A .577” Volunteer Snider 3 band rifle by Reilly, 55” overall, barrel 36½” with London proofs and Enfield inspector’s mark, the breech block having “Snider Patent” mark; lock bearing crowned “VR” and “1865” over “L.A. Co” and engraved “E.M. Reilly & Co, New Oxford St, London”; walnut fullstock with brass mounts, trigger guard with eyelet securing chain and nipple protector, and numbered 10,021; with single sling swivel, original steel ramrod, muzzle plug, German silver rearsight cover stamped “Snider”, and with registration mark, and triangular socket bayonet (no scabbard), Good Working Order and Condition, the barrel retaining much original blued finish (bayonet socket lightly pitted). Accompanying this lot is a “Firearms Form 7” exempting it from requiring to be sold on a firearms certificate as it is classed as a “trophy”, dated March 1922. Plate 33
A .577/450” Mark II Martini Henry rifle, 49½” overall, barrel 33” with Birmingham proofs and government sale mark; action stamped “Martini Patent Proprietors” on the left side and on the right side “N.A. & A.Co Ltd 1878” (National Arms and Ammunition Co Ltd), broad arrow and “QC” (Queensland Constabulary?), and serial number 391; walnut fullstock, butt stamped with Enfield storekeeper’s mark, date 1889, “V/5./Man/332” (5th Volunteer Bn the Manchester Regt), and government sale mark; with sling swivels, original steel cleaning rod, triangular socket bayonet in scabbard, and later webbing sling. Good Working Order and Condition (some wear, slot cut in the barrel at breech) Plate 33
Features ornate root wood grip, carved in basket weave fashion on the outside, cast silver and chased pommel with thistles and foliage, the pierced pommel set with a very light brown citrine/stone. The 31 cm long blade, being of steel, with spear tip and cutting top edge. Blade features acid-etched engravings to both sides, in overall excellent condition, with regimental number, piper, foliage, arms etc. The scabbard of black leather, with solid silver fittings/holders for the fork & knife. The eating fork & knife (the latter maker stamped G. Noewbould) of root wood with basket weave design with white citrine stones to pommel. There may have been a regimental designation at one time to top locket, but since removed showing 4 fixing holes. Rear of scabbard retains belt loop attachment. A fine & rare piece, with exceptional engravings to both sides of blade. Metal parts show yellowing, so possibly plated silver on brass, however this has not been tested.

The good condition blade is maker & trade marked, which measures 22.2 cm and is etched with the motto “Alles für Deutschland” (All for Germany), being very good in detail. Some water staining spots, but otherwise light wear overall. Very good anodised brown finish scabbard with toned nickel furniture, retaining the leather hanger & uniform tab to suspension ring.

Good anodised brown finish scabbard, retaining the leather hanger to suspension ring. The upper nickel chape lightly scratched, dated 1933. Undine made only 3000 S.A. daggers, making this a rare maker-made dagger in very fine condition.

Sharpening to both edges, with some sharpening scratches to both faces, but clean overall. Refinished black finish scabbard, with screws missing from nickel fittings.

Features blackened solid brass knuckle section, cast in design, stamped Z to top of guard, incorporating 17 cm long, double-rivetted steel blade, with sharpened edges and DD #667 with broad arrow. Blade shows use and a little surface rust to knuckle section. Retains leather scabbard, with suspension belt, maker stamped Bonney & Clark Ltd Makers. Rarely seen, these were issued to the Z special commando units during the war and are rarely seen for sale.

Maker marked 25 cm long 2nd pattern blade, being finely double etched, with foliate, anchor and marine life design, showing toning overall and nick to left blade edge & slightly upturned blade spear point. Gilded brass scabbard retains both suspension rings, with lightning bolt design, with dent to rear.

Blade fits well into the nickel & leather scabbard, showing light wear overall, retaining suspension ring & hanger, with slightly dented ball. Scarce 1st type dagger.

Nickel winged guard with rotating brass swastika to both sides. 31 cm long maker & squadron stamped exceptionally fine blade, retaining leather washer. Blade fits perfectly into the nickel & leather scabbard, showing wear patches & small section of leather loss overall, but retaining full ringed hanger & uniform suspension clip. Apart from leather wear to scabbard, a very good piece.

