A 19th Century Batak ''Piso Halasan'' (Sword), Sumatra, the 45.5cm straight back steel blade with slightly curved single edge, with ringed brass waisted collar and detached polished deer horn curved grip, the brass covered wood scabbard with beaded oblong cross-piece, star engraved decoration and curved tip (af) **The grip bears old inventory number 21There is pitting and black patching to the blade surface. The tang has broken off into the horn/antler grip which has age cracks and is detached, the mendak is missing. The mouth of the scabbard has some loss of the brass mount. The brass mounts on the scabbard have minor dings.
