Original, wooden scabbard with fabric covering (very worn-out). length 68 cm.

Tang covered with silver foils, engraved with a figure, birds and geometrical motifs. WW1 Royal Naval Air Service RNAS 1914-1918 Officer's Sword.An extremely rare example of a RNAS Officer's Sword retailed through Gillott & Hasell of London. The sword follows the Royal Navy pattern, the slightly curved single edge blade is etched with a Royal Coat of Arms, with 'RNAS' below. The reverse etched with a Crown and Eagle device. The forte with retailers details. The hilt of RN pattern with lion head pommel and white shagreen grip. To the guard replacing the usual Crown and Anchor device is a Crown, Pair of Wings and 'RNAS'. Complete with black leather and gilt mounted scabbard. The overall condition is good three rust spots to the blade, gilt dulled.
