George V Royal Company of Archers Kings Bodyguard of Scotland Court Sword, superb example of the gilt metal court sword pattern as carried by members of the Royal Company of Archers Kings Bodyguard of Scotland. Gilt metal clamshell guard with silvered thistle insignia, gilt knuckle guard leading to the patterned pommel. Silver wire bound grip. Attached to the guard is the original brocade and bullion dress sword knot with green velvet backing. Housed in the original leather scabbard with three gilt mounts. Slender blade by J Stewart & Son Edinburgh. Blade is etched with foliage, crowned GRV cipher and ribbons with “ROYAL COMPANY ARCHERS KINGS BODY GUARD”. Blade and exterior remain in near mint condition with nearly all the gilt wash finish remaining to the fittings. Blade measures 81 ¼ cms, overall 98 ½ cms. A superb example. Ex Bennett collection

Edward VII 1821 Pattern Officers Sword of the Army Service Corps, regulation pattern officers sword with three bar guard leading to patterned pommel and plain back strap. Grip retaining the original covering and wire binding. Housed in its brown leather field service scabbard. Attached to the scabbard is a brown leather sword frog. Polished regulation blade with crowned EVII cipher, regimental badge of the Army Service Corps and foliage. Retailed by J R Gaunt & Son. Blade 90cms, overall 107 ½ cms. Some wear to the lower part of the scabbard and the blade heavily polished but otherwise a good example.
British 1821 Pattern Light Cavalry Sword, regulation pattern with steel three bar hilt, leading to steeped pommel and plain back strap. Wire bound fish skin grip. Housed in its steel scabbard with two hanging rings. Slightly curved pipe backed blade. No markings to the blade. The blade measures 90 ¼ cms, overall 106 ½ cms. Exterior with surface rusting.

George V 1897 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword, good example of a regulation pattern officers sword with George V cipher to the guard. Leather bound grip with wire binding. Housed in its brown leather field service scabbard with the original leather sword frog in place. Attached to the sword is the original leather sword knot. Regulation blade with etched decoration and crowned GRV monogram. Some light staining to the blade. The blade measures 82 ½ cms, overall 103cms.
WW1 Period 1908 Pattern Cavalry Troopers Sword, good untouched example of a regulation pattern sword with the large solid dish knuckle guard, one piece grip with crosshatch pattern. Housed in its steel scabbard with two fixed hanging rings. Regulation blade with issue markings to the base of the blade. The blade measures 88cms, overall 111cms. Some light surface pitting to the exterior fittings but generally a good example of the iconic cavalry sword as carried and used in the early cavalry charges in the Great War.
WW2 Japanese Naval Officers Dirk, with brass mounted hilt, shallow “S” shaped cross guard, floral pommel top, fish skin grip with floral stud. Housed in its original scabbard having press stud release button, floral brass mounts and two suspension rings. Blade with some light staining and pitting towards the tip. Blade measures 25cms, overall 40cms.
British 1907 Hooked Quillon Bayonet by Wilkinson Regimentally Marked to the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, good untouched example with the top pommel being stamped “A&S H R 956”, wooden two piece grips and hooked quillon muzzle ring. Housed in a 2nd pattern leather scabbard with steel mounts. Blade marked with crowned 1907, acceptance stamps and WILKINSON. Fuller to the back edge of the blade. Some surface rusting to the metal fittings of the hilt and scabbard, some stitching faults to the scabbard. Blade 43cms, overall 56 ½ cms.
WW2 Italian Carcano Carbine Folding Bayonet, fine example of the bayonet issued to Italian forces during WW2, with two piece wooden grips, housed in its steel scabbard. Blade with fuller to the back edge. Accompanied by Portuguese M/938 Bayonet as used on the MP-34 submachine gun, fine example in mint un-issued condition with “SIMSON & CO SUHL” makers mark. WW1 British Trench Knife Belonging to Lieutenant-Colonel Hector Fraser Whitehead DSO & Bar 23rd (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers and Later Commanded the 1/4th Berkshire Regiment, fine example of an alloy handled private purchase trench knife which is engraved in typical WW1 style to the back edge of the handle “CAPT. H. F. WHITEHEAD 23RD BN NTH’D FUS.” Fixed knife type blade which has makers details of “S. HIBBERT & SON SHEFFIELD”. Complete with the original leather scabbard and securing strap. Knife shows some wear. Hector Fraser Whitehead was commissioned into the 23rd battalion Tyneside Scottish Northumberland Fusiliers in 1914. He later transferred to the East Lancashire regiment before taking over command of the 1/4th Berkshire regiment. He was awarded the DSO in 1918 and the bar to the award shortly after. He was also awarded the French Croix de Guerre. He was severely wounded on the Somme. The DSO and Bar were awarded whilst in command during the battle of St Quentin in 1918.

