheffield (England) & the "Star of David" etched into the base of the handle. Comes with the black leather scabbard.

1796 Pattern British Army Light Cavalry Trooper’s sword & scabbard. Metal stirrup hilt, with plain backstrap and shellacked wooden grip, showing old lacquer residue to metal parts. Plain langets & quillon. Large plain 80cm long curved slashing blade, having been period sharpened for field use in generally very good condition overall. Metal scabbard with replaced throat screw, retaining both suspension posts and rings in generally very good condition, with light service wear. Overall length: 99cm.

Urn shaped pommel with 2nd pattern type ‘hatched’ grip showing service use and blackened finish. ‘B2’ (Wilkinson Sword) with Dept. Defence arrow stamped to top side of guard. 17.2 cm long plated double edge blade, with sharpened edges and use to spear point, with light wear, generally very good. ‘2’ stamped chocolate brown leather frog with leg ties & blackened brass end cap, having had the elastic strap section removed.

Brass urn lid pommel, with stag horn grip, with 2 fixed brass acorns (one missing), with gilt washed brass ‘hoof’ guard & half clamshell. 35cm long, double etched blade, maker marked for W.K.C. with knight’s head trademark. Etchings are the classic military style, with trophies of arms & floral patterns. Brass and leather scabbard fits majority of blade, with 7mm gap. Generally very good overall.

Gilded brass scabbard retains both suspension rings, with hand beaten pebbled design. Retains lion head buckled black silken & velvet uniform hangers. A very fine example.

Paul Weyersburg of Solingen maker marked 25.5 cm long 2nd pattern blade, being finely double etched, with foliate, anchor and marine life design. Gilded brass scabbard retains both suspension rings, with lightning bolt design. A very good example.

C1800 British Yeomanry Cavalry Officer’s sword & scabbard by Henry Osborn. Gilt finished lion mane pommel, with stirrup hilt, with plain langets & quillon. Hatched ivory grip, showing some age cracking, with 3 small chips to border. The 76cm long curved slashing blade shows etchings of trophies of arms & laurels, with small amounts of the original blue and gilt finish to both sides, the remainder of the blade shows use and wear, with some light pitting spots and a few minor field cuts to lower blade edge. The leather & brass scabbard retains both suspension rings with leather crazing and a very old/period slash hole to left side centre. The leather scabbard, with the maker dedication ‘H. Osborn Sword Cutler & Belt Maker To His Majesty, Birmingham & Pall Mall, London’ to reverse upper locket. Lower portion stitching has separated, however the scabbard is in good, sound condition which could easily be repaired. A good rare sword, rarely seen for sale. Overall length: 90 cm.

Scabbard rings retain the officer’s hangers.

Features dark brown wood grip which fits the cross guards correctly, retaining both eagle and roundel, both of which sit firmly in the grip. Cross guards are correct nickel type, with the lower guard being Gau stamped ‘Fr’ for region Franken. The good condition by Otto Simon of Steinbach maker marked blade measures 22 cm and is etched with the motto “Alles für Deutschland” (All for Germany), retaining much of its original black lettering finish. Sharpened blade edges, otherwise light wear. Refinished brown finish scabbard, retaining the leather hanger to suspension ring.

The very good condition Karl Böker of Solingen maker marked blade measures 22 cm and is etched with the motto “Alles für Deutschland” (All for Germany). Correct anodised scabbard with its brown finish heavily polished. Retains leather hanger to suspension ring. A rare maker for SA Daggers.

C.1800 British Volunteer Light Cavalry Officer’s sword & scabbard by Edward Loxham. Flat topped steel pommel (lanyard ring absent) with straight bar hilt, with engraved feather langets & quillon. Excellent ribbed ivory grip, solid & firm. The 63cm long slightly curved double fullered blade shows use and wear, with some light pitting spots, but generally good overall. The leather & brass scabbard retains both suspension rings with X impressed design to centre of leather face. Engraved dedication ‘Loxham Royal Exchange’ to reverse upper locket, with leather frog stud to reverse. All stitching present and scabbard very good overall. A good volunteer officer’s sword, rarely seen for sale. Overall length: 78 cm.

