Red stain to flower to neck of robe faded. - Fisherman: Left hand missing and rod broken in two. No other damage noted.

Lot 1134

An early 19th century police hangar (sword), with shagreen grip and brass mounted scabbard inscribed "44". Overall length 75 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The leather scabbard appears to be in good order. The brass mount to the base of the scabbard has a small fingernail size dent to the tip, otherwise, other than being polished, the metalwork is in good order. The shagreen grip is in good order albeit very slightly faded. The stepped pommel terminates in what appears to be a composition blob. The scabbard is numbered 44. It has a single solid blade, the blade unmarked and with no stamps. There are a few small rust spots on the blade but nothing in our opinion that would be too detrimental.

Lot 1209

Major General Sir John Ponsonby KCB CMG DSO (1866-1952), Mameluke sword, the blade etched "John Ponsonby" and with service details from the Guards Brigade 1915 through to Madras District India 1922, with scabbard. Blade Serial No. 03476, length 84 cm. NOTE - Major General Sir John Ponsonby (1866-1952) was a British Army Officer who commanded the 5th Division during World War One. He was commissioned into the Coldstream Guards in 1888, served in Uganda in 1898 and was seconded for service in The Second Boer War in South Africa in 1902. After the war he became General Officer commanding the Madras District of India. He retired in 1928. He lived at Haile Hall near Beckermet (see illustration).

Lot 1210

Arthur Augustus William Harry Ponsonby 1st Baron Ponsonby of Shulbrede (1871-1946) sabre, with Victoria crest to handguard, the blade etched "Arthur Ponsonby", with scabbard. Blade length 80 cm. NOTE - Arthur Ponsonby 1st Baron Ponsonby of Shulbrede (1871-1946) was a British politician, writer and social activist. He was Private Secretary to Queen Victoria (see illustration).

Lot 1313

A French heavy cavalry troopers sword, early 19th century, with spear point blade cut with twin broad fullers on each face, signed on back edge "M. Facture Imp. le du Klingenthal November 1811", the ricasso with three inspection marks and with brass three bar guard, the grip leather covered and wire bound, with steal scabbard with two suspension rings, the guard and scabbard each numbered "495". The blade 95.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The scabbard is uniformly rusted throughout but intact and solid. The suspension rings although rusty are good. The upper band holding the suspension ring is indistinctly stamped with what appears to be “450”. The blade has a skin of grease applied to it. The hilt has verdigris on it. The hilt is intact and is stamped “94”. The leather grip and bound wire appear to be in good order although the leather is worn and faded in places, though not excessively.

Lot 1457

A Victorian spelter figure, male soldier with horn. Height 76 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The horn, although still attached, is broken in two and requires attention. It has been painted at some stage in its life and is not the original patination. There is a split to the sword scabbard approximately 4 cm from the tip. Other than the faults mentioned the remainder appears to be sound and in good decorative order.

Lot 1467

A horn and malacca double edged sword stick, late 19th century, the horn handle inset with five ivory dominoes (one missing) and with a gilt metal pressed ferrule, the malacca shaft housing a 61.5 cm blade with engraved inscription "No Me Envaines Sin Honor" and verso "No Me Saques Sin Razon" (draw me not without reason, sheath me not without honour) and with further engraved scrolls. Overall length 85 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The locking mechanism does work but is rather tight. The horn handle has been originally set with six dominoes however a domino which should sit on the crook of the handle is now missing. Each domino has a small chip or a hairline stress crack. The embossed gilt metal collar has lost its gilding. The double edge blade appears to be in a nice condition with a small amount of tarnishing and a very minimal rust spot (singular). The Malacca scabbard has a natural colour to the upper 50% and a dark stained colour to the lower 50%. It has a few long splits measuring approximately 18 cm, 17.5 cm and 20 cm and a further one of 18 cm issuing from the ferule upwards. There is also a very fine 3 cm hairline crack to the top of the scabbard.