The blade is of typical Scottish dirk form with scalloped top edge. Wooden grip which has been bound and a leather covered wooden scabbard. The blade measures 19cms, overall 31cms.
WW1 British Trench Knife Made from Cut Down Lee Metford Bayonet, interesting field made trench knife being made mostly from a Lee Metford bayonet. Wooden grips with two brass rivet fittings, large brass ball top pommel, cut down bayonet cross guard and housed in a modified cut down scabbard with a large brown leather wrist / leg strap fitted. Sharpened Lee Metford pattern knife blade with the VR acceptance stamps etc. Blade measures 19 ½ cms, overall 34 ½ cms.
WW1 Welsh Machine Gunners Knife, excellent quality reproduction of the very rare pattern knife used by WW1 Welsh Machine Gunners, often referred to as a “Welsh Knife”. Large swollen blade with central ridge. Engraved to the blade “DROS URDDAS CYMRU” (For the Honour of Wales). Steel pointed pommel, rope covered grip and circular folding guard. Housed in a canvas covered leather scabbard. Knife shows some wear. Blade 44cms, overall 62 ½ cms.
WW2 British B2 Fairbairn Sykes (F.S) Commando Knife and Archive Belonging to Captain Douglas James Cotton Minchin 43rd Royal Marines Commando, Formerly Scottish Rifles and Royal Air Force, Killed in Action 15th March 1945, fine example of a brass hilted B2 pattern Fairbairn Sykes (F.S) commando knife with the oval guard stamped with broad arrow and “B2”. Housed in the original leather scabbard with brass lower chape, tabs removed from the scabbard but the securing tab is still in place. Un-marked double edged stiletto blade with medial ridge. Some surface staining and expected wear. Blade measures 15 ½ cms, overall 30cms. Accompanying the knife is his officers Sam Browne belt and a small archive of original handwritten letters from Captain Cotton Minchin, mostly written to his mother and family members, from the early 1940’s period, a small hand written diary and a number of photographs, some of him in uniform of the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), paperwork from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission also. An interesting grouping. The Commando Veterans association gives the following details about his career, “Captain Douglas Cotton Minchin was missing reported presumed killed after his patrol prior to the planned attack at Lake Comacchio, Italy, came under fire. He had earlier served with 12 Commando on the Lofoten raid, and had also been Chief Instructor at the Commando Basic Training Centre. Douglas Cotton Minchin was in the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). He served briefly in the RAF before returning at his own request to the Army. He was later attached as a Lieutenant to No.12 Commando for a period of time before becoming Chief Instructor at the CBTC, Achnacarry. In 1944 he was posted overseas to the CMF after a brief spell at the HOC. From the 7th October 1944 he was an Instructor at the 2 Commando Brigade Training Centre at Bari. On the 2nd February1945 he was attached as a personal advisor to 43 RM Commando and was subsequently killed in action on the 15th March 1945. He therefore has the unique status of having been attached at some stage prior to his death to the Army, RAF, and the Royal Navy.”
WW2 British Fairbairn Sykes (F.S) Commando Knife, fine example of a blackened plated 2nd pattern type commando knife with chequered grip and plain oval guard. Well used / sharpened stiletto blade with medial ridge, sharpened to make the blade much thinner, a trait that is common on combat used knives. The dagger is housed in a later leather scabbard with metal stud fittings stamped “U E”. The dagger blade 16 ½ cms, overall 32 ½ cms.

A FINE EARLY 18TH CENTURY NAVAL PRESENTATION DIRK, awarded to Captain James Dunbar from His Highness the Duke of Sussex, having a jade hilt with gilt brass furniture and scroll quillions, the eastern fluted blade adapted to fit a traditional black leather scabbard with brass mounts.The Duke of Sussex was the 6th child of George III, Prince Augustus Frederick (1773-1843).Captain James Dunbar served in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. He was appointed Post Captain in 1802 and finished in 1809 and made Baronet in 1814.
