A Vic 1827 pattern rifle officer`s sword, almost straight, fullered blade 32½", by Wilkinson, no 6987 (for 1855) on backstrap, etched with crowned blank escutcheon, VR cypher, strung bugle, and wreath within tightly scrolled panels, owner`s crest in ornamental panel and name "I Morton Jeffery" on scroll, regulation steel hilt incorporating crowned strung bugle, stepped pommel and backstrap with chequered panel, in its steel scabbard with 2 rings. GC (minor wear and pitting, some wear to grip fishskin, scabbard dented). Plate 9
A late 18th century silver hilted spadroon, the straight SE blade cut down to 16½" during its working life, etched with Royal Arms, crown over "GRIII" and scrolls, silver hilt with 5 ball knucklebow (well replaced), ball finial to crosspiece (replaced inverted), typical squared pommel and band engraved with number "15", the grip of fluted ebony, in its silver mounted leather scabbard with 2 hanging rings. Basically GC (patches of deep pitting to blade, scabbard worn, chape battered)
An 1899 pattern cavalry trooper`s sword, slightly curved, fullered blade 33½", marked `/99 on backstrap with various stamps at forte, regulation steel semi bowl guard with reinforced inner edge, marked SY210, diced leather grips, in its steel scabbard with opposing rings, old khaki paint to inside of guard and scabbard. GC, the blade clean. Plate 8
A scarce Royal Engineers Driver`s sword, c 1855, curved, fullered blade 34½" with German marks on backstrap and Liege Inspectors stamp and govt. sale mark at forte, heavy steel hilt with knucklebow, turned up sideguard, and sidebar joined to knucklebow by flat bar, plain pommel and backstrap with ears, ribbed leather grip, provision for finger loop (missing), in its steel scabbard with 2 rings; see Robson (revised) p 237-9. The blade good (heavy rust to hilt and scabbard, but worthy of careful cleaning)

Basically GC (hilt and scabbard worn and dented)
An 1845 pattern infantry officer`s sword of The Rifle Brigade, almost straight slender fullered blade 32½", by Wilkinson (no no. on backstrap) etched with crowned VR cypher, "Rifle Brigade" and strung bugle within scrolled foliate panels, and owner`s coronet over "G" reversed "E" monogram, regulation triple bar brass hilt with traces of gilt, incorporating crowned VR cypher, turn down inner portion, in a plated (worn) scabbard with 2 rings. Basically GC (some wear, grip AF) Note: The sword of Lt Col the Hon Gilbert Elliot, ADC to Sir George Cathcart during the S African War 1852-53, and Dep Asst QMG to the 4th Division in the Crimea; details with lot.
A scarce Ed VIII 1897 pattern infantry officer`s sword, straight blade 32½", etched with crowned R Arms, EVIIIR cypher and wreath within tightly scrolled floral and foliate panels, regulation plated hilt incorporating crowned EVIIIR cypher, wirebound fishskin grip, chequered backstrap, with leather knot in its leather FS scabbard. Near VGC, the blade retaining most original polish (a few small rust patches to edges). Plate 9
A late 19th century French cavalry trooper`s sword, slightly curved, fullered blade 33", marked Manufacture d`Armes de Chatellerault JH on backstrap with various stamps at forte, regulation pierced and slotted steel semi bowl guard, forward sloping cap shaped pommel, ribbed shaped composition grip, in its black painted steel scabbard with single ring, stamped 1/EG/168 on guard and 2E/396 on scabbard. GC Plate 8

QGC (scabbard AF, hilt rebound with tape); and another kaskara, with 33½" blade, the hilt with crocodile skin covered grip. GC (no pommel). (2)

GC Plate 8 Note: The sword of Capt John George Rennie, Lt Black Watch, 1886, Capt 1893, served in Sudan (MID), and throughout the Boer War (MID, Queen`s medal, 5 clasps and King`s medal, 2 clasps,), was awarded the DSO in 1901 "In recognition of services during operations in South Africa".
