A Polish model 1921 Uhlan officer's sabre, manufactured by Gabriel Borowski, Warsaw, for light cavalry, with a brass hilt, the leather wrapped handle bound with brass wire, with a curved single edged blade with reeded sides, the side of the blade with etched decoration and inscribed 'Honor i Ojczyzna' (Honor and Fatherland), stamped to the bottom of the blade G. Borowski Warsaw, with a steel scabbard, 91cm longCondition report: Some tarnish to the blade. The handle with heavy patination. The scabbard with some dents. A PRESENTATION SCOTTISH BASKET HILTED BACK SWORD BY GILL, 83.5cm blade etched with scrolling foliage, a family crest and motto SERVA JUGUM, maker's panel GILL'S WARRANTED and a further passage of text Ghum Gindeachagh na am Bochd agns aig cummail na arn Beartich bho dbeanadh eacon, characteristic steel hilt composed of flattened rounded bars united with heart and circle pierced junction plates the two side plates overlaid with copper gilt panels decorated with the family crest and motto, one lacking, domed saltire pommel, wire bound grip, contained in its steel scabbard. Scabbard holed at the chape.
A SCARCE 17TH CENTURY SILVER HILTED ENGLISH HUNTING SWORD, 48cm slightly curved blade, characteristic hilt with D-shaped knuckle guard, the quillon and the mid-point of the guard decorated with horsemen and bearing a maker's stamp FS, probably Francis Springall, the pommel cap decorated with opposing profile busts and crowns, natural stag's horn grip, contained in its white metal mounted red leather wrapped wooden scabbard. Francis Springall operated at Three Legged Alley, circa 1690, scabbard mounts later replacements.
A GERMAN HUNTING HANGER, 46cm fullered blade decorated with a panel of scrolling foliage and geometric designs at the forte, a hound chasing a stag and a hound chasing a boar, characteristic white metal mounted hilt with recurved hoof form crossguard, the latter struck with a maker's mark, riveted two-piece natural horn grips, contained in its white metal mounted leather scabbard with companion knife.
THE MAJOR GEORGE CUNNINGHAM 2ND ROHILLA CAVALRY EAST INDIA COMPANY PRESENTATION SWORD, 73cm sharply curved clipped back T-section blade, the mameluke style white metal mounted hilt with lion's mask and mane crossguard with claw form quillons, two-piece riveted horn grips, the white metal back and fore strap decorated with geometric designs, contained in its white metal mounted leather wrapped scabbard, the upper mount with the presentation panel April 21st BAREILLY 1816. Major George Cunningham served with the 7th Bengal Native Infantry and Commanded the 2nd Rohilla Cavalry during the Bareilly Uprising of 1816. Cunningham retired in 1821 and died in 1838. This sword is famously depicted at the side of the recipient in the Portrait by James Howe which is now with the National Army Museum and hangs at Sandhurst. The image of Major George Cunningham reproduced in this catalogue is credited to the National Army Museum.
A RARE REGIMENTAL PATTERN OFFICER'S MAMELUKE TO THE 19TH LANCERS, 79cm clean clipped back blade etched with scrolling foliage, laurel wreaths, crowned stands of arms, battle honours, NIAGARA, SERINGAPATAM, ASSAYE, regimental motifs crossed lances over XIX LANCERS, regulation copper gilt hilt, the crossguard decorated with a stand of arms and an elephant to the front, two-piece riveted ivory grips, small repair, contained in its steel scabbard. A scarce mameluke to a regiment that only existed between September 1816 and September 1821.
A 9TH LANCER'S OFFICER'S MAMELUKE BY PROSSER, 80.5cm curved clipped back blade, double edge at the tip, etched with crowned crossed lances over IX over LANCERS, to either side, further etched with a maker's panel to either side PROSSER No. 9 Charing Cross LONDON, regulation gilt hilt, riveted two-piece ivory grips, contained in its stippled gilt mounted red velvet wrapped wooden scabbard with woven silver seam. Minor grey staining, one grip scale cracked.
A GEORGIAN SILVER MOUNTED CAVALRY OFFICER'S MAMELUKE, 83.5cm curved fullered blade, sharpened for use, characteristic silver hilt finely chiselled with scrolling foliage, crescents, acanthus scrolls and geometric forms, two-piece ebonised grips secured by ovoid foliate rivets, contained in its silver mounted red velvet wrapped wooden scabbard decorated to match. Silver hallmarks are for 1825 and maker's stamp of ID AD - John and Archibald Douglas.
AN EARLY 19TH CENTURY INDIAN CAVLARY OFFICER'S MAMELUKE, 80.5cm curved clipped back blade with traces of gold calligraphy or talismanic symbols along the back edge, gilt hilt decorated with chevrons and acanthus leaves, triple gilt rosette riveted ivory grips, contained in its gilt mounted leather wrapped wooden scabbard, decorated to match. Just above the forte there appear to be traces of an umbrella form maker's panel which would suggest that this is a trophy blade. See Pg 109 Plate 12.2 of The British Cavalry Sword 1788-1912 by Richard Dellar for a not dissimilar example.
A GEORGIAN VOLUNTEER OFFICER'S SABRE OF 1796 TYPE, 82cm curved blade with traces of etched Royal arms and scrolling foliage, highlighted in gilt, generally stained, copper gilt stirrup hilt, chequered ebonised grip, contained in its copper gilt mounted leather scabbard, the upper mount engraved with a maker's panel for JOHNSTON LATE BLAND & FOSTER.
A 1796 PATTERN HEAVY CAVALRY TROOPER'S SWORD TO THE ROYAL SCOTS GREYS (2ND DRAGOONS), 88cm blade with hatchet point, various edge nicks, stamped REDDELL on the back edge, regulation disc hilt, langets removed, D-shaped knuckle guard incised 2D. DS. KNo 47, ribbed wooden grip, chipped and split. Scabbard lacking. The 2nd Dragoons or Royal Scots Greys took part in the pivotal charge of the Heavy Brigade at Waterloo.

