JAPANESE SHIN-GUNTO SWORD - SIGNED with a fish skin and cord bound hilt, plain iron tsuba, copper gilt habaki, the saya is civilian of black lacquer and with a leather combat scabbard. Signed and translated to read Oshu Sendai (no) ju Fujiwara Kunikane saku (Fujiwara Kunikane made this living at Sendai in Rikuzen Province. It bears a date one lucky day in Keian fifth year, which would be 1653 Blade 66.5cms long, 96cms long overall. *This is a civilian sword probably adapted for use in WW2 for a Japanese Officer.

AN AMERICAN SOCIETY SWORD & SCABBARD. Having a gilt knights helmet pommel, with white ivorine grip decorated with masonic devices. The blade etched with knights and inset sloping crosses, skull and crossbones, etc. The blade marked The McLilley & Co , Columbus Ohio being 27.3/4" in length. The gilt decorated scabbard and croosguard inset with enamel sloping crosses. The legend 'Be Though Faithful unto Death and I will Give Thee a Crown of Life. The Knights of Ohio C 1900, in very clean condition with some loss of the enamel in places.

The knife is retained by a clip in the scabbard, the steel crossguard has ball ends and a diamond shape quillion. Horn hilt with steel pommel, having an overall length of 14.1/2". Stamped into the scabbard frog is E H Wenlo 108 Regt. There are listed in the USA 108th Regiment and also a Regiment in the the Indian Army. See Illustration

A Sheffield made Victorian Bowie knife with silvered mounts and white fluted grip. 10.1/4" classical shape blade with illegible makers mark of Sheffield, stamped with crossed keys/star/D marks each side. This was the mark of John Nowill & Sons of 17 Meadow Street, Sheffield, also 119 Scotland Street, Sheffield (1856) They were working between 1848 and 1920. Thin steel crossguard with traces of plating with a shell form pomme, having a shaped scabbard with large metal chafe. See Illustration

A BOWIE KNIFE WITH HORN HILT. A Bowie knife having an I* X L marked 10" blade, with clipped point, a nickel plated crossguard. Horn grips with rivetted fixings, complete with a brown leather scabbard and frog. the I*X L mark was used by George Wostenholm & Son who from 1847 worked at Washington Works, Sheffield. Famous for his Bowie Knives and trade with the USA, during the mid-late 1800's. From a family of cutlers he many times visited the USA, by sailing and later Steam Ships. Not all Americans liked the Bowie Knife, some thought them Barbaric and legislated to amend or ban them. See Illustration
