Victorian Officer’s Sword, Possibly Customs Officer.This sword follows the 1822 Infantry pattern, with a single edged piped back curved blade. This being plain. The hilt with a folding guard and three open bar guard. This mounted with an oval panel embossed with a Victorian Crown. The shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in black leather scabbard with brass mounts, fitted with two loose rings. GC.
George III Royal Cheshire Militia Officer’s Spadroon.A scarce example of the Infantry Officer’s Pattern Spadroon by Thos Gill Birmingham. Single edged blade with engraved Crowned GR III entwined cypher and engraved panel “Warranted never to fail”. The reverse of the blade is engraved with the Crowned initials R.C.M. Blade with surface pitting to the point. Grip with inlaid steel panel engraved with a Crowned Garter strap with a C to the centre. The crossguard, knuckle guard and pommel are polished steel. Sword is housed in original leather and steel mounted scabbard. The mounts are fitted with two loose rings, the top mount with frog button. The scabbard is weak in two areas, one loose ring replaced. Chape possible old replacement.
Edward VII British 1887 Heavy Cavalry Officer’s Sword.The straight single edged blade with etched decoration of an Edward VII crowned cypher and Royal Coat of Arms. The forte with details of J. Daniels of Woolwich. The hilt of the regulation pattern, the guard enclosing a shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in steel scabbard with two loose rings. Etching to blade clear, but some age wear. The vendor believes this sword to be from the Shirburn Castle estate sale of 2004 and was the property of a Captain L.W. Matthews of the 5th Dragoon Guards step father of the 7th Earl Macclesfield. Not confirmed by Bosleys.

The hilt is of the Royal Engineers 1857 pattern, with brass guard with floral decoration. The shagreen grip retaining twist wire binding. Housed in steel scabbard. Victorian Attributed Royal Engineers Officer’s Sword A good example of the 1857 pattern, attributed to Lieutenant Colonel James Ford Dorward The slightly curved single edged blade with etched decoration of a crowned VR cypher, the reverse with the title “Royal Engineers”. A panel is etched with a family armourial crest and initials “J.F.D.”. The hilt is of the Royal Engineers 1857 pattern, with brass guard with floral decoration. The shagreen grip retaining twist wire binding. Housed in polished brass scabbard. GC etching clear. Attributed to Lieutenant Colonel James Ford Dorward who was commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1864, Captain 1877, Major 1884 and Lt Col in 1891. He saw service in the Sudan He retired in 1897
Napoleonic War Period 1796 Light Cavalry Officer’s Sword By Gills.A good quality example, the single edged curved 32 inch blade is etched with the date 1798 and also depicts a mounted Officer, the figure of Victory, Britannia, Royal Coat of Arms etc. Also the cutler's details of “Tho Gills warranted never to fail 1798”. Etching runs 3/4 the length of the badge. The hilt of the regulation pattern, with single bar guard and leather covered grip. Housed in an all metal scabbard, this now with a black painted finish. Etching to the blade of high quality and clear.
Victorian 3rd Bn Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry Attributed Officer’s Sword By Wilkinson.A scarce levee example of the 1895 pattern sword, attributed to Major Charles Spencer Hall. The narrow blade with etched decoration depicting a reverse entwined Crown VR cypher, Regimental device of the 3rd Bn “Royal Bucks King’s Own” and initials “CH’, which is also repeated to the scabbard. The forte with the cutler’s details of Wilkinson and the blade bears the number “33859”. The hilt is the regulation pattern with shagreen grip. Housed in correct narrow scabbard. Overall GC etching clear some age wear to plating. The Wilkinson records record that the sword was ordered by Captain C Hall on the 27th February 1896. He had been commissioned into the 3rd Bn in 1888, Lt 1892 and Captain 1893. He retired with the Honorary rank of Major in 1902.

The blade is also decorated with a “VR” crowned cypher and the device of the Lancashire Rifle Volunteers. The hilt is of the regulation Rifle Volunteer pattern with shagreen grip and twist wire binding. Housed in steel scabbard. Blade in clean condition. Overall GC. Raised at Liverpool 10th January 1860. Became 4th VB The King’s (Liverpool Regiment) in 1888.

Shagreen grip with twist wire binding and complete with full leather and scarlet faced lining, crimson tassel and blue silk ties. Housed in original steel scabbard of correct pattern. Overall very clean, etching clear, scabbard dulled.

Ornate gilt cross guard, the grip of turned wood, with matching gilt floral mounts. Housed in it’s original black leather and plain gilt mounted scabbard. Overall GC good clean condition. The sword is similar to that carried by the Queen’s Body Guard for Scotland, but has turned wood to the grip rather than a solid gilt grip.

A George V 1897 pattern infantry officer's sword, in leather scabbard with leather acorn. * Property of Lt Cl. K. C. Booker (see lot 533) CONDITION REPORT: Blade 82cm. Blade etching crisp but there is pitting to the steel. There is no maker's mark that I can see. The sword is straight and sturdy. The plated finish on the guard is corroded. The leather scabbard has some wear but is in good condition.