A VERY RARE FIELD MARSHALL'S MAMELUKE TO THE FIRST BARON WILLIAM NICHOLSON GCB, 81.5cm clean curved blade with clipped back tip, etched with scrolling foliage, crowned GVR cypher and crowned crossed batons within a laurel wreath, all on a matt grey ground, stamped with the serial no. 04594 on the back edge, regulation gilt hilt incorporating crossed batons within a laurel wreath to either side, rosette riveted two-piece ivory grips, contained in its hallmarked silver scabbard, William Briggs & Co. London 1914. William Nicholson served in the Second Anglo-Afghan War, Mahdist War, Third Anglo-Burmese War, Second Boer War and the First World War finishing with the rank of Field Marshal and was Chief of the Imperial General Staff. Since the establishment of the Rank of Field Marshal in 1736 there have only been 141 appointments.

A GOOD HOUSEHOLD CAVALRY TROOPER'S SWORD BY WILKINSON, 88cm clean blade, stamped with the serial no. 112255, regulation pierced plated steel hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel scabbard, complete with buff liner and knot. The presence of two loose rings to the scabbard has been suggested as a modification used by dismounted troops at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana.
AN 1821 PATTERN KING'S DRAGOON GUARDS OFFICER'S SWORD AND KNOT ENSEMBLE, 89cm pipe-backed blade with spear point, by Andrews, etched with crowned GRIV cyphers and laurel wreaths, regulation honeysuckle pierced steel hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel scabbard complete with rare bullion knot embroidered with a crown and KDG.
A 7TH QUEEN'S HUSSARS OFFICER'S SWORD TO MAJOR GENERAL JOHN VAUGHAN CB DSO OF OMDURMAN CHARGE FAME, 87cm blade etched with scrolling foliage, crowned regimental device for the 7th Hussars, crowned regimental device for the 10th Hussars, crowned VR cypher, owner's initials and maker's panel for Wilkinson, serial no. 30719, regulation pierced steel hilt with patent-solid grip, contained in its field service scabbard complete with knot. Major General John Vaughan graduated from Sandhurst in 1891 and immediately joined the 7th Hussars, serving in the Matabele, Mashonaland and Sudan wars. Most famously he participated in the charge of the 21st Lancers at Omdurman in 1898. During the Second Boer war, now promoted to Captain he was thrice mentioned in dispatches and received the DSO. By 1908 Vaughan was Lieutenant-Colonel of the 10th Hussars. During the First War he commanded the 3rd Cavalry Brigade and later as Major-General the 3rd Cavalry Division and went on to be mentioned in dispatches, earned a bar to his DSO and was made a companion of the Order of the Bath by the end of the War.

A 1ST DURHAM VOLUNTEER RIFLE CORPS PRESENTATION SWORD, 82cm slightly curved blade profusely etched with scrolling foliage, stands of arms, oak leaves, laurel sprays, a figure of Victory, strung bugle horns, a crowned VR cypher and PRESENTED TO CAPTAIN THOMPSON BY THE EFFECTIVE MEMBERS OF THE FIRST DURHAM VOLUNTEER RIFLE CORPS AS A TOKEN OF THEIR ESTEEM AND REGARD AND IN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF HIS ZEAL AND ENERGY IN PROMOTING THE WELFARE OF THE CORPS APRIL 1861, pierced and plated hilt decorated with scrolling foliage, oak leaves and laurel sprays, regimental devices and the arms of the city, silver wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its plated steel scabbard with pierced foliate mounts decorated to match, complete with silver bullion knot.

