Steel pommel with “Ross Rifle Co” details. Dated “11/14”. Polished wooden slab grips. Contained in its brown leather scabbard with integral frog. The rear of the frog with faint ink inscription “M.B. Dix ? E Coy 6 Batt 2 C. Brig”. Blade in very clean condition. Believed to have been issued to Private Maurice Buxton Dix a native of Middlesex who enlisted into the Canadian Army on the 24th September 1914 at Winnipeg.

The sword is of the Regimental pattern, the blade with etched decoration incorporating an EIIR cypher, Regimental title and floral decoration. Also with a presentation inscription “PRESENTED TO WO1 (RSM) N PENFOLD BY ALL RANKS OF 47TH FIELD REGIMENT ROYAL ARTILLERY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS COMMISSION APRIL 1982”. The forte with the cutler’s details and the back of the blade with the number “113033”. The hilt with three bar open guard, with shagreen grip. Complete with polished brown leather field service scabbard, This with the unusual feature of a pair of gilt loose rings. Parade condition. 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) 1887 Regimental Pattern Sword. A rare attributed example carried by Lieutenant William Percy Burnell Ward who was commissioned into the Regiment in 1887. The straight single edged blade with etched decoration of a crowned VR cypher, regimental device with title and Battle Honours the last being Afghanistan 1879-80. The blade also with the original owners entwined initials. The hilt with special pattern guard incorporating the Regimental device. The shagreen grip retains twist wire binding. Housed in steel scabbard. The blade remains in clean condition extra metal dulled.

Mid 19th Century Highland Regiment Field Officer’s Sword by Wilkinson of London. A rare example made by Wilkinson Sword in 1858 (8802). The straight 36 inch plain blade is with half length double fuller. The forte with the cutler’s details and the blade etched with the gothic initials “G.Y.”. The hilt with shagreen grip with twist wire binding, this enclosed by a steel guard similar to the 1857 Royal Engineer pattern, with solid plain panel. Complete with black leather and steel mounted grip. Overall GC some age patina, crude repair to the leather scabbard at the chape.

1796 Light Cavalry Officer’s Blue & Gilt Bladed Sword by Osborn. A scarce example of small proportions, possibly carried by a young Cornet. The 27 inch blade with 3/4 length blue and gilt decoration, tis depicting a GR cypher, Royal Coat of Arms and Britannia. The hilt is of the regulation pattern with steel single bar guard. Complete with original steel scabbard. Overall GC approximately 70% blue and gilt decoration remains. Scabbard with heavy pitting, now with dark patina.

Royal Horse Guards Edward VII Attributed Officer’s state pattern sword By Wilkinson A scarce example carried by Captain Michael John Wemyss of the Royal Horse Guards. The single edged blade with cutler’s name of Wilkinson London; blade number “41992” (1907). The blade is etched with a Crowned EVIIR cypher and the reverse with crowned RHG Cypher and Battle Honours, also etched with the owners name “M Wemyss”. The plated guard is mounted with entwined gilt metal letters RHG surmounted by a King’s crown. Also with gilt metal stud decoration. Shagreen grip with twist wire binding and rounded chequered pommel. Housed in original steel scabbard with gilt metal mounts and two loose rings. Overall GC decoration to blade remains clear. Captain Michael John Wemyss passed through Sandhurst in 1906 and was commissioned into the Royal Horse Guards. He landed in France with the rank of Lieutenant on the 7th October 1914. He survived the war attaining the rank of Captain, after being wounded at Ypres in 1916 and was unfit for further overseas service. Shortly after the war he married the daughter of the 7th Duke of Portland.

Mid 19th Century Victorian Royal Navy Officer’s Sword of Small Proportions. A very good quality sword of smaller than normal proportions possibly for a Page Boy at a Royal Naval Wedding. The 26 1/2 inch piped back plain blade is with spear point. The hilt is of the regulation pattern, the solid guard incorporating a crowned fouled anchor devise, white shagreen grip with twist wire binding and a lion head pommel. Housed in its black leather scabbard with gilt metal mounts, the top mount with the early feature of a double loose ring, similar to that found on the midshipman dirk. The gilt has worn to the brass base metal and the scabbard remains supple, but with some age wear. Overall length is only 32 1/ inches, the blade width is 1 inch.

Royal Air Force Officer’s RAF Sword by Wilkinson of London A good and scarce Elizabeth II post 1953 example by Wilkinson, the blade (numbered 97948 (1970)) etched with Royal Arms and a crowned eagle in flight. The pierced gilt metal guard is again cast with a crowned eagle, the guard enclosing a white shagreen grip with twist wire binding surmounted by a pommel ornamented with an Eagle’s head. Housed in black leather scabbard, with gilt mounts. Overall GC slight age wear.

A George V Irish Guards Officer's sword, 83cm blade by Thompson of Piccadily, etched with scrolling foliage, crowned regimental device and GVR cypher, regulation steel gothic hilt incorporating the badge of the Irish Guards, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its field service scabbard. Sold with research. The sword of Lieutenant Arthur Edmund O'Connor, Irish Guards. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, Irish Guards, 9th February 1917 and promoted Lieutenant 23rd February 1918. He saw service with the Irish Guards in France and Flanders during the First World War, the regimental history recording him as joining the 1st Battalion in France on 30th September 1917. At that time the 1st Battalion Irish Guards formed part of the 1st Guards Brigade, Guards Division. O'Connor joined the 1st Battalion in time to take part in the battle of Poelcappelle, 9th October 1917, the first battle of Paschendaele, 12th October 1917, the capture of Bourlon Wood, and the German counter-attacks and recapture of Gouzeaucourt, 24th - 30th November 1917. He subsequently saw service with the 2nd Battalion Irish Guards, joining that battalion in the field on 2nd June 1918, on which date it formed part of 4th Guards Brigade, 31st Division. Thereafter the 31st Division took part in the battle of La Becque, 28th June 1918, the capture of Vieux Berquin, 13th August, and the final advance to victory in Flanders, including the battles of Ypres, 28th September - 2nd October, and Tieghem, 31st October 1918. Lieutenant O'Connor was still serving with the Irish Guards when the war ended on 11th November 1918.
