French bayonet in scabbard, 55cm long, and another similar, 71cm long CONDITION REPORT: Lot 145 - Scabbard rusty with dents, press stud moves, surface rust and some pitting, top of blade engraving worn off, top of blade and hilt stamped. Second bayonet: some pitting, stamped Sanderson 1907,2,18 and crown, chunk lacking to wooden handle, press stud works.
British 1827 Pattern Naval Officers Sword for the Honourable East India Company, the sword has fish skin grip with copper wire binding. Guard decorated with fouled anchor and lion insignia of the HEIC. Lion head top. Black leather scabbard with brass mount fittings to the top and bottom. Plain catch fitting to the reverse. Blade is early pipe back example with etched decoration. London retailers mark to the base of the blade. Blade remains in good overall condition.
1827 Pattern Naval Officers Sword with fish skin and copper wire grip. Guard has separate piece fouled anchor and crown to the centre. Lion head top. Complete with back catch and a small circular ring fitting. Hilt fittings retain nearly all of their original fire gilt finish. Complete with gilt brass mounted scabbard, reverse having retailers plaque for Widdowson & Veale Late Salter Goldsmiths Sword Cutlers 73 Strand London. Blade is early pipe backed example with remains of the etched decoration. Some surface pitting and polishing to the blade.
Scarce Variation British 1827 Pattern Naval Officers Sword with Scottish Broadsword Blade, the sword has gilt brass hilt and lion head pommel. Fold down catch to the reverse of the hilt. Fouled anchor with Victorian crown. Fish skin grip with wire binding. Scottish broadsword blade etched with foliage and coat of arms to one side and the other side having foliage and crowned anchor. E&W Seagrove Portsea retailers mark to the base. Some wear to the blade and no scabbard.
British 1822 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword being a William IV example housed in its steel scabbard. Scabbard is missing top fitting. Fish skin grip is complete with the wire, some damage to the lower section of grip. Complete with the fold down guard to the reverse. Plain pipe backed blade. Some wear to the blade.
British Royal Navy 1827 Pattern Officers Sword being a Victorian type example with fish skin grip having the original wire binding. Lion head top with the dish guard having the fouled anchor and Victorian crown above. Scabbard has brass mount fittings with the top fitting having retailers mark for Eames & Co Late Selby Portsmouth. Blade has standard decoration and has been polished. Some wear to the blade. Leather scabbard has shrunk over the years making the sword a tight fit.
Continental Infantry Officers Sword similar in style to a British 1822 pattern sword. Fish skin handle retains grip wire. Brass guard has central design of a gladiators armour and helmet sat on flags, fold down guard to the reverse. Scabbard is of steel with brass mounts. Plain un-marked blade. Some staining to the blade but generally good condition.
French 1831 Gladius Short Sword complete with its original issue scabbard. Brass one piece handle. Scabbard mounts are in brass, seem to the reverse is split due to age shrinkage of the leather. Paris makers stamp to the base of the blade. Small tip of the blade absent. Some surface staining but generally good condition.
Imperial German Naval Officers Sword with gilt knuckle bow and guard, Imperial Crowned anchor to the guard. Lion head with jewelled red eyes. Grip retains the original wire. Complete with the fold down guard to the reverse. Leather scabbard with brass mount fittings. Blade has early WKC makers trade mark to the base. Etched blade with sailing ship, foliage and crowned anchor to one side and the other having sailing ship, foliage and trophy of arms. Some surface staining to the blade but generally good condition.
Edward VII 1897 Pattern Sword and Associated Items Attributed to Lt Col C E C Bartlett, MC, 1st Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, the sword is complete with the leather covered field service scabbard. Grip retains the original wire. Blade is well worn with much of the etching now missing. WKC mark to the base of the blade. Accompanied by EPNS tankard presented by the Singapore Polo Club, October 1921, Hallmarked Silver christening cup presented by the warrant officers and sergeants of B company 1st battalion South Staffordshire regiment, October 1925 and a small polished wood cigar / cigarette box with mother of pearl inset regimental cap badge and name plaque to the lid. George V British Grenadier Guards Officers Levee Sword by Wilkinson’s, the sword is complete with the original brown leather covered field service scabbard. Guard has regimental insignia for the Grenadier Guards. Fish skin grip complete with the original wire. Blade is etched with foliage, battle honours and regimental insignia. Original owners initials engraved to the blade “L.H.B”. Base of the blade has Henry Wilkinson mark and edge is numbered 53921. Some light staining to the blade.
George V Scots Guards Officers Sword by Wilkinson’s complete with its original fish skin grip, retaining the original wire. Hilt is pierced and decorated with Scots Guards badge. Housed in its metal scabbard, scabbard appears to have been refinished at one time. Blade is etched with foliage, battle honours and regimental badge. Wilkinson’s trade mark to the base and edge is numbered 46532. Some staining to the blade but generally a good condition example.
George V Scottish Basket Hilt Broadsword Formerly the Property of Sir Jonathan Roberts Davidson CMG TD MSc MICE, Battalion Commander Liverpool Scottish During WW1 and Twice Wounded in Action, the broadsword has basket hilt with red felt inner section and crimson tassels to the top. Complete with its original brown leather covered field service scabbard. Near mint condition broadsword blade etched with foliage and thistles and monogram of George V. No retailer or makers mark to the blade. Blade length 82cm, overall length 103cm. Colonel Sir Jonathan Roberts Davidson was born in Liverpool 1874. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 8th (Scottish) Volunteer Battalion of the Kings Liverpool Regiment on 6th February 1901. Promoted to Lieutenant and Captain by 7th March 1903. Davidson and the Liverpool Scottish spent much of 1914 and 1915 in trenches in the Ypres area. During the Spring of 1915, whilst at Zillebeeke, Davidson used his civilian engineering expertise to significantly improve his battalion's trenches. Davidson was himself injured during the attack on Bellewaarde Farm on 24–25 May 1915 in the second Battle of Ypres. During this period Davidson was appointed a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George and his temporary rank was confirmed as substantive on 29 May 1916 with precedence of 19 June 1915. Whilst personally rallying the battalion during the Battle of Guillemont in the Somme area in 1916 Davidson was once again wounded in action. Davidson spent the remainder of the year convalescing and returned to the battalion in 1917. See Lot – for his WW2 uniform and more biography details.
George V Coldstream Guards Officers Sword by Wilkinson’s complete with its original grip retaining the wire binding. Pierced hilt with regimental badge. Bullion sword knot attached to the guard. White metal dress scabbard. Blade is etched with foliage, battle honours, original owners initials and monogram, George V monogram, regimental badge and Henry Wilkinson trade mark. Edge of the blade is numbered 31938 and London Made. Sword has been professionally polished for parade wear. Blade length 82cm, total length 101cm.
Third Reich SA Dress Dagger complete with its original scabbard. Grip retains the eagle and SA device badges. Some minor plating lifting to the lower and top mounts of the handle. Blade remains in very good overall condition with much of the cross graining to the top section of the blade, just some light staining to the lower section. Blade is marked RZM M7/1 for Gebruder Christian - Christianswerk, Solingen. Some small scratches and chips to the scabbard but generally very good example.
Pair of small late 19th Century Japanese dark patinated bronze figures of Samurai, each mounted on a carved hardwood stand, signature panels to the bronze, approximately 9ins high overall CONDITION REPORT Sword on this figure is missing its handle and also is missing an item from hand and scabbard also missing from waist. Other figure is holding a sheathed sword but the tip of the scabbard is broken and missing. He does have a scabbard in his belt. I think that parts may have been swapped between the two figures.