Probably the sword of Captain W. D. G. Batten of the 3rd Gurkha Rifles. (2)

Probably the sword of J.W.M Batten of the 3rd Gurkha Rifles.
A SCARCE VICTORIAN RIFLE OFFICER'S SWORD TO THE ROBIN HOOD RIFLES, 82cm blade by Wilkinson, serial no. 10045, finely etched with scrolling foliage, flowerheads, crowned VR cypher, strung bugle horns, ROBIN HOOD RIFLES, the coat of arms of Nottingham City and a maker's panel at the forte, regulation plated hilt incorporating a crowned strung bugle horn, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel scabbard complete with knot. The serial no. pertains to a purchase by a Mr J. Hetherington on the 11th of November 1859.
AN 1897 PATTERN INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD, 83cm blade etched with scrolling foliage, crowned Royal arms, crowned GVR cypher, and retailer's panel for Harrods Ltd, regulation pierced plated hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its black leather wrapped wooden scabbard complete with knot, together with a Victorian Lancashire Volunteer Rifles officer's sword etched with scrolling foliage, regimental title and motifs, and owner's name Joseph Whittam. A VERY RARE 1822 PATTERN 1ST FOOT (GRENADIER) GUARDS SERGEANT'S SWORD, 73cm pipe backed blade with spear point etched with a maker's panel NUTTING LONDON, the brass hilt with D-shaped knuckle guard incorporating a flaming grenade within the garter belt and motto of the 1st Grenadiers, bold lion's head pommel, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its engraved brass mounted black leather scabbard. See page 221 of Swords of the British Army by Robson. Interestingly the company of Nutting were principally button makers based in Covent Garden and Regent Street and were contracted suppliers to the Grenadier Guards.
A SCARCE ROYAL SCOTS FUSILIERS REGIMENTAL PATTERN OFFICER'S SWORD, 82cm pipe backed blade by Moore etched with regimental motifs and titles, regulation copper hilt incorporating the regimental title, motto and motif, contained in an associated scabbard with brass and copper mounts, quillon lacking, hilt loose, grip worn, together with a reproduction naval officer's sword and scabbard, and a reproduction 1831 pattern general officer's sword and scabbard. AN AMERICAN CIVIL WAR PERIOD CAVALRY TROOPER'S SWORD, 89cm clean blade by Charles Hammond, regulation brass hilt, one side bar professionally removed, ribbed leather grip, contained in its steel scabbard. Charles Hammond, a tool manufacturer in Philadelphia, had government contracts for 5000 axes and 5000 hatchets but appears to have also made a small number of swords.

A LIGHT WEIGHT 1885 PATTERN CAVALRY OFFICER'S SWORD, 78.5cm curved blade, regulation pierced steel bowl guard, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel scabbard. The light weight nature of this sword combined with the grip composition would suggest either an Officer's or NCO's sword.

OF KOREAN WAR INTEREST AN RAF OFFICER'S SWORD AND EPHEMERA, 82cm clean blade by Wilkinson, serial no. 99194, etched with scrolling foliage, crowned Royal arms and crowned RAF device, regulation pierced brass hilt incorporating an EIIR cypher and the RAF device, eagle's head pommel, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its brass mounted leather scabbard, complete with knot, together with assorted RAF devices and badges and a Korean War medal, F/LT J. MAPPIN. Sword associated with the grouping.
A 5TH KENT ARTILLERY VOLUNTEERS PRESENTATION SWORD, 88cm blade finely etched, virtually to the tip, with panels of scrolling foliage, crowned Royal arms, crowned VR cypher, regimental motifs, owner's crest, initials and motto and the presentation inscription, PRESENTED TO MALCOLM B DE B BARNETT, ON HIS ATTAINING THE RANK OF MAJOR BY LIEUT. COLL. BRANDRAM, THE OFFICERS, NON-COMMISSIONED PFFICERS AND GUNNERS OF THE 5TH KENT ARTILLERY VOLUNTEERS, AS A TOKEN OF THEIR HIGH APPRECIATION OF HIS SERVICES, AND OF THEIR ESTEEM AND RESPECT FOR HIM. JUNE 1874, the cast silver hilt profusely pierced and decorated with scrolling foliage, flowerheads, crossed cannons, crowned Regimental title, owner's crest and surname, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its plated steel scabbard decorated with panels of scrolling foliage, owner's crest and motto. Malcolm B. de Berry Barnett was promoted Lieutenant-Colonel on the 29th of October 1879.
