A SLOTTED HILT MARINE SERGEANTS' HANGER. With a broad curving 75cm fullered blade, with a slotted guard and bulbous wire wound grip and urn shaped pommel, in a leather scabbard with twin brass mounts. 92cm overall. Swords of this type are typical of the American War of Independence and were often issued in preference to the 1796 Infantry Sergeants' spadroon.
A FINE LATE 18TH/19TH CENTURY MARINE OFFICERS FIGHTING SABRE. With a 77cm curved single edged pointed blade with broad fuller, partially blued and decorated with a standing figure of Britannia, GR cypher and pre 1801 Royal Coat of Arms, marked to the back of the blade 'Osborns Warranted'. With a stirrup hilt with Lion's head pommel, wire wound grip and langets with fouled anchor surrounded by laurel leaves. The elaborate scabbard with three brass mounts finely engraved with military trophies, serpents and foliage, with twin ring suspension. 92cm overall. The laurel wreath enclosing a fouled anchor was the badge of the Royal Marines prior to 1827 when the globe was added.
AN 1805 NAVAL WARRANT OFFICERS' SPADROON. With a 70cm straight, tapering and pointed blade with engraved decoration, the stirrup hilt with black fish skin grip, plain oval pommel and backstrap with central groove, the langets with fouled anchors, in a leather scabbard with three mounts with twin ring suspension, the top mount engraved 'Read Sword Cutler Portsmo'. 84cm overall length. This sword is reduced in length as they were issued to Midshipmen with the length appropriate to their height.
A LIGHT INFANTRY 90TH REGIMENT PATTERN SWORD. With a 68cm curved pipe back blade with traces of original engraved foliate decoration and possible battle honour. With stirrup holt with broad fish skin handle with three rivets with decorative heads, the langets with slung bugles, the leather scabbard with three decorative mounts and twin ring suspension marked for 'Baker & Son 24 Bedford Street Covent Garden' all within a laurel wreath and beneath a crown. 86cm overall. This pattern of sword was made specifically for ther 90th Regiment during the early years of the 19th century.

With a 71cm curved single sided blade with broad fuller, partially blued and gilt with GR cypher beneath a crown and military trophy, the stirrup hilt with langets and side ring enclosing a fouled anchor, the front langet with engraved conjoined initials. The leather scabbard with three gilt brass mounts, the top mount marked for 'Knubley and Co. No.7 Charring Cross, London'. 86cm overall.
AN EARLY 19TH CENTURY NAVAL LIEUTENAN'S SPADROON. With an 82cm straight pointed fullered blade marked to the back 'Runkel Solingen', decorated with a GR cypher and crown amongst scrolls and a military trophy and post 1801 Royal Crest to the other side. With a stirrup hilt, black fish-skin grip bound with wire, elaborate lion's head pommel and langet engraved with fouled anchors. The leather scabbard with three brass mounts and twin ring suspension, the top mount marked for R.Johnston late Bland & Foster Sword Cutler & belt maker to his Majesty 68 St James' Street, London' dated 1803 to the button and with owners initials 'FL'. 103cm overall.

With a broad 75cm curved pointed and fullered blade marked to the back 'Runkel Solingen', decorated with Royal coat of arms, GR cypher beneath a Crown, the stirrup hilt with Crocodile headed back strap, the black leather grip wound with wire, the langets with fouled anchors, The black leather scabbard with three mounts and twin ring suspension. 94cm overall length, Although Dirks with Crocodile decoration are relatively common sabres are much less regularly encountered.
A 1796 PATTERN CAVALRY OFFICER SWORD AND SCABBARD. With a 70cm curved blade with allover etched decoration including a royal crown and crest, standing figure of Britannia, indistinctly marked for '..bson ... colt .. London', with a sloping guard, curved langets, stirrup hilt and rounded pommel enclosing a wire bound fish skin grip, in a steel scabbard, 85cm overall length. The following information has been offered regarding this sword: A Napoleonic Osborn Flank Officer's Sabre. A 'Flank' Officer's Sabre by Henry Osborn & Pall Mall London. Based on the 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Sabre but sized down for weight and dress. Henry Osborn was recorded to be at Pall Mall during C.1803-1808. This is most likely a cavalry officer's dress/frock sabre. With a 70cm curved blade with all over etched decoration including; a royal crown and English arms of 1801-1816, standing figure of Britannia, marked 'H Osborn & Pall Mall, London', with sloping D guard, small curved langets, and rounded backstrap enclosing a wire bound fish skin grip, in a steel scabbard, 85cm overall length. This style of sabre is also highly inspired by Shamshirs, following the 1798-1801 Egyptian Campaign, copying the Mameluke-style being unfullered and highly curved. The term 'Flank Officer' refers to the Flank Companys of Light Infantry and Grenadiers, but the term 'Flank Officer's Sabre' commonly refers to a light-weight, highly curved sword of the Georgian-Period.