Blade fits perfectly into the toned nickel-pebbled scabbard with twin suspension rings.
Cream celluloid grip, with full wire wrap, rotating large symbol & oakleaf pommel, with eagle aluminium cross guard. Very good condition Clemen & Jung of Solingen marked 26 cm long blade, retaining leather washer. Blade shows etchings to both sides, showing foliate patterns, eagle & symbol, with für langjährige treue Dienste der Generalstab (remembrance time in the General Staff) inscription. In our opinions, this may be a post-war etching. Blade fits perfectly into the toned nickel-plated, pebbled scabbard.
Nickel-plated hilt fittings show only light surface age on pommel and cross guard with excellent detail to the Red Cross emblem on the obverse langet. Black bakelite grip plates in good condition with only one small chip to the back plate. Double-sawtooth blade is in good condition, with only light age to blade. Ricasso marked, “GES. GESCHÜTZT” and retains black leather buffer pad. Dent-free, steel scabbard retains approximately 90% of the black enamel showing age scratches & crazing.

Ricasso marked, “GES. GESCHÜTZT” and retains black leather buffer pad. Dent-free, steel scabbard retains approximately 70% of the black enamel showing age scratches & crazing.
Chequered composite grips, one side showing enamel & gilt R.L.B. badge, with nickel-plated doves head pommel and fittings. Very fine condition 25 cm long blade, with buffer pad. Carl Eickhorn of Solingen marked. Retains good black enamel scabbard retaining 70% finish and remains/damaged leather frog.
Gilt-washed brass D-shaped guard, with hoof quillon, half clamshell showing deer head profile with ivory grips, with fixed brass acorns to both sides. Bullion knot ties to base of guard, showing loss of tape to top of acorn. 26 cm long, double-etched maker marked blade. Etchings are the classic hunting/forestry style, with animals, hunters, trees & floral patterns. Gilt-washed brass and leather scabbard fits the blade perfectly. This piece has been period-shortened, as was the fashion to shorten the longer blade/scabbard variety from the late 1920’s and 1930’s. Generally, very good overall.
Features toned frosted silver nickel fittings, with half clamshell featuring deer at rest. Deer horn grip with 3 inset nickel acorns. Near-mint maker marked & 1994 dated condition 41 cm long, double-etched blade, showing classic hunting/forestry style, with animals, hunters, trees & floral patterns. Leather & nickel scabbard in fine condition. Very nice presentable piece.
Steel plain backstrap, flat top pommel & ‘B’ shaped guard & crucifix langet, with ribbed, brown leather grip. 84 cm long, slightly curved blade, shows maker details for EGG 12 (most likely retailer) Solingen to spine, with hand-engraved etchings to both sides of blade, running 1/3 length of cavalrymen, zodiac signs, coats of arms, etc. Age stains along length, but generally good overall. Retains leather & metal scabbard, with single suspension ring. Generally good for age, with outside metal furniture being heavily toned overall. Length: 107 cm.
Metal stirrup hilt, with plain backstrap and wooden grip, with majority of the wire wrap present. Plain langets & quillon. Plain 79 cm long, curved slashing blade, the blade is in very good condition overall, with some very minor age spotting along quill point. Metal scabbard in good condition, with light wear, having had one of its suspension rings replaced & cleaned. Overall length 93 cm.

Fish skin grip with wire wrap. 83 cm long, slightly curved steel blade shows etchings to 3/4 length of both sides, with Volunteer Artillery motto & cannon, V.R. royal cypher & trophies of arms, etc., being very fine overall. Some areas of age staining and light wear, but generally very good. Metal service scabbard retains both suspension rings, with outside metal furniture being heavily toned overall. Overall length: 99 cm.
Gilt-finished, brass-pierced 3-branched guard, with central royal cypher, bevelled urn pommel, folding langet & floral backstrap. Fish skin grip with wire wrap, with wrapped leather portepee knot. 82 cm long, slightly curved steel blade shows etchings to 2/3 length of both sides, with crown, V.R. royal cypher & trophies of arms, etc., being very fine overall. Toned to blade, which could do with a good clean, but generally very good. Leather & gilded brass service scabbard retains both suspension rings, with full red leather & white metal hanging straps/belts. Overall length: 100 cm.
Polished gilt lion’s head pommel, with mane backstrap, worn ray skin grip with wire wrap and gilt brass guard (period-straightened) showing the fouled anchor & crown, with folding/locking langet. 77 cm slightly curved nickel blade, shows etching to both sides of fouled anchors, royal crown, etc., in good condition, with the usual pitting wear, maker-marked for Matthews & Co. of Portsea. Leather scabbard shows twin brass lockets with twin suspension rings, with light service wear to fully stitched leather body. Overall length: 94 cm.