Features mid brown wood grip, number stamped 482 to reverse lower grip, retaining zinc eagle and roundel, both of which sit firmly in the grip. Cross guards are correct silver plated type, with light wear age, the lower reverse Gau stamped W (Feldherrenhalle). The very good condition 1942 dated & RZM 7/72 (Karl Rob, Kaldenbach, Solingen-Grafrath) maker marked blade measures 22 cm, with very fine etched motto “Alles für Deutschland” (All for Germany). Very good brown enamelled scabbard shows some light crazing, matching numbered #482 to top chape, very good overall with large style leather uniform hanger. A very good example piece from the last year of dagger manufacturing during the war.

C.1805 Royal Navy Midshipman’s dirk & scabbard, Napoleonic War era. Gilt finished lion mane pommel, with opposed gilt washed brass guard, with fouled anchor langet, the reverse plain. Hatched ivory grip, showing light use and natural colouring to both sides. 40cm long curved blade, showing 70% of blue and gilt engraved portions/colour, with usual wear and light fading. Blade fits snugly into the mid brown leather & gilt finished scabbard. No loss of stitching to rear seam, with ‘St. Andrews’ patterns to leather and hand engraved details to metal furniture. A very good conditioned piece & attractive wall hanger.

C.1850’s British Army 1822 pattern Infantry Officer’s sword & scabbard by W. Buckmaster & Co.Steel 3 branched guard, with plain quillon, bevelled urn pommel & half chequered backstrap. 80cm long, slightly curved steel blade shows etchings to both sides, with Scottish thistles, strung bugle, V.R. royal cypher & trophies of arms etc, with polished maker mark for W.Buckmaster & Co. London. Sharpened & lightly nicked edge to lower spear point, usual with field use. Leather service scabbard retains the toned metal drag, again usual with these campaign swords. Overall length: 102cm.

A Queen Victoria era 1827 Pattern Royal Naval Officer’s sword & scabbard. Polished gilt lion’s head pommel, with mane backstrap, ray skin grip with wire wrap and gilt brass guard, showing the fouled anchor & crown, with folding/locking langet. 84cm slightly curved nickel blade, shows etching to both sides of fouled anchors, royal crown etc, in good condition, with the usual pitting wear, maker marked for A Moses of Portsea. Leather scabbard shows twin brass lockets with twin suspension rings, lacking locking pin for locket, with light service wear to fully stitched leather body. Looks to be 1870’s era piece. Overall length: 99cm.

A WW1 George V era 1827 Pattern Royal Naval Officer’s sword, scabbard & belt/hangers belonging to Rear Admiral Charles Farquhar-Smith, who was the senior naval officer in charge of Western Australia during the tragic loss of all hands aboard H.M.A.S. Sydney II in 1941 and was ultimately blamed for his failure to alert higher command of the disappearance of the ship. Gilt lion’s head pommel, with mane backstrap, ray skin grip with wire wrap and gilt brass guard, showing the fouled anchor & crown, with folding/locking langet. Full bullion knot is attached. 80cm long, straight nickel blade, shows etching to both sides of fouled anchors, royal crown etc, being in mint condition, numbered to spine 04565. Leather scabbard shows twin brass lockets with hand engraved panels, twin suspension rings, coming with full leather belt, by Gieves of London, hanger straps & gilt belt buckle. Overall a near mint example, being 96 cm in length, Not named, but came from the vendor with his named bicorne cap & insignia ex Gregson’s. *See lot 324 for Farquhar-Smith’s cap & insignia lot & biography.

1570 dated Japanese Koto Period Katana by Mogoroku Kanemoto, with NTHK certified paperwork. Blue fabric wound binding, with very good modern ray skin grip base, and silver gilt menuki and decorative pierced tsuba. Tang shows maker stamp for Kanemoto. 70.5cm long blade, shows modern silver habaki, full hamon to blade edge & distinct sanbonsugi temper line pattern to boshi, showing manufacture by Mogoroku Kanemoto. Modern lacquered scabbard included to complete this exceptional condition sword. Comes with comprehensive research paperwork, including NTHK certified certificate, showing tang photo, embossed & hand inked details in Japanese script authenticating the sword, maker & date. Sanbonsugi Kanemoto swords are renowned amongst collectors and enthusiasts as being of the finest quality blades and also for their sharpness & cutting ability. Overall length: 99cm