A Naval Officers sword with a slightly curved 73cm pointed, single edged and fullerd blade, decorated with etched decoration of a fouled anchor and Royal coat of arms with Queen's Crown, marked Firmin & Sons 153 Strand & 13 Conduit Street London, the grip lion's head pommel with finely chased back, wire wound fish skin grip and folding aide. The leather and brass scabbard similarly marked for Firmin and Sons.
A LATE VICTORIAN SEAFORTH HIGHLANDERS CROSS-HILTED BROADSWORD AND SCABBARD. With an 84cm tapering pointed blade with partial central fuller, profusely etched with a crown above 'Seaforth Highlanders Ross Shire B F S', amongst seventeen thistles and foliage, the other side with VR monogram and prince of Wales feathers, the blade marked for Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall and numbered 33204 to the back suggesting a date of 1895. With a straight cross bar and fish skin bound handle and domed pommel and pierced nut. With a leather covered scabbard with steel mount with ball finial, 100cm overall.
AN 1895 PATTERN ROYAL MARINES SWORD AND SCABBARD. With an 84cm partially fullered pointed blade with polished etched decoration with a crown above 'Gibraltar' a globe and 'Per Mare Per Terram' with Royal Cypher to the other side, stamped RM1 to the back, with a broad three-quarter guard pierced with VR beneath a crown, with wire wound shagreen handle and attached sword knot. The polished scabbard with twin ring suspension. 101cm overall.

With a 36cm tapering double edged blade with central fuller, the cross bar with twin forward facing quillons and beaded guard, with a reeded ivory grip with gilt mount with Queen's Crown and fouled anchor, with cushion shaped pommel, the leather and brass mounted scabbard with twin ring suspension points and engraved fouled anchor, with later sword knot. 52cm overall.

With an 82.5cm spadroon blade by Runkel, the single sided blade fullered with double sided point and gilt and engraved decoration of military trophies, a post 1801 Royal coat of arms and crown above a GR cypher, signed Runkel, Solingen to the back, with a 'boat shell' guard, with plain bow and cross bar. The leather scabbard with three gilt metal mounts, the top mount engraved 'J.Read, Maker, College Green, Dublin', with twin ring suspension, 99cm overall.

With an 80cm straight, undecorated and fullered blade with pointed tip, with an oval brass guard with leaf border and similarly decorated double quillon, with a wire wound grip and urn shaped pommel engraved with a stylised artillery piece, with a leather scabbard with two brass mounts, 103cm overall. Presumably this is a pre 1796 pattern sword prior to the Infantry Pattern sword of this date.

With a broad 75cm curved single sided blade with shallow fuller, with gilt engraving against a blued background of a crown above conjoined initials and a standing figure of a Light Company Officer wearing a Tarlton pattern helmet, Royal coat of arms, crossed baton and sword and other motiffs, the guard of double S bar type with a central slung bugle in a circle, with a wire wound ebony grip and gilt lions head pommel, in a leather scabbard with three mounts with scrolling details, 93cm overall.

With an 82cm tapering pointed and gently fullered blade, with gilt and blued section decorated with a crown above GR and a standing figure of an Infantry officer in bicorn hat with sword drawn, a post 1801 Royal coat of arms and a military trophy, the remainder of the blade finely etched with scrolling foliage and military trophies, the double shell guard with hinged side, wire wound grip and vase shaped pommel, with a leather scabbard with three gilt mounts with double ring suspension. The top mount engraved 'Prater & Son Charring Cross, London'. 103cm overall.
A CUT STEEL COURT SWORD. Alate 19th/early 20th century court sword with a 78cm three edged blade with etched scrolling decoration, with a cut and polished steel hilt and 'clam shell' guard, thin bow and vase shaped pommel, in leather and steel mounted scabbard, 97cm overall. This sword belonged to Sir Charles Scarth, six time mayor of Morley who lived at Searthingwell, a woolen manufacturer who devoted a considerable part of his time to public service. Although the family have always believed this is the sword with which Sir Charles was knighted it seems more likely it was the sword he wore on that occasion. Sold with copy of an obituary and photograph of Sir Charles.

An S84/98 bayonet with a 25cm pointed and fullered darkened blade stamped 'EuF Horster' and '754 m' to the ricasso, stamped '37' to the back of the blade, with a two part wooden grip, steel scabbard numbered 7664, in a leather frog and belt hanger stamped with a German eagle above a swastika and letter 'M', 41cm overall.