Fish skin & full wire wrap, with buff leather knot. 96 cm long steel blade, showing polished etchings to both sides of blade, running half length, showing RHG cypher & crown, family crest & crown, unit battle honours, including Dettingen, Waterloo & Egypt 1882, spine stamped 37833 with Wilkinson Sword maker, mark just visible. Plated nickel & brass scabbard in excellent condition. Overall length: 115 cm. Comes with copied colour portrait of Viscount Ingestre & full research file, including Wilkinson Sword archive connecting the registered sword number to Viscount Ingestre. A rare sword.Viscount Ingestre, Charles Alton Chetwynd-Talbot R.V.O. was born on 8/9/1882. His father, Charles Talbot, 20th Earl of Shrewsbury, the founder of the Talbot Motor Company, bestowed the subsidiary title of Viscount Ingestre on his son. Following his commission into the British Army, Charles Jnr served with the Sussex regiment, before joining the Royal Horse Guards, where he attained the rank of Captain. In 1907 he was awarded the Royal Victorian Order (R.V.O.) by King Edward VII, following a royal visit to the family home of Alton Towers during that year - (Alton Towers is now the location of the popular British theme park of the same name). In December 1914, Viscount Ingestre contracted influenza which caused his death, at his London home, on 8/1/1915 at the age of 32. He was accorded a military funeral, which was attended by many members of the British aristocracy, before being laid to rest at the family church at Ingestre, Staffordshire.

Slight curved 78 cm long metal blade, generally good overall, maker-marked to spine. Full brown leather scabbard, retains brass chape & throat, stamped 4.M.178. Blade fits to scabbard with 1 cm length not fitting all way in. Generally good overall, being scarce to the market, being used mostly in the northern India & Afghan territories.
Features plated, nickel-pierced basket hilt, with minor plating loss, full leather inner guard, with some loss of red felt to upper portion, retaining red cotton plume to pommel. Fish skin & full wire wrap. 84 cm long straight double-edged blade, maker-marked for Samuel Bros. London, is in very fine condition, retaining very good etchings to both sides of blade, showing Edward VII royal cypher, with thistles & flora, with only a minor bend to spear point tip. The toned metal scabbard shows light wear, retaining both suspension rings. Generally, a good example. Overall length: 105 cm.
Full steel bowl guard and thatched, brown composite pistol grip with thumb recess and is fitted with its original leather washer. 90 cm long single-edged blade is in very good condition, being clean and unsharpened, with only very light service wear. The ricasso is marked EFD (Enfield Small Arms Factory) and rubbed, manufacture-dated January 1911. Enfield & 1911-stamped steel scabbard, showing light service wear with fixed hanging rings, unit stamped for 6th Dragoon Guards, one being 5th Dragoon Guards. Overall length: 113 cm.
Features a wire-bound fish skin grip, mounted onto a plain chromed back strap and pierced bowl guard, featuring the royal cypher of King George VI. The nickel finish is excellent to outer bowl, with white leather parade buffer lining and buckled knot. 89 cm slightly curved long blade, maker-marked WSC (Wilkinson Sword) & dated for June 1947. The blade is near-mint condition, with only ‘in and out’ wear visible. The service-stamped, plated nickel service scabbard is in very fine condition, retaining the lower suspension ring. A fine condition-piece. Scarce.

The 81 cm long slightly curved, piped backed blade shows excellent plated nickel finish, with maker-engraved panel in scroll ‘Eisenhauer’. Black enamelled scabbard retains its single suspension ring, with wear to enamel, mainly to lower portion. Overall length: 98 cm.
All-brass ornate backstrap, D-shaped guard, fouled anchor folding langet & lion’s head pommel. Ivorine grip with full wire wrap. The Marine waffen stamp is present to underside of guard & Ostsee markings - O.836 to top of langet. The 79 cm long slightly-curved, piped-backed blade shows very good plated nickel finish, with light age wear & use. Leather & brass scabbard retains locking lug to upper locket, being matching stamped O.836, with suspension ring posts, with leather showing limpness & splits/wear showing through at posts. Overall length: 94 cm.
