We believe that this sword was either captured or presented by a Russian foreign volunteer who joined the German Wehrmacht. The German armed forces in Eastern Europe and the Baltic countries such as Yugoslavia etc, were heavily interrupted by the activities of the Partisan fighters, such was the issue that the Waffen-SS and the German Wehrmacht, produced a number of very small dedicated units who were responsible for finding and wiping out the partisan cells, many times with ruthless aggression, with many of the units and their commanders eventually being tried for war crimes after the war. Items and information relating to these small Anti-Partisan units is hard to find. This actual sword was once part of the George Robinson collection and an article about the sword was written in the collectors magazine the Military Advisor, sadly we do not have a copy of this magazine to reference.
