A late 19th century courtsword, slender triangular section blade 301/2", by J Campbell Latham & Co, etched with foliate panels, polished steel hilt with shell guard, pas d'ane rings, knucklebow, urn shaped pommel and grip, decorated overall with facetted studs, in its steel mounted leather scabbard. A Hitler Youth (Hitler Jugend) standard knife, nickel plated alloy hilt with two checkered bakelite grips, on the obverse grip the red, black and white diamond insignia of the 'HJ' is inset, post 1938, the single edged blade engraved ' H & F Lauterjung Solingen', the unadorned scabbard is sheet metal and painted black with leather belt loop and retainer, overall approximately 24.5cm (9 1/2in)
An Imperial German cavalry officer’s sword, plated blade 34" stamped “No 9” at forte, etched with trophies, horse’s head and scrolls, and within panels “Kavallerie-Regiment 13 Luneburg”, and cavalry charge scene; plated steel stirrup hilt with silver wire bound black grip, in a non original black painted scabbard (2" too short). GC (scabbard paint bubbling)
A Vic infantry field officer’s 1845 pattern sword, slightly curved, fullered blade 32”, by Buckmaster, No 15027, etched with crowned VR cypher, R Arms and motto in scrolled panel on one side, and Union spray and oak/laurel leaf panel on the other with blank escutcheon, regulation triple bar hilt with turned down inner portion and crowned VR cypher, wire bound fishskin grip, in its brass scabbard, with leather knot. Basically GC (some wear overall, inscriptions at forte mostly worn away, minor scabbard dents) Plate 7
An 1803 pattern light company officers sabre, curved shallow fullered blade 30”, etched “Eginton”, “Warranted”, crowned GR cypher, seated Britannia, 1801-16 R Arms and trophy within panels, retaining 40% blue and gilt, regulation copper hilt (with traces of gilt), with double side bars, lower part of GR cypher, lion’s head pommel, wire bound fishskin grip, in its brass mounted leather scabbard, the locket engraved “J Eginton, Birmingham Sword Cutler and Button Maker to his Royal Highness Duke of Kent”. QGC (top section of knucklebow missing, some wear and pitting, stains, grip wire loose, scabbard leather worn)
A good scarce infantry Field officers’ 1892 pattern sword, straight fullered blade 33” by E Thurkle Soho, London, etched with flat topped crown, VR cypher within scrolled frosted panels, regulation brass (evidently never gilt) hilt incorporating crowned VR cypher, wirebound fishskin grip, in its brass scabbard. Near VGC, the blade retains most original polish (a few slight speckles, scabbard dented at tip) Plate 7
A Vic officer’s 1874 pattern State Sword of the 2nd Life Guards, straight fullered blade 36”, by Hawkes & Co London (faint), etched with Guelphic crown, regimental badge and motto, battle honours “Dettingen”, Sphinx and “Egypt”, “Peninsula” and “Waterloo”, and VR cypher within ornamental scrolls, regulation plated hilt, the guard with applied brass crowned 2d LG cypher, studs and curls, chequered pommel and backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its steel scabbard with fluted brass mounts. A Vic Bowie knife, heavy blade 8½, DE at tip, GS mounted hilt with ball finials to crosspiece, flattened chequered horn grip with escutcheon, in its GS mounted leather scabbard embossed with foliage, generally GC (patches of pitting to blade, one side of crosspiece bent, pommel missing, scabbard creased); also a hunting or sheath knife, in its leather sheath, generally GC. A fine Indian talwar, the blade inscribed with the signature of Asadulah Isfahani,late 17th/early 18th Century with 17th Century Persian curved single-edged watered blade, signed 'the work of Asadulah Isfahani' in gold within a shaped cartouche, and with a further inscription within a shaped cartouche in gold at the forte, chiselled iron hilt of characteristic form entirely encased in gold foil, decorated at the borders and in the centre with raised lines, and including knuckle-guard with stylised serpent head finial and disc pommel, in a velvet-covered wooden scabbard with gold chape 79cm; 31in blade The second inscription reads in translation: "The unrivalled master and a world of art unto himself, Asad who beat the drum of excellence in the work of his time." Asadulah Isfahani was the bladesmith of Shah Abbas the Great (1587-1628) a number of blades bearing his signature are recorded with dates ranging from AH811 (AD1408-9) to AH1223 (AD1808).
A fine Indian talwar,Early 19th century with heavy curved blade double-edged towards the point formed with a series of central slots filled with minute steel balls and decorated over its full surface with finely watered chevron pattern, russet iron hilt incorporating a large disc pommel, and decorated with gold koftgari flowers and foliage surrounding courtly figures on each side, in a velvet-covered wooden scabbard 76.2cm; 30in blade
