A late 19th century Spanish light cavalry sword, very slightly curved, fullered blade 34”, with crowned double headed eagle mark of “Ballestebos, Toledo” on one side at forte, and stamped “K458/AE” on the other, steel hilt with knucklebow, sideloop and 2 sidebars, stepped pommel, plain backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its steel scabbard with single ring. Basically GC (blade some wear, hilt and scabbard rusted).
A Geo V officer’s sword of The Royal Artillery, almost straight, fullered blade 35”, by Joseph Ridge & Co, Sheffield, etched with crowned GVR cypher on one side and “Royal Artillery” with winged lightning on the other, in scrolled, foliate panels, plated hilt with sideloop, knucklebow and 2 sidebars, plain pommel, chequered backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its dark leather FS scabbard with frog. GC, the blade retaining much original polish (one or two small rust spots, some wear to hilt plating, outer bar slightly bent). Plate 9

GC, dark patina to hilt and scabbard (pitted overall). Plate 9
A good similar US cavalry trooper’s sword, d 1868, blade 35”, round backed and marked “US 1864 A.G.M” on one side at forte, and “C. Roby, W Chelmsford, Mass” on the other, brass guard with shallow reinforced edges, slightly swollen brass wirebound leather grip, in its unlined scabbard. VGC and evidently unissued (light rust to scabbard). Plate 9
An Artillery officer’s sword, c 1875, very slightly curved blade 32½”, etched with winged lightning on one side, and grenade with cannon on the other, in scrolled panels, regulation steel hilt with knucklebow, sideloop and 2 sidebars, stepped pommel, chequered thumbpiece, wirebound fishkin grip, in its steel scabbard with 2 rings. Basically GC (some wear overall, light pitting to hilt and scabbard).
A 1786 pattern infantry officer’s sword, SE fullered blade 32”, marked “J J Runkel, Solingen” on backstrap, and etched with crowned GR cypher, R Arms, stylized pineapple and foliage, blued and gilt for one third length, brass stirrup hilt, retaining a little original gilt, with crossguard and wavy sideloop enclosing a pierced heart, ring to top of knucklebow, facetted swollen pommel, chequered panelled ebony grip with central band engraved in oval on the outer side with crowned “LLV” (Loyal Lancaster, Leyland, Lynn?) and the inner side with owner’s initials “T.P”, in its brass mounted leather scabbard (repaired) with 2 rings, the locket engraved “Bennett, Sword Cutler to the Prince of Wales, 67 Royal Exchange”. GC, the blade retaining approx 75% original blueing and gilding and polish (light pitting marks to edges). Plate 9
A Vic 1845 pattern infantry officer’s sword, very slightly curved, fullered, blade 32½”, by Wilkinson no 7429 (for 1855) on backstrap, etched with crowned VR cypher in tightly scrolled panels on both sides, and owner’s name “Lieutenant Henry St Maur Wynch” in scrolls near forte, regulation brass hilt incorporating crowned VR cypher, stepped pommel, plain backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in associated brass scabbard (sword does not fully enter) with 2 rings. Basically GC (worn overall, scabbard dented)
A Saxony sidearm, c 1845, SE blade 18½”, slightly swollen at hatchet point, solid iron hilt with shallow S shaped crossguard, the grip ribbed on the inner edge, plain pommel and backstrap, in its iron mounted leather scabbard with small stud chape and iron locket with belt tang, the tang and crossguard marked en suite “123 R.7.58” GC, a clean example
A Vic 1854 pattern officer’s levee sword of the Scots Guards, very slightly curved, fullered blade 32”, by Wilkinson, no 7844 (for 1856) on backstrap, etched with crowned VR cypher, crowned regimental badge and 9 battle honour scrolls “Egypt” and Sphinx to “Sevastopol”, in foliate panels, plated hilt incorporating regimental badge, stepped pommel, chequered thumbpiece to backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip in its plated scabbard with 2 rings. GC (hilt and scabbard replated). Plate 9

A mixed group of bone paper-knives and sheaths comprising: a matched pair, each with dragon handle, curved single-edged blade, scabbard with landscape and erotic scene; one larger with dragon-head pommel and masks to the handle, scabbard with high-relief scene of a dragon and phoenix, geometric panels to the reverse. Property of an American gentleman; acquired on the London art market in the 1990s. 703 grams total, 28-37.5cm (11 - 14 3/4"). [3, No Reserve] Fine condition, larger blade detached.