Fabric wound binding, triple gilded flower disc menuki with black lacquered wooden base, gilded brass fittings and decorative starburst tsuba. Working locking mechanism. Tang shows stamps for manufacture by Toyokawa Arsenal, numbered 1017 & anchor stamp. Opposite side of tang looks to name the sword to Yama Guchi, 4th son of….. The 69 cm blade shows light scratch wear from use & in and out wear. The black lacquered wooden scabbard is in very good condition, with some crazing to finish, a couple of small service strikes with gilt finished suspension posts & fittings. Overall length: 96. Comes with research paperwork

WW2 Japanese Army Officer’s Shin-Gunto sword & scabbard by Koketsu Kanetaka. Full field service laced grip cover over the fabric wound binding, with excellent ray skin grip base, triple gilded flower menuki and decorative pierced tsuba. Field grade Lieutenant tassel to pommel. Scabbard retaining working locking button. Tang shows stamps for Showa Period manufacture and smith details for Koketsu Kanetaka, resident of Seki in Noshu Provence. The 71 cm blade is in very fine condition, with full swirling hamon to edge. The brown scabbard is in very good condition & retains its full field service leather scabbard, with metal braced drag, with taped split and 13cm long stitching separation to cover. Very good condition overall. This sword was souvenired in Burma and donated post-war to the Army Association Club. Overall length: 99cm. Comes with research paperwork

Scabbard retaining button present, but not locking. Tang shows stamps but too rusty to identify, but Showa Period manufactured. The 71 cm blade is in good used condition, showing some nicks to edge, slightly rounded kissaki. The brown scabbard retains 70% of the leather field service cover, with upper fittings showing rust and wear, but all present. Overall length: 102cm

Late 19th Century Russian/Caucasian ‘Shashka’ sword with scabbard. Hand pattern impressed brass birds head pommel, with central tang screw nut to crown. Ebony chiselled wooden grips, with brass thumb pointed guard. 81cm long, slightly curved thick steel blade, showing a slight curve 3/4/ way down blade from what looks like a combat strike. Blade fits well into the shellacked leather bound wooden scabbard, showing scabbard suspension rings/posts, with same blade strike point crack to one side of scabbard. Un-marked, yet typically late 1800’s made, with slotted bayonet ports for Cossack Cavalry. Generally very good throughout. Overall length: 96cm

Rare 1st type sword, featuring all nickel fittings, with ‘sun wheel’ swastikas to pommel & centre of guard & pommel. Twisted wire binding to blue leather grip, showing some wear point to wooden base. Winged guard sits tight on the tang, with no movement & engraved 1/Flak – Regt. 7. 67.5cm long, F A Helbig Steinbach maker marked blade shows mirror finish overall, with only light drawing in and out wear. WW2 Italian Navy Officer’s sword & scabbard. Gilt finished solid brass half basket guard, with Italian crown over a fouled anchor as a cartouche badge and a fold down clip to attach to the scabbard on the back edge. The brass backstrap pommel is a lion's head and mane with slightly worn white painted wooden grip, bound with brass wire. The 76cm long thin straight blade is etched to both sides with a floral pattern of trophies of arms, crowned eagle & naval scenes. Black enamelled metal scabbard is mounted with double embossed brass lockets with and naval anchor adorned drag. Overall length 93cm

C.1950’s Nepalese Ceremonial ‘Sacrifice’ Kukri. Large type Kukri, with bone & pewter adorned grip, with 90cm long spotless curved steel blade.  Sharpened edge to blade. Large impressed leather covered wooden scabbard, with pewter diamond shaped base. Retains single skinning knife. These large pieces were used for ceremonial sacrifice of buffaloes for special occasions, much like the famous end of movie scene in ‘Apocalypse Now’. Heavy piece, overall length: 110cm. Gilt plated metal fittings, wire bound faux ray skin grip, full gilt fired pierced guard. 77cm long steel blade, with etchings to both sides & WEST AUSTRALIAN POLICE & 1788 BI-CENTENARY COMMEMORATIVE SWORD 1988 motto, Fabrica Bermeco Spanish maker marked. Engrave numbered 56 to blade spine. Comes with leather bound, gilt fired brass chaped steel scabbard. Comes with grey cotton sword bag, numbered 56, with card box also numbered 56. Sold in 1988 to serving WA Police officers in very limited numbers. Measures 92cm long. Only the 2nd example of this sword we have ever seen for sale, only 100 originally for sale in 1988
