A good scarce Third Reich 1936 Model NSKK chained dagger, by H Herder, Solingen, the hilt mounts of nickel silver with "Wf" mark (Westfalen) on the crossguard, in its scabbard with nickel plated mounts, with its hanging chains, one link of which is marked "Musterschutz NSKK Korpsfuhrung". VGC (some flaking to plating on the chain links). £1500-2000
A scarce Third Reich German Rifle Association sidearm, blade 15½" etched overall with scrolls, hunting dog and stag, crossed rifles and target etc, by E&F Horster, Solingen, the hilt having ribbed cream plastic grip with crossed rifles emblem and nickel plated mounts including shell guard with enamelled Shooting Association badge, in its leather scabbard with nickel plated mounts, patent leather frog, and dress knot. A Victorian Rifle Regiment pattern sword marked to the Royal Horse Artillery, blade 32½" etched with crowned "VR", panels of scrolls, lightning bolts, "Royal Horse Artillery", and separate scroll with owner's name "Colonel W. Brereton, CB & KH", with regulation pattern Rifle Regiment steel hilt with sharkskin grip. GC (some wear and dark patina overall, no scabbard).Note: William Brereton had a most distinguished military career: He was commissioned 2nd Lt (1805), promoted 1st Lt (1806). His Peninsular War service included the defence of Cadiz, Siege of San Sebastian, Barossa, (wounded), Vittoria, Orthes, Toulouse. With D Troop Royal Horse Artillery he was present at Quatre Bras and Waterloo (severely wounded). Saw service in the China campaign attacking Canton. Promoted Colonel 1851, served aboard HMS Britannia at Sevastopol supervising the rocket batteries during the first bombardment of Sevastopol (December 1854). Created KH (1837), CB (1838), KCB (1861), died 1864.£250-350
