A post 1902 RN officer’s sword, almost straight blade 31½”, by Friedeberg & Co Naval Outfitter Portsmouth, etched with crowned fouled anchor on one side and crowned R Arms on the other in scrolled panels, regulation brass hilt with crowned fouled anchor, turn down inner portion which locks to scabbard, lion’s head pommel and backstrap, wirebound sharkskin grip, with knot, in its brass mounted leather scabbard with 2 rings. Basically GC (blade heavily cleaned, point AF).
A Czech officer’s sword, slightly curved, fullered blade 30½”, with maker’s stamp of “Wlaszlovits” at forte, WM semi basket slotted guard, bearing lion in shield and stylized ivy wreath on a frosted background, engraved top to plated pommel and backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its plated (some wear and bubbling) scabbard with loop. A 19th century Italian cavalry trooper’s sword, slightly curved, fullered blade 34”, sheet steel half basket guard with turn over inner edge and large tear shaped cut out slot, cap shaped pommel, wirebound leather grip (replaced), in its steel scabbard with single ring. Basically GC (some wear, old black paint to hilt and scabbard)
A German state sidearm c 1850, heavy blade, slightly swollen towards hatchet point, 19”, with crowned Gothic “JR” stamp on one side at forte, and “P.D.L” in oval on the other, solid brass hilt with flattened shallow S shaped crossguard, plain backstrap and pommel with prominent stud, ribbed grip, in its leather (worn) scabbard with brass locket and chape, crossguard and locket with matching crossed out stamps “12.A.F.I.146”. A US Model 1892 bayonet for the Krag Jorgensen rifle, the blade dated 1899, in its scabbard with steel belt attachment, GC; a WWI German 37mm pom pom shell case with explosive shell in fired condition; 3 other small shell cases; 11 1940 War Edition linen backed OS maps, mostly of northern England; 3 similar part maps of Moscow, Berlin and Frankfurt; 2 other maps; and a map/poster, “The Eastern Gates”, of the Baltic States etc, and on the other side a propaganda poster showing caricature sketches of the German leaders, photographs of the Russian and allied leaders, map of Europe etc. Average GC
A good 19th century Sudanese sword kaskara, broad flat DE blade 37½”, with central fuller, triple for 1/3rd length, etched overall with repeated stylized inscription in panels, brass crossguard with langets and flared terminals, polished leather bound grip up to disc pommel, plain wooden top, in its panelled and crosshatched leather scabbard, swollen towards copper tipped point, with 2 rings in pronounced bands. A god 19th century Sumatran sword klewang, curved swollen blade 29½”, with hatchet point, small circular brass guard and banded grip, polished dark bifurcated top to hilt with pierced and carved decoration, in its polished, flattened darkwood scabbard with 5 broad copper bands and 3 panels of crosshatched decoration; see Stone’s Glossary p 362, No 6, for similar. An officer’s 1821 pattern sword of the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons, very slightly curved blade 35½”, by “Jones, Chalk & Dawson, Sackville St London W” no 1400 on backstrap, etched with flat topped crowned, reversed and interlaced VR cypher on one side and on the other similar crowned “6”, “Inniskilling” castle and “Dragoons” on the other, all in stylized foliate panels, pierced scroll pattern steel guard, chequered pommel and backstrap, including fishskin grip, red cloth on buff leather lining with blue edging, crimson and gilt dress knot, in its polished steel scabbard with 2 rings. A good US cavalry trooper’s sword, of French style, possibly Civil War period, curved fullered blade 35½”, with traces of maker’s name at forte, narrow back fuller to centre section, brass hilt with oval guard, knucklebow and 2 sidebars, cap shaped pommel, ribbed leather grip, in its steel scabbard with 2 rings, no “49” to top side of knucklebow. An early 20th century Moroccan Kabyle sword flyssa, almost straight slender single edged blade 30”, with panels of brass inlaid triangular tooth decoration along the top on both sides, octagonal section brass grip and squared stylized dog’s head pommel engraved with panels of toothed and cross hatch decoration, in its darkwood scabbard, the outer face carved with similar panels. Good Condition Plate 64
A George V courtsword, slender hollow triangular section blade 32” etched with crowned GVR cypher and wreath in scrolled and foliate panels, facetted and studded steel hilt with turn down shell guard, small pas d’ane rings, crossguard and knucklebow, urn shaped pommel with prominent stud, slightly swollen panelled grip, in its steel mounted leather scabbard, the locket with single ring, and chape. An interesting Wilkinson P1907 presentation bayonet, of standard pattern, with maker’s and ordnance inspector’s stamps at forte, the blade etched on one side “Presented to J. Clayton by the Wilkinson Sword Co Ltd on the completion of 2,000,000 bayonets, 1915-1918” within scrolled fenestrated panels, in its leather scabbard with khaki webbing frog. Very Good Condition Plate 64.