An SA dagger with a 22cm pointed blade with inscription 'Alles fur Deutfchland' marked for Eickhorn of Solingen and 'RZM M 7/66 1938', with a wooden grip with enamel SA motif and Nazi eagle with wings outstretched, in a brown finished scabbard with single ring suspension, 37cm overall.

An 1888 pattern bayonet with a 30.5xm pointed double edged blade marked 'Wilkinson 11 94 and WD, 35 W and X to the ricasso, the two part wooden handle similarly marked, in a leather and steel scabbard, 44cm overall. A similar 1907 pattern bayonet with 42cm blade marked 'Wilkinson' and with other indistinct marks, two part wooden grip and leather scabbard on webbing hanger. And a French Chassepot type bayonet and scabbard, 71cm. (3)
A STUDENTS N.P.E.A. DRESS DAGGER AND SCABBARD BY BURGSMULLER. The 22cm pointed blade engraved 'Mehr sein als scheinen' (Be more than machines), marked to the reverse Karl Burgsmuller Charlottensburg 5. Berlin'. With a wooden handle set with an eagle and swastika, in an olive green scabbard with twin mounted chain and spring clip. The Nationalpolitische Erziehungsanstalt was an SS run educational institution to train future national leaders. 38cm overall. This example probably post second World War.

With a 16.5cm double sided pointed blade marked 'The F S Fighting Knife' and Wilkinson Sword London, the flat oval guard 5cm wide, the handle with a slender textured grip, 29cm overall, in brown leather scabbard with brass tip. 33cm overall.
TWO MALAYAN KRIS KNIVES AND SCABBARDS. A Kris type knife with a 31cm sharpened wavy edged blade with textured surface, the curved grip in the form of a seated lion-man, the elaborate carved hardwood scabbard all-over carved with scrolling foliate and lion mask decoration, 48cm overall, and a similar knife with a 53cm straight edged, sharpened ridged blade, with a carved, pierced and white metal mounted grip, the scabbard with repeated horizontal copper bindings, 68cm overall. A SECOND WORLD WAR AND LATER GROUP OF SIX AND SWORD TO JOSEPH PALMER. A Second World War and later group comprising 1939-45 and Atlantic Stars, War Medal with Mentioned in Despatches Oak leaf, all unnmaed as issued, Korea medal named to 'CDR J.M. Palmer R.N.' United Nations Korea Medal and Naval General Service Medal 1909-1962 with Near East clasp named to CDR J.M. Palmer R.N.' Mounted court style as worn, with accompanying miniatures and two sets of ribbon bars. With Commander Palmer's sword and scabbard by Matthew's and Company of Portsmout, with a 79cm decorated blade marked 'Matthews Portsea' with gilt guard, fishskin grip and sword knot, engraved J.M. PALMER R.N. to the folding catch, with scabbard and leather travelling cover with a paper label 'Commander J.M. Palmer C.N.I. Dept Admiralty. London' and crossed out 'c/o Flag Officer Malayan Area, Singapore''. Also with folding pocket knife with spike and 7.5cm blade marked 'J.M. Palmer', Junior Car Club medal from Brooklands Rally 1935 to J.M.Palmer (Singer), government issue whistle with chain and identity tag Lieutenant J.M. Palmer Royal Navy C of E', an 'Arctic Convoy Veternas 1941-45' Plaque presented to J.M. Palmer (Capt) 1945-46 H.M.S. Zambesi' with a label to the reverse 'Presented to Commander J.M. Palmer as a token of our regard for the Skipper of a Happy Ship. From the remaining Ship's Company At Hawkchurch Devon 31st October '92', and an unrelated pair of First World War miniatures. Joseph Mansergh Palmer (1912-1999) joined the Navy as a Cadet on the 1st of September 1929, he was appointed Lieutenant on the 1st April 1934, Lt Commander from 1st April 1942 and Commander from the 31st Decemebr 1946. During the Second World War he commanded three ships HMS Aldenham an Escort Destroyer from 18th November 1941-23rd March 1942, HMS Eglinton a similar vessel from 16th May 1942 until and 21st February 1944 and HMS Zambesi a Destroyer from the 10th March 1945 until late 1946. He retired on the 26th April 1962. He was awarded his Mention for 'action with E Boats in Nore area' in February 1944. Joseph Palmer is illustrated, when a Lieutenant Commander in a group photograph, plate 39, page 238, in 'Last Convoy of SS. Henry Bacon, by Foxvog and Alotta from 2001. This volume charts the last journey of one of the 'Liberty Ships' or freighter on its last journey. Palmer is seen amongst a group of 'Commanding officers of the Second Destroyer Flotilla 1946'.
