An early 20th century Japanese short sword, having a bound fishskin grip, with a mixed metal terminal, decorated with a bird in relief, shaped tsuba, curved steel blade, in a painted scabbard, 83cm longLooks to be complete but is generally dirty and unrestored. The fishskin has split under the binding. We have removed the handle and it is complete but not signed underneath. The scabbard has been overpainted black and the clip does not fix it onto the blade correctly.

The guard and grip show signs of being polished many times, the wire binding and fish skin are generally good however one strand of wire has come loose. The blade has overall pitting and the decoration is very faint. It is straight (when sighted along the spine) and has very minor nicks to the cutting edge. The scabbard leather has broken in two, the leather is perishing in several other places.