A George VI General officer’s sword with hallmarked silver scabbard, slender slightly curved blade 30”, etched with crowned GVIR cypher and wreath on one side and on the other crowned crossed baton and sword with wreath, all in scrolled foliate panels, regulation hilt, the ornamental gilt crossguard incorporating crossed baton and sword in wreath, studs to ivory grips, in its silver scabbard with 2 rings in cruciform mounts Hallmarked “WB & Co London 1914”. Very Good Condition Plate 64
A good Elizabeth II diplomat’s sword, slender ovoid section blade, 32½” with “Wilkinson, Sword, London”logo at forte and etched with crowned ERII cypher in scrolled floral and foliate panels, gilt hilt with studded borders to turn down shell guard, crossguard with turn down finials, knucklebow, flattened urn pommel and square section grip, gilt knot and bullion tassel, in its gilt mounted leather scabbard with buff leather frog and white linen shoulder strap, in chamois lined leatherette case. An Elizabeth II Royal Air Force officer’s dress sword, straight fullered blade 32½”, by Wilkinson Sword Ltd, no 94450 on backstrap, etched on one side with crowned Royal Arms and on the other with RAF crowned wings, all its foliate and blank scroll panels, gilt brass hilt with half basket guard with turn over inner edge, pierced and panelled incorporating crowned ERII cypher and crowned wings on raised oval, eagle’s head pommel, plain backstrap, wirebound white sharkskin grip, in its black polished leather scabbard with gilt locket, middle band and chape, with 2 rings, blue and gilt dress knot. A most interesting late 18th century Italian cavalry officer’s presentation sword, broad curved shallow fullered blade 32”, with maker’s name “F. Chuggi Brescia” on backstrap, and etched on one side “Martinengo Colleoni L’Ainé” and on the other “Gage d’Amitieé” with small floral sprays, elaborate steel stirrup hilt with slender langets, forward sloping cap shaped pommel and plain backstrap, crossguard and knucklebow pierced with chain link panels overall, floral quillon, pommel cap embossed with trophy of fasces and flags, the top of the backstrap with demon’s head, wirebound grip, in its leather scabbard covered overall with pierced steel chain link panels, with short open centre section and solid panels to locket and chape, 2 suspension rings. A Georgian light cavalry officer’s sword, broad, curved, shallow fullered blade 29½”, etched with crowned GR cypher, simple trophy of arms and floral flourishes on one side and on the other with dismounted dragoon waving his sword and floral wreaths, gilt brass stirrup hilt with quillon and langets, facetted knucklebow, plain rounded pommel and backstrap, diced ivory grip (few small cracks and small chip), in its leather scabbard with locket, centre band and chape, with 2 rings, the gilt locket with oval engraved mark of “Salter, 35 Strand, Jeweller & Sword Cutler”. An unusual 18th century hunting sidearm, slightly curved single edged blade 21”, fullered with narrow back fuller for ¾ length to point, etched with panel of arms and flags on both sides at forte, and warrior, shining sun, trophies, hound and flourishes, gilt brass hilt with flat oval cap to top of blade which fits over the scabbard locket, panel engraved flared crossguard, corners to square section ivory grip and cap pommel, in its panelled leather scabbard with panel engraved brass mounts and 2 rings, the locket marked “Drury, 32 Strand, London” Good Condition, the long chape a later replacement. A Highland full dress dirk, polished blade 11½”, with scalloped back edge and narrow fuller for two thirds length, well carved strapwork, bog oak hilt with studs, thistle embossed silver coloured lower band and rim to facetted “citrine” pommel, in its black leather scabbard with scroll engraved silver coloured mounts, the locket with escutcheon engraved with a script “M”, companion knife and fork en suite with hilt, set with “citrines”. A Turkish sword, shamshir, c 1800, slender, sharply curved blade 31½”, brass crossguard with pointed bud terminals and slender langets, simple border engraving overall brown wood grip of traditional “pistol grip” form, the top pierced for silk wristcord, in its scabbard with leather covered centre section and long sheet brass locket and chape with panelled edges, the locket incorporating a sprung section (AF) to allow withdrawal of blade, 2 suspension rings.
